EXCLUSIVE: Leaked Audio Exposes MFM Overseer Olukoya Pressuring Pastor To Make Wife Deny Supporting Alleged Church Abuse Victim
October 9, 2025
NEWS

A leaked phone conversation has surfaced, featuring the General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), Dr. Daniel Olukoya.

In the recording, the cleric pressured one of his pastors in Atlanta, USA, to compel his wife, Mrs. Tolulope Onakpoya, to publicly deny giving financial or food assistance to an alleged church assault victim, Yewande Roberts.

According to the leaked audio, Mrs. Onakpoya had previously supported Yewande during a difficult period when both families lived in the same compound in Nigeria as MFM ministers.

Yewande, whose story of alleged church abuse following the death of her husband, Pastor Tope Roberts, has drawn national attention, had publicly acknowledged Mrs. Onakpoya’s kindness and generosity during her ordeal.

However, in the conversation, Pastor Olukoya is heard instructing Pastor Onakpoya to interrogate his wife about her relationship with Yewande and to “find out if she ever sent money” to her.

“Go and ask her and get back to me, that’s all,” the voice said. “Because the girl said it online that your wife is sending money to her. Go and find out whether she has ever sent money to that girl.”

Sounding uneasy, the Atlanta-based pastor repeatedly denied his wife’s involvement, claiming she “doesn’t have money” and “drives a church bus.”

“No, my wife doesn’t have money now, Daddy. Maybe a long time ago, but I’m not sure they have. Even she has not discussed anything about Yewande,” he said in the recording.

Sources close to Yewande told SaharaReporters that the call occurred shortly after she publicly expressed gratitude to Mrs. Onakpoya for her assistance during her most trying times. They alleged that Pastor Olukoya became uncomfortable with Yewande’s testimony and instructed the couple to release a video discrediting her claims.

“They refused to do the debunking video as Olukoya requested because they have the fear of God. That is highly commendable considering the consequences with Olukoya,” one source said.

Yewande Roberts, now an outspoken advocate against church abuse, has consistently accused MFM leadership of intimidation and attempts to silence her since she went public with her experiences.

SaharaReporters earlier published Yewande’s detailed account of alleged sexual harassment, psychological abuse, and the unlawful withholding of her late husband’s intellectual property by the MFM General Overseer.

Roberts, daughter of former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Director, Olatunde Disu, said she joined MFM while in school seeking spiritual guidance, but was instead subjected to disturbing experiences.

“He asked me if I was a virgin, and in my heart, I wondered what he wanted to do with that information,” she alleged.

She alleged that Olukoya routinely subjected her to invasive “deliverance sessions,” describing physical and emotional abuse.

“He told me to come to his office for prayers. He would slap my womb, insert his hands into my ears, touch my eyes, scrub my forehead, and strangulate my neck many times,” Yewande said.

She alleged that the cleric once hugged her inappropriately, adding that he “drew my bra from behind as if he wanted to remove it.”

Roberts’ late husband, Pastor Tope Roberts, was a promising gospel artist who won an MFM-organised music competition and was signed to the church’s record label.

Following his death, she alleged that Olukoya and MFM leadership seized his recorded songs, videos, and other creative materials, erasing all traces of his ministry from MFM’s platforms.

“They erased all his music ministrations from their social media pages,” she said. “Even the burial pictures and videos, which they handled, were never given to me. I have nothing to show my son about his father.”

She further alleged that when she uploaded three of her husband’s songs to YouTube, Olukoya personally called her and demanded that she remove them.

“He told me that if I didn’t remove the songs, he would stop sponsoring my son’s education,” Yewande alleged.

When she refused, she said the church began an online smear campaign against her.

Roberts also said she was branded a witch and accused of killing her husband.

“They called me names like ‘Emere Alakisa’ and ‘Emere Alashopinpo’, saying I ate my husband and drank his blood,” she recounted. “It broke me. I went into depression and have been undergoing therapy.”

She said harassment continued even after she left the church, with her social media accounts repeatedly hacked and deleted.

“They pulled down my Facebook page three times, my Instagram page four times, and even erased everything on my WhatsApp,” she said.

Roberts also recounted incidents of sexual harassment by other MFM pastors, including one who tried to molest her in a church residence and another who groped her under the pretext of helping her find accommodation.

