Headhunting has been part of Igbo customs since time immemorial. They do this in different occasions including rites of passage to age grade meetings. The Igbos call this act Ogbu Ishi. This customs is prevalent in the Ngwa and Ohafia Area. I supposed this is the area Kanu comes from. It is no novelty should Kanu command or ask for this.
They also practice this tradition to bury kings or known people in Igboland.
Where I come from we appoint able men to escort women to farms at a certain time of the year when the Igbos would be around for this. We call them Odo Ohia.
