“There’s Nothing Outside” – Nigerian Divorcee Advises Women to Stay in Their Marriages Despite Challenges

A Nigerian woman who recently went through a divorce has caused a stir on social media after sharing her strong opinion on marriage, urging women to stay committed to their partners despite challenges — unless their safety is at risk due to physical violence.

In a viral TikTok video, the woman, identified by her handle @rhoda2369, spoke candidly about her painful marital journey and the lessons she learned along the way. Her message, though controversial, has generated massive engagement, sparking debates about love, loyalty, and survival in modern relationships. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Divorcee Urges Women to Stay Committedl

In her heartfelt video, Rhoda advised women not to give up easily on their relationships or marriages, noting that the world outside is often harsher than imagined.

“Stay put in your marriage. Stay put with your fiancé. Stay put with your boyfriend — whatever it is you have going on,” she said.
“It’s not rosy out there. The only time I advise you to leave is when there’s physical abuse or violence.”

Her statement immediately drew attention across TikTok and other platforms, with viewers divided between those praising her honesty and others accusing her of encouraging women to endure toxic relationships.

Lessons from Her Own Painful Experience

Rhoda shared a glimpse into her past marriage, describing moments that tested her patience and emotional strength. She revealed that her husband had allegedly threatened her during a disagreement, saying he would divorce her and take her money and property.

According to her, this difficult chapter opened her eyes to the realities of marriage and human behavior.

“My husband dey follow another lady dey talk say him go divorce me.
He say him go collect all my property, divorce me and take him child,” she recounted in Pidgin English.

Despite her experience, Rhoda clarified that her message was not to glorify suffering or submission but to encourage reflection before making life-altering decisions. She noted that the emotional and financial struggles that follow divorce can be overwhelming — especially for women with children.

“It’s Not Rosy Out There” – Rhoda Warns

Expanding on her point, the divorcee explained that many people underestimate how difficult single life can be after leaving a long-term relationship or marriage.

She stated that loneliness, financial pressure, and emotional trauma often await those who leave without careful planning or genuine reason.

“It’s not easy outside. Many people think they’ll find peace after leaving, but sometimes it gets worse. Think well before walking away,” she advised.

Her words echoed the sentiments of many older women who have shared similar experiences, warning younger couples not to be swayed by social media portrayals of freedom or luxury after divorce.

Handling Rough Times in Marriage

Rhoda emphasized that no relationship is perfect, urging couples to communicate openly and seek help instead of rushing into separation.

She advised both men and women to manage disagreements with maturity, avoid third-party interference, and focus on rebuilding trust.

“Every marriage gets rough sometimes. It’s not every argument that should end in breakup or divorce,” she said.

However, she made it clear that physical violence is a deal-breaker, stressing that no one should endure abuse in the name of endurance or religion.

“If your partner beats you, that’s not love. Leave for your safety. But if it’s just misunderstanding or pride, work on it together,” she concluded.

Mixed Reactions on Social Media

Rhoda’s video has sparked heated debate online. While many commended her courage and practical advice, others criticized her stance as outdated and potentially harmful.

One TikTok user commented:

“She’s speaking facts. Marriage is not easy, but leaving isn’t always the solution.”

Another user disagreed, saying:

“This kind of advice keeps women in miserable marriages. Emotional abuse counts too.”

Regardless of the differing opinions, Rhoda’s message has opened an important conversation about modern marriage expectations, emotional endurance, and the true cost of divorce in Nigerian society.

Although a couple of marriages have failed, the failure rate in Nigeria remains insignificant. Why we think that many marriages are failing is that negative news easily gets media attention.

The white man's definition of marriage will never work, it didn't work in their countries so how will it work here.
Any organization where there's no clear defined leadership will only amount to confusion.

Our ancestors knew this for centuries but the white man came with the equality nonsense in marriages. Now neither the man nor the woman understand their roles in marriages

This is why as a woman you must be mindful of who you'll marry. Don't just marry a man because he's financially OK. Rather marry someone you're compatible with.

Truth is you can find someone who is financially comfortable and compatible with you.

Never be in a hurry to settle down, cos if you marry wrongly and the unending crisis makes you leave your home, it's worse outside. A lot of women left their husbands to become a side chick to other women's husbands.

Some girls would say that they don't care about compartibality as long as he's rich it would work out. Look at Regina today, did it workout? Not even Ned's money could make her stay.

Don’t listen to her.
Divorce your husband if he’s not satisfying you.
Don’t tolerate disrespect from any man. Better men are outside please don’t settle for less.
You deserve better.

If you can't do that, don't marry

She’s speaking from experience, and that’s valid.
But not everyone’s “outside” is the same. Some people actually found healing and peace after leaving, others didn’t.
Wisdom is knowing when to stay and when to walk away.

Hopeless republic will say marriage nah scam

Meet partners in which two of you, love and understand each other and see how marriage is beautiful.

Many of them would capitalise on errors in marriage, what about errors u are seeing in your, education, career, or other human endeavour, outside marriage, did you abandon school, job etc because of that?

Outside marriage, you will free, but leaving a disjointed life as an adult, is even worse for women, different rods would only be visiting and quickly disappear like tin air.

Many woman think when they leave marriage the man suffer. But the answers is NO.

When you leave a responsible man in marriage he finds peace. The burdens, the cross, the pains, the obligations of a man in a marriage is too wide to look down on them biko.

A responsible man, who always find ways for his family irrespective of his wealth should be respected.

But gen Z wives mentally is so poor, thinking out there is full of beds of roses 😂

I guess you are advocating for boss- servant of a marriage. No where in the world that man is not headship of family, the word equality doesn't mean no clear headship, but trying to say you are helpmates in progress

Most ladies know this. But they are either too ashamed, too proud or too immature to admit it. No lady was created to live a single life. Infact, it is a curse to do so.
Life is best lived with someone by your side. But tearing apart because of a misunderstanding is not always the answer. Only very few, probably 0.01%, are lucky enough to find fulfillment after a divorce or separation. But the rest usually live in regret, most especially when they find out that the reason for the separation was primarily due to their emotional immaturity.