“I reported him to Dr. Olukoya, but nothing was done until I had to move out of the church accommodation,” she said.

Despite years of alleged persecution, Roberts said she has refused to be silenced.

“This is eight years now, and Dr. Olukoya has refused to release my husband’s intellectual property,” she said. “I have moved on with my life, trusting that one day, God will fight for me.”

Since the day olukoya sued Saharareporters in USA for one publications involving a battle between him and some of his pastors in USA, SR has bent on destroying his reputation everywhere. Though the case was lingered for long but eventually SR was acquitted but legal fees was crazy. MFM was asked to pay fines though to SR. I think that gave him more confidence to do anyhow.

It's been long they have being at loggerheads. That's why he always publish anything negative about olukoya. Sowore always look for any aggrieved members and grant them interviews, then turn it to be sensational. That is blackmailing. This is not a different story.

UK Freezes Over 100 Bank Accounts Linked To MFM Church Over Financial Scandal
October 22, 2025
NEWS

The Charity Commission for England and Wales has frozen the assets of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries International (MFM International), the UK branch of the Nigerian Pentecostal church founded by Dr. Daniel Olukoya, following what it described as serious misconduct and mismanagement in the administration of the charity’s finances and governance.

In a report released on Monday, the regulator said it uncovered “deep-rooted governance failures,” weak financial control, and the misuse of church funds across MFM’s sprawling UK operations — which grew from a few branches to over 90 locations without adequate oversight.

According to the Commission, the trustees of MFM International failed to demonstrate effective control over more than 100 separate bank accounts operated by individual branches, leading to “substantial risks to charitable assets and inaccurate financial reporting.”

“Many of the charity’s financial issues stemmed from its complex structure, which had grown rapidly without the necessary governance improvements,” the report said.

“Branches operated autonomously, opening bank accounts and making significant financial decisions — including property purchases and leases — without trustee knowledge or authorisation.”

The inquiry, which began in 2018, found that MFM’s General Overseer, identified as Trustee A and based in Nigeria, wielded excessive control over the UK charity, compromising the independence of its trustees.

The Commission said MFM’s 2004 constitution gave Olukoya, through his role as General Overseer, sweeping powers to appoint and remove trustees, an arrangement that made “independent governance impossible.”

“The General Overseer exercised too much authority,” the Commission stated, adding that his dominance over the board “undermined accountability and effective decision-making.”

In 2018, several trustees appointed by Olukoya were also paid employees of the church, creating conflicts of interest in violation of charity regulations.

The Commission noted that this practice was only corrected when the charity amended its constitution in July 2024 to limit the General Overseer’s influence.

Investigators discovered that MFM branches across the UK had opened more than 100 bank accounts without the knowledge or consent of the main trustees.

During an inspection in 2018, the Commission found that church leaders “could not demonstrate any oversight or control” over how donations were collected and spent.

In one case, substantial funds were discovered sitting idle in a branch account “for unclear purposes,” prompting regulators to issue a freezing order in February 2022.

Following years of administrative failure and non-compliance, the Commission appointed Dr. Adam Stephens of Evelyn Partners LLP as Interim Manager (IM) in August 2019 to help stabilise the church’s operations.

However, the trustees resisted regulatory intervention, forcing the commission to reappoint the interim manager in 2021 to the exclusion of the board — a move later challenged by MFM before the First-Tier Tribunal (Charity).

Although the Tribunal acknowledged misconduct had occurred, it ruled that the Interim Manager should work alongside the trustees instead of excluding them entirely. The IM remained in charge for over five years, at a cost exceeding £1million plus VAT.

The Commission also criticised MFM’s repeated failure to file annual reports and financial statements on time. Accounts for 2015, 2016, and 2017 were each filed more than 150 days late.

Branches were found to have purchased or leased properties, taken out loans, and entered into contracts without approval, exposing the church to legal risks and potential financial loss.

“The lack of financial control and oversight by the trustees placed charitable assets at risk and is misconduct and/or mismanagement,” the report concluded.

In its latest filed accounts for the year ending December 2023, MFM International reported an income of £2.71million and expenditure of £2.19million. The charity operates roughly 50 branches across the UK, each managed by a local pastor.

