How is the chemotherapy done?

And is it the only treatment for cancer?
Depending on the staging of the cancer you may not need chemo. If cancer is caught early i.e. stage 1 or very early stage 2 and depending on its location, a surgical removal of the cancer may be all you need.

If the cancer is on an organ like the liver which can not be easily operated on then you may need chemo to hopefully totally kill the cancer cells or to reduce the size so the organ can be safely operated on.

In my case, after a successful resection of my bowel, chemo was suggested to try to kill and cancerous cells that may already be in my blood stream/system.

Steve Jobs refused chemo. He didnt survive. Although there is no guarantee that he would have survived with chemo.

My dad died from cancer and at the time I swore to myself that even if I had cancer I'd never take chemo because I wrongly assumed it was the chemo that dried him up and killed him. Fast forward 10 years later I am diagnosed with stage 3 CRC. I hd a successful bowel (sigmoid) resection but the cancer was found in 3 of 11 nodes. My ever so wonderful consultant surgeon recommended chemo. I read and investigated and decided to have it because even though there was nothing showing up on the scans, I decided to take it as a precaution if there were still cancerous cells lurking inside my body.

I finished chemo 5 months ago and after 2 follows ups and a colonoscopy I am still NED. I doubt that all the surgeons and wonderful medical professionals im the world are part of a global conspiracy to push chemo to kill the people. As it stands it is currently the most effective treatment for cancer
Steve jobs deliberately caused his own cancer and didn't try to solve the root cause even though he refused chemo ...Steve Jobs fruitarian lifestyle gave him cancer , during his illness he kept fruiting...

Good thing your NED now , you need to completely change your diet or lifestyle if not there would be a remission in 18 months .

Your friend have ground to sue that hospital and whoever was responsible for not doing their jobs.

The evidence is all there for your friend to use. Encourage them to sue, let them pay for their negligence.
Her younger sister is a lawyer and she told me that the sister was making arrangements to file at the Federal High Court since the hospital is a federal establishment. She also added that the lady was experiencing delays because since both institutions are federal, the court officials were being difficult because they want to protect their colleagues.

On her own the lady just wants to move on because suing will not bring her father back (according to her), but her sister is being insistent. Do you know just before his death he was being administered large doses morphine every four hours? This means they were just managing him and waiting for death.

Terrible and sad story

She is just a lier looking for publicity. Why not mention the type of cancer she was diagnosed of and the investigation done. Which hospital will start chemotherapy for a cancer without histology confirmation which is the gold standard of diagnosis of all cancers.
To stage the cancer involves alot . MRI,CT and the rest. So you tell me all this we're wrong?

You'll think this happens in movies only. My Daughter was wrongfully diagnosed with HIV. I had to take her to 2 separate hospital, that voided the earlier diagnosis. Ordinary Malaria ooo
There is what e call false positive. Just being positive with rapid test doesn't always mean you have hiv. Who relies on rapid kit test to diagnose HIV. you will always need a PCR test to confirm HIv if you test positive from the lab. It's you that prematurely conclude ahe gad HIV when u haven't Don a confirmatory .

An total idi@t. Joking with cancer. If you have been through the pains of cancer, the treatment and the mental stress of its aftermath you wont joke about this.

And the courts encourage early/out of court settlement. If this was a real case all the hospital would have to donis produce this video to the judge and her case will be thrown out for refusal to even consider an out of court settlement. The court should be a last resort.
Out of court settlement is not a must. It's the plaintiff that determines that

Let's first take a moment to extend empathy to the patient. She is suffering.

There is a number of pieces of information required here to obtain clarity on the situation.

Oncology is a complicated field of medicine and often provokes debate amongst physicians. This is for a diverse range of reasons - affordability of treatment, availability of investigation, availability of treatment, ability to adequately monitor the patient, to name but a few.

On a systemic level, yes, the Nigerian health system is struggling and the discrepancies between public and private are experienced every day but all relevant stakeholders, the ultimate stakeholder being the patient and their loved ones. The majority of doctors in Nigeria work very hard to do their best for their patients but they are working in hard circumstances, often improvising on a guideline to meet the needs of the patient given some of the issues outlined above.

