Tension as Truckloads of Fulani Herders Allegedly Arrive Kwara Border for INEC Registration

Reports from remote communities in Kwara State’s Kaiama and Baruten local government areas have sparked alarm, as residents claim that truckloads of Fulani herders from various parts of Nigeria—and possibly beyond—are being brought to INEC registration centres for voter enrolment.

Locals describe the movement as massive and unprecedented, raising concerns about potential political manipulation and security risks in these border communities.

Both Kaiama and Baruten, predominantly Batonu-speaking areas, share a porous boundary with the Republic of Benin, making cross-border movements difficult to monitor.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently commenced its nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. Online pre-registration began on August 18, 2025, while in-person registration at local government offices and designated centres started on August 25, 2025. The exercise is scheduled to run until August 30, 2026.

Video footage shared by Sahara Reporter on X has already sparked widespread reactions, with many expressing concern over the scale of the mobilisation.

Residents and online users continue to watch developments closely and share their thoughts in the comments.

Is it the first time this is happening? Why the fuss? If the military/kwara government hasn't spoken then it shouldn't be taken serious grin

They stay fixated on issues of Abia, Alex Otti and Southeast, and in telling Anioma people to deny their Igbo heritage while their kith and kin are being slaughtered like chickens in Kwara.

It’s most troubling that the monikers whose voices are usually the highest whenever a trailer fails break at Ugwu Onyeama in Enugu usually disappear whenever there’s report of ethnic cleansing in Kwara.

I’ve never seen a people like this.

God forbid I or my tribe will ever become this self-sabotaging for whatever reason at all.

Once INEC has been put on notice, INEC will carry out a verification excercise before issuing cards shikena.

Once there is a solution there is no problem.

Summary:

Residents of Kaiama and Baruten in Kwara State have raised alarm over reports that truckloads of Fulani herders are allegedly arriving border communities to register for INEC’s ongoing voter registration. The large movement has sparked fears of political manipulation and security risks, especially as the areas share porous borders with the Republic of Benin.

Jihad is going on in this country.

Just wondering why I have never seen the governor of this Kwara state make comments on the atrocities being committed in those Kwara communities by the Fulani terrorists.

When Funke Olakurin, daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti was murdered instead of Bola Tinubu to make sure that the perpetrators were brought to book, he ended up making fun of the death of the young lady by turning everything into tribalism by showing his hates for Igbos.

Tinubu has never spoken against the deadly activities of Fulani herdsmen across the country

Mrs Olakunrin died of gunshot wounds in July 2019 after her vehicle was attacked by armed men, suspected to be marauding Fulani bandits whose violent activities had reached a frightening level across the southwest states.

Those arrested suspects include Lawal Mazaje, 40, from Felele area of Kogi State; Adamu Adamu, 50, from Jada area of Adamawa State; Mohammed Usman, 26, from Illela area of Sokoto State and Auwal Abubakar, 25, from Shinkafi area of Zamfara State....

However, the leader of the team, identified only as Tambaya, and three others are yet to be found.

Tambaya has been declared wanted by the police and he is said to be capable of communicating in Hausa, Fulfude and Pidgin English.

Fulanis are not committing any atrocities in Kwara State or any other state. Our president knows that and you should follow his example.

Majority of them are NOT Nigerians.

I've spoken to some, after the last election cycle. One smiled sheepishly at me (he sells vegetables) and admitted it.

They don't obey Nigerian laws (those that ride okada) and will only listen to their leaders.

Plus they are usually armed (in Festac, the LG Chairman was clearing some areas of bush they store their stuff in and found weapons).

Every election cycle, their leaders organize them to vote en-masse for their preferred candidate and they claim to be Nigerians.

There is nothing in the picture that suggests or support the title.

I dont see anything that suggests that an INEC voter registration center is there.

Yet many are typing rubbish. I wonder when adults believe everything they see on social media.

What is the truth is what u said? There are words u don't use anyhow because of the generalisation and meaning it sends or portrays.

it has nothing to do with anyone's feelings but facts thst u are generalising in a very negative way which is unacceptable because it can be misunderstood.

Nigeria is a corrupt country. Thats not a generalization. Thats a fact. Ibos like money is not a generalization. Nigerians are black is not a generalization its a fact. For the mind to make a generalization then the frequency of which a said event occurs is high. Generalization is how our brain is wired. Unfortunately you've gotten over hundred likes from ignorant people. Kwara is a complex state with the Yoruba side and another side that are other tribes. The local government mentioned in that article are not in any way Yorubas. Google and read up on it. I know you may clap back with insult and tribalism, but you are ignorant. But what can I say

So after DSS alert they have suddenly arrived in truck for inec registration ok cry cry

This reminds me of the 2009 massacre of Christians in Jos in dogo na hawa this is exactly how they came one night and the village head alerted the army but the army felt reluctant to mount, more than 200 lives was lost in that attack.
