For those who may not understand this news, the UK government has a unit in charge of poverty alleviation through donations to charities and vulnerable people known as the UK Charity Commission.

Because the government considers churches as responsible organisations, they fund some UK churches so that they can help their active poor members.

However, Nigerian churches in the UK keep lóóting the money grin as they cannot properly account for it. Now, the government is taking action. It didn't start with MFM; Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo's church was among the first to be caught in the mess.

We complain about government and yahoo boys, now churches are doing the exact same thing! Nigérians are irredeemable!
Great you take note of that.

And now we have yes daddy, religious war Lord.

Nigerian churches are using it for money doub ling.
For every £1 donated to any charity or church, UK government adds another £1 to it and it is th is aggregate that Nigerian churches are sending home through Moneygram, Western Union transfers, TransferWise, Taptap Send, Sendwaves etc. They use many Nigerians for this transfer for a fee.

How do u know RCCG does it? Or because u attend their service or its your church?

Most or all Nigerian churches are run like sole proprietorship or rather a company.
They take money contributed to buy lands, build church branches, build schools and all this monies goes to or heavily controlled by the founder most times.

Churches are supposed to run like a charity organisation where funds donated are usually used to assist the poor, carry out communal project etc.
.
But here what u see.. Is church project church project but when the founder passes away the church finances, schools and buildings goes to the family

Check all rising preachers on Facebook...after their videos start going viral n making waves the next is "we want to build 2 thousand capacity worship center costing 50 million or above"

After that they talk about school and raise funds from members in which the members can't even pay to attend the school.

Non talk centre their messages and communal finances to the poor n needt except once in a while they distribute rice n call the media

If u doubt me if u are ill or have any members of ur family who are ill and need funds to carry out operation. Run to ur church and ask the pastor or head for financial assistance. U will discover that they can't help at worst rather they still turn to members as to contribute. One now ask where are all funds tithe and offerings and contributions going to? Sadly its gone into church building or church schools etc.

What about the people the poor jesus committed the church to look after when he even told someon of his followers to sell their houses n give to the poor
But what we see is people gathering earthly possessions
. One even had to appoint his son as General oversear with all appearance that contradict Nigerian Christian standards. If that son with his appearance appear in any church honestly no one will allow him lead as children Sunday school teacher
Sometimes it's good you apply scripture to your life about not being hasty to speak but very quick to listen. I know the RCCG does it because you have to give an account of your income every month. We call it remittance. I know because I did it last Sunday. I have the accountant of our province call me if anything is wrong or if the account isn't proper. These accountants are full time staff, mostly chartered and know what they are doing. Early this year, I went for an Audit, where that church account for two years was audited. All discrepancies were noted and I had to give account for it. Paul writing to the church in Corinth said it is required that stewards be found faithful. I'm not doing it for them, I'm doing it as unto the Lord. And every church should do same. It's not the Pastor's money. It's God's money, the people's money and they deserve transparency and proper account.
So don't just write a long epistle of what you don't know. God is raising a new generation of people who will treat his work with the sanctity it demands and deserves.

With the little resources we have and what we remit, we do our community responsibility called CSR. By 15th Nov, we will do another and distribute some rice to the people. It might be two cups, but it's something. We are also paying WAEC fees for our members. Be very careful sometimes what you say especially when you don't know. God is merciful, but there's also judgement.

During the covid-19 mock down how many churches were able to send a trailer load of rice, food, money to all branches when members were asked to stay home?? At least the store house should be opened so hungry members can feed.

Check all church universities.. Can your child attend any?
Even church hospitals are all expensive.

Nothing incriminating in the article.

Critical financial controls is to be applied. Reporting financials to the latter.

Considering the way some branch pastors misuse funds it's okay it's regulated.
At least they have a body in the UK overseeing how the funds are spent.

So, Ive read the article, and the problem seems to be that MFN UK does not have a central account for all its branches in the UK which would enable easy financial monitoring...especially since churches are registered charites, and are expected to act under the appropriate rules.

Seems kind of strange a church like that won't have a central account. Like, haven't they seen other NIgerian churches like redeemed and Living faith operate?

Yes, and having multiple accounts...yeah very iffy.

Church unis and hopsitals are very expensive, because universites and hospitals, by their nature, are very expensive.

Keep in mind that from the revenue they earn they have to pay staff salaries, pay for buildings, and expansion (because of NUC accreditation things re universites, which also brings us back to staff salaries...)pay for maintenance, pay for utility bills (which have shot up drastically), and so forth.
Note that government is not paying any money for them (as Oyedepo himself once said about his university, the only help he got from government was reducing the burecratic process of land acquisition...otherwise, zero).

Yes, we can make 'church universites and hospitals' affordable for all, but that means that staff salaries are reduced to the barest minimum, they may have to do without facilites (eg a church rural hospital may have to do without a anaesthesia work station, because that would add more money to the patient';s bill) or they may end up using rundown facilites even when they are not fit for use, or overcrowded.

The only answer to the problem is scholarships, for univeristes , health insurance (NHIA, many private incl church hospitals take NHIA Patients) or some rich guy spends millions sponsoring students, or paying for patients in hospital, which may not be sustainable...for long.

It does not matter whether the university is christian, muslim, athiest, traditionalist, etc...so long as government is not supporting them financially, they have no choice but to raise money from fees...ditto hospital. Or una wan pay professor N40000 and consultant N60000 montly because 'poor got to go to school' ?

I know, church owner is rich (yeah, I know, which is why I am not exactly a fan of nigerian pentecostalism...rich pastor, poor congregants)..but let's say pastor billionaire gave up 90% of his wealth (as they should) to keep fees down...it would work, until the money runs out. What next?

I once heard about an MFM pastor in Uk after gaining members refused to remit any money to MFM designated account and when G.O quried him he changed the name of the church that is relatable to what we are discussing here

Go and study the mode of missionary schools brought by whites those days. Study their methods of fees. Their aim and objectives.

Before then faith academy secondary schools is 200k for juniors and 270k for senior secondary schools. This exclude PTA and other fee that if u add it will get to 500k per term. How many members that contributed can send their children there?

Let's not go to the university level.

You can argue till tomorrow

They can charge fees to cover administrative cost but not profit. Anything that exceed admin, maintainance of facilities and hit profit then its now business. Take it or leave it.
. Or what's the need of members contributing and at end of the day they cant send their children they still go to private schools. Lets leave private schools to run the business.

I know of a popular church in East. Their hospital bills is in hundred of thousand. If someone heard u wenr their they assume u are big man. Their primary and secondary schools are for the elite their university same