The Charity Commission said both former and current trustees had failed to ensure that governance systems kept pace with the charity’s rapid growth. It confirmed that MFM’s assets were frozen to prevent further loss while corrective measures were implemented.

“The inquiry’s intervention addressed serious governance and financial issues through the appointment of an Interim Manager, which ensured proper oversight of the charity’s finances and brought about required improvements,” the Commission said.

While acknowledging recent governance reforms and financial restructuring, the Commission emphasised that the case should serve as a “serious warning” to other faith-based organisations operating in the UK.

“Trustees must ensure charity funds are used only for charitable purposes,” the regulator warned, adding that failure to maintain financial transparency “could amount to criminal conduct.”

Former MFM Member Writes President Trump, Alleges Dr Olukoya Runs Church “Like a Mafia,” Calls For US Probe
November 4, 2025
NEWS

A former member of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), Funke Ashekun, has written an open letter to United States President, Donald Trump, accusing the church’s General Overseer, Dr. Daniel Olukoya, of running the ministry “like a mafia organisation” and using political influence to shield himself from accountability.

In the letter, which has circulated widely online, Ashekun claimed she spent nearly two decades in MFM before discovering what she described as “dark truths” about the church’s internal operations.

She alleged that Olukoya exercises absolute control over members’ lives, silences dissenting voices, and employs fear and intimidation to maintain his grip on power.

“As you prepare to send troops into Nigeria to protect Christians from relentless persecution and killings, I humbly appeal for your help in investigating and curbing the excesses of Dr. D.K. Olukoya, the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries,” Ashekun wrote.

“I spent nearly two decades in this church, where many dark truths were hidden from members. Dr. Olukoya runs the church like a mafia organisation — controlling lives, silencing dissent, and using fear to maintain power.”

According to Ashekun, several pastors and former members who dared to challenge or expose Olukoya’s alleged misconduct have faced harassment, imprisonment, or multiple lawsuits meant to “crush” them into submission.

“Over the years, he has allegedly terrorised numerous members. Those who dared to expose or confront his sexual misconduct toward young girls and vulnerable women have faced imprisonment, intimidation, or multiple lawsuits designed to crush them,” she alleged.

Now residing in the United States, Ashekun said she is currently battling the fifth lawsuit filed against her by the church for speaking out.

She further claimed that MFM had attempted to have her jailed in the U.S. through fabricated criminal cases, both of which were dismissed in her favour.

“They even attempted to have me jailed here through two fabricated criminal cases — both of which I won in court,” she stated.

Ashekun also accused Olukoya of enjoying political protection in Nigeria through his alleged ties to the Lagos State government.

She claimed the cleric had “reportedly funded the campaign of the Lagos State Governor,” which, she alleged, allows him to influence law enforcement and judicial processes against critics.

“Dr. Olukoya enjoys protection from Nigerian authorities, having reportedly funded the campaign of the Lagos State Governor. With this influence, he manipulates the police and the judiciary to harass and silence anyone who leaves the church or questions his authority,” she wrote.

“I have personally paid legal fees and bail for several pastors and members who have been unjustly detained on his orders. Some who resisted him have even lost their lives under suspicious circumstances.”

Ashekun further alleged that some MFM pastors transferred abroad act as Olukoya’s agents, extending his “oppressive system” internationally and coordinating legal actions against her in multiple jurisdictions.

“MFM pastors transferred abroad often act as his agents, spreading his oppressive practices beyond Nigeria. Several of them are now being used to persecute me internationally through a coordinated series of lawsuits aimed at silencing my voice,” she added.

The U.S.-based whistleblower urged Trump to investigate the alleged abuses within MFM as part of his global campaign to defend persecuted Christians and promote religious freedom.

“Mr. President, I truly believe that your renewed focus on global religious freedom and the protection of persecuted Christians is an answer to our prayers. Please help us investigate this matter and bring an end to the tyranny being perpetrated in the name of God,” she appealed.

Ashekun’s letter comes in the wake of Trump’s recent statement designating Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” over alleged persecution of Christians.

The former U.S. leader also warned that Nigeria could lose American aid if it failed to tackle growing insecurity, even suggesting that Washington could deploy its “Department of War” against terrorist groups targeting Christians.

The church, however, has previously denied similar accusations, describing them as malicious attempts to tarnish the image of its General Overseer and the ministry.
