She was charged with murder, not manslaughter or whatever. That means authority knew that she locked that girl in the car for that purpose. We will know her motive with time.

yes temperature can be 102 degrees in Texas in the peak of summer. Summer just ended a couple of weeks ago. The temperature is cooling off now.

“ GALENA PARK, Texas -- A mother was charged with felony murder after her 9-year-old daughter was left in a hot car in July in Texas. She was arrested on Friday, according to law enforcement.

Court documents said 36-year-old Gbemisola Akayinode admitted to law enforcement that she left her child in her car while she went to work in Galena Park, Texas. It happened in the gated employee parking lot of USG, a large manufacturer of industrial and building products.

The mother said she lowered the back windows halfway and left her daughter with food, a fan, water and ice cubes, and gave her melatonin to help her sleep.

Court records showed that Akayinode told investigators she stayed inside the office and did not check on her daughter until after her eight-hour shift was over, because she was too busy.

When she left work, she found the child unresponsive and screamed for help. Her daughter was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

According to court documents, the medical examiner's office found the young girl's body temperature was 108 degrees. They said her cause of death was hyperthermia.

Court documents revealed Akayinode admitted it wasn't the first time she left her daughter alone in the car while she went to work. According to court documents, she did it the day before and admitted to a total of about four times.

She claimed she couldn't pay for day care until she received her paycheck. However, court documents said a coworker claimed he was helping her with money because he knew she was struggling to make ends meet.

Investigators asked Akayinode if she had checked the weather or if she knew how hot it was going to be outside. According to court documents, she said she didn't and that it slipped her mind.

It definitely is. Most people can and do get away with it, depending on how long and the time of day, and if nothing happens to the child and the authorities don't get involved. If it's to run to the store for 30-minutes to one or two hours during the day, then that's fine, but if it's longer (be it during the day or night), then that's a no-no. It's an even bigger no-no to leave them in the house or car alone while you go to work for 8, 10 or 12-hours. There could be an emergency of some sort and they might not know how to respond. Of course, they probably know how to dial 911 and most kids do (unfortunately this child didn't or I'm assuming she didn't have a phone and many 9-year olds don't) and when the Police show up you're going to have to explain why you left that child alone and for that long. There're states and provinces where it's illegal to leave a child under 10 or 12 unsupervised/alone at home or in a vehicle, so it's not about doing what you want because they're your child. Sane countries have child protection laws/acts to make sure kids are kept safe and parents like this woman don't abuse their power, endangering the child's life.

If she were in Nigeria, while she had to work, she would have kept her daughter with neighbours, her mum, family members, church members, etc.
But in America, no friends. She decided to do it all by herself but made a mistake the wrong way.

We are talking Fahrenheit here, not Celsius. Texas gets into the 100’s. Even cooler areas get into the 100’s when there is a heatwave.
Also the little girl wasnt at home. She was sitting in a car in the parking lot of her mom’s job. Some of those parking lots are huge and not safe for a 9 year old to wonder around all day. She probably admonished to stay in the car. Also the heat in the parking lot is only marginally better than the heat in the car. Leaving the car and airconditioner running or going into a rest area at her moms job (which she probably wasn’t allowed to) were the options available to the little girl

Bro I know the woman very well we live on the same street, I was one of the people that went to Harris County jail to see her. She couldn't afford to pay for a baby sitter. She actually left her engine running with the air conditioner on unfortunately the air conditioner developed a fault and stopped working while the engine was still running.
Her mistakes- She could talk to someone or some baby sitters they will take child while she pays later.
She can take the child to fire Station, there are provisions for that.
So she made a big mistake, she didn't even tell any of us on the street. Regardless she is not a wicked woman, she didn't plan killing her child it was just one unforseen circumstance with the car air-conditioning system. Regardless she was wrong!

The reality in America is average wages cannot cover daycare cost. I have a 6 years old daughter and before and after care cost $300 a week. Factor your rent and other bills, its a though world indeed. The story is sad for all involved for real.

Oga or Madam abeg please this story is beginning to have different versions, which is which did she have the engine running with the AC on or did she as claimed by ABC have the windows down half way because it doesn’t make sense to have the engine running with AC on and windows open…a thief can easily get into the car and steal it with her kid in it. Why would anyone have the windows half way down if the AC is on and engine running?
