Jennyclay:Another clear reasons why we should fix our own country, UK is a taxpaying country with no much resources even the US have little or more resources, meanwhile Nigeria is blessed with varieties of resources but plagued with bad leadership, which some of the citizens participated in bringing them into office via voting, let’s take for instance we have the right thinking leader who have vision of building the country? We won’t be running abroad |

Instead of putting all hands on deck to fix our African countries, we all are busy leaving our African countries in the hands of worst among us to rule Africa. Is it till they start chasing you guys with cane before you'd know that these people do not want you anymore ij thier countries?? |

nairalanda1:The country needs more than anything investors in the steel sector to tap the iron ore in the country but the focus is on religious pilgrimage and etc. To gain an edge in any industry the entrepreneurs there need government help. The government for now prefers to tariff imports than to support local production |

SmartPolician:Okay, we split Nigeria we will end up with at least 4 mini Nigerias, or even as many as 13 mini nigerias...because the problem is most of you guys idea of development is that we sell resources, share the money and import. Also, many of those countries that come out of nigeria will need money (and splitting nigeria does not mean the end of your IMF obligations re debt)...and it will come from tax. And most of you don't like taxes....palava 2 Low money means you won't have the means to fight insecurity, provide jobs etc...palava 3. That's why we are underdeveloped in the first place. That's why Nigeria cannot work, nor can the countries that come out it too work. Most Nigerians think that the world owes them a living. Your state wants to charge tax, you cry oppressor, your local disco wants to charge cost reflective tarrif, you cry oppressor. You want free stuff, and then you wonder why the debt is balloning. You support the corrupt, and wonder why leaders no dey rule us well. IN short, you go cry we are too poor. Well, country made of people that are too poor to pay market tarrif for power, tolls for roads, income tax, higher tax to gdp , set up industrial development....etc....and want someone to share money to them, are broke countries. That is why nigeria is not working. But I think you want tribal related anarchy , so enjoy. |

SmartPolician:UK is xenophobia. They cannot manage their aging population, the citizens don't want to work in the care industry, yet they hate on outsiders who seek to plug the gap. |

LordIsaac:While Nigeria is a great place to be, I can't but hate the spate of killings in the North or the insecurity in the East. These and more makes these countries threatening African migrants with stringent requirements appealing to many of us. Just today, I came across the sad news of what's happening in the Jos. If these people are given an opportunity to travel out, they would jump on it regardless that it's a strange land. |

Jennyclay:What did they steal from Nigeria? Nigeria has been independent for over 65 years, blessed with oil, gold, arable land and a young population, yet this man continues to blame the White man. Nigeria need to evolve, stop asking for help and blaming others, it will get us nowhere. A Nigerian, Dangote, built the biggest refinery in black Africa using loans from the UK, yet the same Nigerians are trying to destroy his business. |

nairalanda1:Zz You don't need anything more than visionary leadership that is aggressive about changing the nation. When Japan started they had only rice to export in the nineteenth century. The government took a portion of the rice from farmers as tax and auctioned it in the markets for revenue amongst other taxes and the money realized was used to help their entrepreneurs create the foundation of the economy they have today. Government would set up factories and then later privatize it. Any nation can do it |

This is a dangerous but may be necessary measure the UK is using, and it may hurt them more. First, they are even generous to still give graduate visa 18 mths which is sufficient for any masters degree owner to look for a job. But the truth is that, 99.99999% of graduates do not get the kind of jobs that befit a master degree owner. They end up still going for care jobs. Whereas the care job has it own special visa which Nigerian agents destroyed. The UK is aware of this issue and it's the reason they even have temporarily stopped overseas recruitment for care jobs. The foreign students there are enough for now, and they are the most likely to take the care jobs. Imagine a master degree owner going for a care job. Well, na pali foreigners are after. Lol Now, the UK wants to correct this and what they are doing is funny. More international students will stop going there which will reduce the income of those universities. Those universities will start making noise and a smart politican will jump on it saying they should give him the power to become the PM and all will be solved. Na so dem dey do for decades. Also, the care homes will soon run out of carers since foreigners take up the job more, and less are coming in. Most British aren't interested in the job. And that will be another round of wahala..A smart politician is waiting to use it for a campaign theme to win an election in the future. Lol. This UK wahala won't stop. They have no solution to it. Lol. Their gra gra will come down by 2027 when their eyes go clear say most care workers available don get pali or are about to and dem don dump the job, or about to. Who go get masters degree and keep doing care jobs? |

Jennyclay:Hold the luuters in your country accountable. If they’ve done well, UK or US will not be a greener pasture to Nigerians. Back then, they all japa to Nigeria, not Nigeria migrating to their country |

nairalanda1:Unfortunately, Nigeria must either split or decentralise. There is a reason why the Ivory Coast and Senegal(secular) are more successful than Mali and Burkina Faso. Northern Sharia (Islamic) culture is not compatible with the modern secular culture that has been adopted in Southern Nigeria. The fact that the majority of Northern Nigeria's sources of funding come from oil and taxes from the south is an indication that the North cannot develop on its own, which means that Nigeria will never fully develop. Even Mali, B Faso and Niger are now developing their mining industry while the North waits for handout. |

sulaak:Ivory coast(the 2002-6 war) and senegal(the Zinguchor issue) have had the same issues between Muslim North and christian south, with secular constitution, just like Nigeria... Plus mining don't mean anything in today's world. I mean, Niger has been mining Uranium for decades, yet they use the revenue to import, and don't have a nuclear power station. And ye think the other countries won't do the same? Sell their minerals and use revenue to import? At prices they don't set.., and never favour them? Na so we end up in debt before now. |

sulaak:If Scandinavian nations can develop on their own why can't Northern Nigeria? Their land is more productive than Scandinavia. Kano if it needs to can collect more than one thousand naira per day on average from the over twenty mzillion people living there and that is a good starting point while productivity increases |

nairalanda1:If you like, write an entire textbook on Nairaland. The only solution to Nigeria is peaceful dissolution. While diversity is strength elsewhere in the world, it has done a lot of harm to Nigeria. People who share the same ideals are easier to manage. I don't know you refer to you guys because there are parts of this country that have been crying for government support for homegrown craft and technology, but keep getting ignored. You will return to this post 10 years later and realise that nothing has changed in your Nigeria. By the way, you can only speak about something you have tried before not something you have tested. |