Some of the above comments suggest obtaining 2nd opinions and this seems like good advice, pending affordability, time availability, and simply knowing where to go alongside the relative opportunity cost of not going... hard decisions to make.

Let's start with listening to empathise. An online corroboration tool is available at Koyo: https://koyohealthtechnigeria.com/

However, in the meantime, do seek second opinions, do ask questions of your doctors - the best doctors should be happy to have their plans questioned and stress-tested.

Let's get the test we can together from a struggling health system and hope this lady gets the clarity she needs on her situation

I understand your skepticism, but misdiagnoses do happen more often than people think. There are many documented cases where patients were wrongly told they had serious illnesses like cancer due to lab or diagnostic errors. Unless there’s clear evidence proving this particular story is false, it’s fair to keep an open mind rather than dismiss it outright.

Absolutely. Especially if the terms proposed are not to her satisfaction. In this video she clearly stated that she refused to enter into any dispute resolution with the hospital.

What is she going to ask the court for? Money. Why cant she ask the hospital for this directly and if they refuse then you can sue. Every civil claim should start with a letter before claim stating your demands and if not met or rebuffed then proceed to litigation.

Be glad you are cancer free and don't drag this thing further if it's not another of you Nigerian people's extreme content hustle angry

Accept their plea and settle out of court

If Nigerian private hospitals start employing consultants and experienced surgeons like you all demand, I dont think 90% of Nigerians will be able to afford healthcare treatments in any private hospital which are closing the lapses government owned hospitals left in Nigeria.
Move on and be thankful?

So easy for you,do you know what it means to be infused with the poison called cancer Chemotherapy drugs?

She's forever at risk of increased cancer risk, early menopause and infertility.

But whatever, she should forgive and move on.

Our medical system is in a mess no doubt

But this Lady should have confirmed the Cancer diagnosis from 2 or 3 other hospitals before being subjected to cancer treatment...

If Hospital A tells you that you have Cancer or HIV, tell them thank you.

Then go and confirm from Hospital B and C just to clear your doubts...

Cancer diagnosis is not Malaria 🦟 🦟 🦟 diagnosis that you can take from one source lightly...

Go to other places and clear your doubts before starting any treatment..

Nigeria not only happened to her, She happened to Nigeria.

Only a few sectors in Nigeria are not like this.

The outcome of fake certificates, exam malpractice, career mismatches, nepotism...
I witnessed this first hand at UI Med School back in the day and 20% of my class used to cheat to pass exams and even a classmate whose dad was a prof of Medicine used to see MB exam questions before the exam date and he would then circulate same between his close associates and they will all score 100% in Med school exams.

This made me to take anything a doctor tells me with a pinch of salt regardless of the doctors nationality.

I remember a few years ago when the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in the UK (the UK's most senior government advisor on matters relating to health) told all UK Doctors not to rush to cut off a woman's breasts even if she has breast cancer and not to rush her into chemotherapy either but to give her the option of doing NOTHING because from his years of medical practice, he had come to realize that some women can fight breast cancer naturally into their 80's with no treatment whatsoever.

Whether you have cancer or not, stay away from radiation therapies. They are worse than cancer, go on a natural vegan keto diet, good sleep, endurance exercises, less time with phones and electronic devices especially at night. And you stand a better chance and less suffering and pain.

Sorry for my late reply.

I really appreciate your post.
epainos:
Teaching Hospitals are where the fathers and mothers of medicine work, so that should be your first target. The chances are high that doctors, nurses and matrons working there have access to smart and good doctors that are even not working in teachings hospitals anymore, in private practice, work in both (many combine both) or are even ar3 based abroad. That is where research is done.

General hospital are the next in hierarchy. Good doctors may be there also, but you must have a personal relationship with the person so you can be able to get introduced to experts in different field. Don't just visit a new doctor that you don't have a personal relationship with except if the case is an emergency and you need a fast relief.

You can get a very good family doctor in both places, but that doctor will be your gateway to unlocking the best medical care in Nigeria. Just that knowing a good doctor who works or has previously worked in a teaching hospital is a bonus which makes it easy to navigate.

But that surgical removal of the cancer, does it mean cutting of the breast?

And the way you explained the chemotherapy, i think i will prefer it.
