Interesting thread. Nigerians do have fascinating names. With Ijaw names, I think you'll find it's the retention of names in literal English form that is fascinating. Others have similar names but in their native tongue

For example Goodluck would roughly translate to something like orire in Yoruba language prompting Yorubas who wish to associate good luck with their children to name them Bibire or Rire.

A name of GodsPromise would be IleriOluwa in Yoruba

Igbo is Another tribe in nigeria that abandon their tribal names and go for English names

For one family in my area in Anambra
Their surname is Micheal, so you can see Agnes Micheal, John Micheal etc.

Another factor is using living dad's name as surname. I thought that surname should be ancestry name. Now people answer Chisom as a surname. Chisom might be someone not up to 25years just because he born pikin and he will said he doesn't want his name to lose.

I'm tired of lack of imagination, the throwing of our culture like it's disgusting is what I don't like. I've never come across other African countries mock their names or Language.
