After the matter had been formally stepped down, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan attempted to revisit the abortion clause, insisting she should be allowed to speak since the issue directly affects women. However, Senator Adams Oshiomhole quickly objected, raising a point of order. He argued that parliamentary rules forbid reopening discussions on a matter that has already been concluded, stressing that allowing one senator to speak would mean reopening the floor for everyone.

In his ruling, Senate President Godswill Akpabio upheld Oshiomhole’s objection, referencing Senate Rule 52(6). He maintained that since the Senate had already taken a position to step down the matter, it would be out of order to revisit it.

It is called Nigerias Senate and NOT Akpabios Senate..
Everyone of them was elected as a Senator. They are equals. That Akpabio was made the Senate President, is not enough reason for him to be acting like a School Principal.

Free that woman and allow her do the work her constituency elected her to do..

you can’t engage women in verbal exchanges,you can’t engage women in physical exchanges but when it comes to financial exchanges you can engage women…things are fast changing from that narrative.successful women are living up to responsibilities and not depending on women privileges.
As a woman she contested election with men and she won,she can’t get to the senate and wants orders ruled out for her cos she is a woman. One problem with u women is that u always wanna have ur way because u are a woman , thereby causing chaos ... I don't know why it's difficult for u women to respect authority .... u all always wanna break rules because u are women....its becoming clearer that people like Natasha is killing the future opportunities for women.... there are over 100 male senators , na only Natasha de create wahala all the time and u expect women to be given more seats .... u all will end up turning them senate to a market place...this character that women portray is the reason women always fight each other in public

By the way Akpabio was trying to avoid confrontation and controversy and that is why he allowed her talk after the matter had been referred to a committee even though he knew she was breaking the rules.

It was oshiomole who raised the point of order to defend the rules and he was right to do so.

The rule is the rule and should be followed at all times.

It's clear on this one Natasha was wrong!

That ‘ayes’ and ‘nays’ you’re mocking is literally how lawmakers vote across the world, from the UK Parliament in Westminster to US Congress in Washington etc and they’ve been doing it for centuries. It’s called a voice vote (I know the only voicenote that you know is the one on your WhatsApp). Maybe learn the process before labeling it ‘agbero.

Everything isn’t ‘typical African man behaviour.’ The Senate runs by rules, not sympathy. If you don’t understand parliamentary order, it’s easy to mistake procedure for bias.

Moreover, she said she wanted to speak because she’s a woman and the topic was abortion. That’s emotional blackmail, not debate. The Senate isn’t a gender rally, it’s a legislative body. You speak because you have something substantial to contribute, not just because of gender.
