Police Open Fire To Disperse #FreeNnamdiKanu Protesters In Abuja (Video) by Metrix147(op): 9:12am On Oct 20, 2025
Tension erupted in Abuja on Monday morning, October 20, 2025, as security operatives reportedly opened fire to disperse protesters demanding the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, ABN TV reports.

Eyewitnesses said the protesters, led by human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, and Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the younger brother of the IPOB leader, had gathered peacefully in front of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards with the inscription “Free Nnamdi Kanu Now.”

However, the peaceful demonstration quickly turned chaotic when security operatives stormed the area and allegedly began shooting sporadically into the air to disperse the crowd.

According to reports, the situation caused panic among passersby and guests within the vicinity of the hotel, as people scampered for safety amid the gunfire.

As of the time of filing this report, it remains unclear whether anyone sustained injuries or lost their life during the incident.

The protest, tagged #FreeNnamdiKanu, was part of ongoing nationwide demonstrations calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in detention despite several court rulings ordering his freedom.

Its a crazy country... When its time the opposition will follow the same pathway APC followed

1. Campaign
2. Hire foreign militia from another country
3. Threaten the leading government with baboon and dog theory
4. Deploy high level propaganda machinery
5. Meet with foreign politicians (U.S Republicans)
6. Lobby the US government to demonize the leading government.
7. Boom... You win

NB: The steps above are for theoretical conversation only ..

The police are being too lenient with these people trying to cause chaos in Nigeria. They should thank God that Tinubu is the President and not Wike or Fayose or some of us with anger issues.

Isn't It Too Early To Start Shooting Tear Gas On Peaceful Protesters ?

Why Can We Not Utilize Online Quizzes And Debates As Safer Tools To Deliberate On Societal Public Issues Like This ?

I've Seen People Die On Protest Grounds During My First EndSars Peaceful Protest In Nigeria.

Since Then, I'll Not Even Advise Anyone To Peacefully Protest On Issues That May Never Be Resolved After They Must Have Lost Their Lives During The Protests!

Lol. While they shoot tear gas at this scanty protesters in a show of force, terrorists are forming new groups in various parts of the north, with intentions of milking the lucrative business of kidnapping, banditry and territorial expansion.
This path of behaving like the ostrich that tries to hide its head, while it's entire body is in the open, would reach an end point, in a matter of time.

They should have sat on the floor immediately police started shooting. But peaceful protest should be peaceful, the police is expected to ensure it remains peaceful not the other way round. I'm beginning to read another meaning to peaceful protest, abi I no go school again ni?

If Goodluck Jonathan had authorised shooting when Tinubu led a protest against him, I wonder where Tinubu would have been today.

They can't take what they've dished out to others.
