He should also compare the bills and tax!

Does he know his entire annual salary in Nigeria is the mortgage or rent for what you can call home in the UK?

How many people live in homes in the UK? Many reside in Kennels called homes. Small things we can’t call BQ in Nigeria.

Does he know price of energy and taxes that follow after those numbers he quoted?

I am not saying Nigeria is better than the UK, but the true reality of the difference is not much.

Do you know the cost of living same life you were living in Nigeria under that low salary, with that of the UK?

Many can’t even live that life. It’s a party after party champagne campaign in Nigeria with the lowest we earn. We build houses to taste and own outrightly. We not chased by banks.
Stop deceiving yourself bro. This your narrative has made me question people I knew that moved abroad.
You earn enough over there to cater for your expenses.
It's common sense! That's why Japa is a thing.

A Nigerian medical doctor has stirred serious buzz online after comparing his earnings in Nigeria to what he now earns in the United Kingdom.

According to the doctor, identified as Dr. Tolu, he spent 7 years working in Nigeria without ever earning up to ₦185,000 monthly, even while juggling multiple jobs.

He revealed that after finishing medical school, he moved back in with his parents and lived with them till he was almost 30 years old — without owning a car.

However, after saving up to write the required exams and moving to the UK, his 6-month salary abroad reportedly surpassed his entire 7-year earnings in Nigeria.

Here’s what he wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

https://x.com/tolubinutu/status/1979021061573206219?t=Ug1tTovARqx5rkcb3tBEdQ&s=19

This revelation has sparked discussions about the state of healthcare salaries in Nigeria, brain drain, and why many Nigerian professionals are relocating abroad for better pay and work conditions.

Is the UK really that much better, or is it just hype?
It would be better to know what year did he start the work and counting 7 years up......

This information is incomplete...

Yes they don't. But still take any slight opportunity they see to Japa.

When I say minimum wage, I'm using that as a point of reference that we earn poorly in this country.

They always think the grass is greener elsewhere.

I would predict that in 5 years time, many doctors would leave UK for Nigeria, as their experience would not be encouraging.

Thats not quite true though. Even junior doctors earn between 3 to 4k pounds per month. Nurses that work private and not under NHS earn 22 pounds per hour and work 12 hours a day for 4 days a week. Believe it or not, the doctor is actually right. In 5 months, I earned my 11 years gratuity payment. I'm not even a doctor. I am talking about what I had left after rent, bills, tax. Yes, things may be quite expensive in london, same way it is lagos, in New York. Those are highly populated cities. Rent will be high. Folks fail to realize though that the UK is 4 countries in 1. England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Expenses vary in these countries. Rent for a 1 bedroom flat in London will get you a 3 bedroom flat in many other parts with council tax and bills.

That's not the issue here

It is the way he said it that's the problem. You'd have reached the conclusion he was receiving much less.

Ogbeni close your dirty mouth and call a spade by its name. How can a medical doctor be earning 185k a month? Even if his tax bills are high at least he is enjoying what he paying for. Is the price of energy cheap here, I'm paying 209.50 for a unit on band A yet I've spent 175k fueling my generator. I once visited a general Hospital, and I saw people sleeping outside on tents, no power. Only 1 doctor attending to over 18 patients in a ward. Folks like you are taking this country backward due to your blinded support.
Must you abuse him to make your own point? especially he was not replying to your comment. It say a lot about you. 😔

Of you averagely doing well in Nigeria, can you find same life I the UK?

How many Nigerians have their kids in private schools?

How many stay in highbrow area and live in conducive apartments like they did in Nigeria?

How many have work-life balance like they do in Nigeria?

You will only appreciate that side of the world when you were never averagely balling in the Nigeria.

What you call doing well over there is still poverty and mental stress for some of us.

keep living in delusion. And keep deceiving yourself, you hear. After he spends that money on all his taxes and house rent, his take-home is still far bigger than your entire yearly gross pay in Nigeria. So, where is your analogy?

That’s your circle in Nigeria. It’s not generic. Fall into circle and corporate professionals in top multinationals and see what plays.

Don’t make it sound like everyone feeds well in the UK or can afford a balanced diet. It’s not all rosy for everyone there as it happens in Nigeria.

His highest total earnings in Nigeria was ₦185K

₦185K = £100

I'm sure any doctor in the UK can easily save £200 monthly AFTER all expenses. That's the point of migration, most migrants can save and remit MORE NAIRA than they could EARN in Nigeria.

Every country obviously has some level of crime but it's about crime rate, likelihood.
As you are likely aware there is crime data on absolutely every street in the UK, the likelihood of being a crime victim ( never mind violent crime)is much lower in UK than in Nigeria. There is also a higher probability of getting justice in UK.
How many crimes are dealt with in Nigeria to victims' satisfaction or at all?
