I would have said u are an Olo..........do.
But dem go ban me.
I just explain that even a gateman earn more than $1000 a month in the USA
But to Earn #1.5million in Nigeria in a month, u will have to be a big director in a big company.
Minimum wage in USA is over $1500
Minimum wage in Nigeria is #70,000
Any comparison should be comparing the value of their minimum wage there to our minimum wage here.
Or is comprehension ur problem?
You are the olodo (let them ban me grin)
Topic of this thread is very clear - we are comparing $1K per month in US to N1.5m per month in Nigeria

I have been living in the US for almost a decade, and I can tell you that the value of $1,000 in the US is less than 90k in Nigeria.

It is surprising that many of you, including graduates, don't understand that you cannot just arbitrarily convert dollars or pounds to naira in this context.

You cannot start a family anywhere in the US with $1, 000. You would need at least a job that pays you $6,000 per month to think of marriage. An ideal monthly salary would be around $10,000.

With 1.5 million in Nigeria, you can afford to marry a jobless partner, support two children, and own a decent car.

You could eat out in Nigeria with 2k, but eating out in the US would cost you around 25 dollars (35k). I get a haircut every month for $50 (75k) in the US. In Nigeria, I could get the same haircut for around 1k.

If you have a baby in the US, you would need to spend around $2,000 (3 million) per month on day care. In Nigeria, you would pay maybe 50k.

I laugh each time I see some posts on social media converting people's salary in UK/US/CA to naira, thinking the naira equivalent of those figures have the same impact in those countries. It is unfortunate that some people have such mentality.

That being said, if you manage to have some savings in places like US and you bring such to Nigeria, you could tie up a project or more.
No vex my brother, why are you still in the US? Abi you're serving jail term or you lost your passport.

Why not go back to your sweet Nigeria and enjoy 1.5M per month. When una hear million in Nigeria, you guys will think it still makes value? Bro if they carry you enter Quilox for Lekki with 1.5m you will come out owing the club. However, no club in US can sqander 2k dons. Note I leave in Brooklyn NY.

The write-up is trash! You claim someone earning $1000 in the US has a higher quality of life than someone earning N1.5 million in Nigeria! Big fat lie. First of all, someone earning $1000 a month cannot pay rent, doesn't qualify for health insurance, and live for hand to mouth. While someone earning 1.5m in Nigeria will have his own home, his own car, servants etc.
As the saying goes, it is better to be a king in the village that be a servant in a mansion eating leftovers and sleeping in the basement.

No one earns $2000 monthly in the entire United States not to talk of $1000
Again, stop comparing Nigeria to the U.S.,
Please face Nigeria and stop having unstable mind towards migration. Migration is not for everyone.
..and it's not by compulsion.

Seyi Makinde should build more public housing, ease construction permits and outlaw OMONILE. Ibadan is supposedly West Africa's biggest city, abi e don change?

The rental crises in Ibadan is caused by Lagosians who are fleeing the rental crises there. Should Lagosians be barred from moving to IB?

I agree with most of your submissions, and I know a convenient lifestyle is relative, but one does not need to earn $6K monthly before thinking of marriage in the US. Especially if both partners are working.

$6K monthly is above both the average and median salary in the US, and the larger part of the population don't make up to that.

Today I cooked a pot of stew that will last for 2 weeks

Tomatoes $6
Pepper $1
Red bell pepper $2
Onions $3
Beef $10
Whole chicken $6
Oil $3
Total $31.

25kg Bag of rice $10
Beans $20
Two slice big bread $4
Semo big size $15
Total $49

$49 + $31 = $80

I have not even spent up to $100 but I have food enough for the two weeks.
That's you. My friend spends $100 for dinner every night

What percentage of Nigerians earn #1.5m in Nigeria. Also ask yourself, what percentage earn $1000 in America. You'll realize earnings $1000 monthly is way easier than earning 1.5

Hmmm. This is just for a pot of stew that will last only two weeks which means for four weeks, you will spend twice that. What about other expenses: rent, utilities, transport, leisure etc

Don't mind the APC apologists!

The person pulling a salary of N1.5 million in Nigeria, how much will he or she earn in a similar role in the US?

A Bank Manager, Medical Director, or Project Manager in Nigeria might earn about that amount here. Would someone in the same position earn less than USD 300,000 per year in the US?

These people should stop the buffoonery and self-consolation in the name of rational thinking. There's nothing rational about this.
You can open a thread about this. What this thread is comparing is $1K to N1.5m, and it is NOT buffonery

this is trăsh.

In the US they can comfortably earn $1000

How many people in Nigeria earn 1million a month to make this a valid conversation?

The lesser paid workers receive 1000 dollars, let's compare this with our lesser paid workers who earn 30k to 70k per month in Nigeria.

Then we can discuss who lives better between the two lower class.

Comparing a low class worker in the US with the upper class earner in Nigeria and then asking who lives better is both mischievous and wicked.

Compare the two lower class and the two upper class and you'll be ready for discussion.
Valid point but NOT interesting discussion because there is nothing to discuss

This is one of the most balanced writeups I've seen on this topic.

Truth is, no matter how many millions you earn in Nigeria, the system will stress you:

- you will buy solar because there's no light.
-you will buy SUV and spend much to fuel and maintain it, because of terrible roads
-you will hire guards to secure your house because of insecurity
-one serious illness and your hospital bill will run into millions
-one unfortunate kidnap, and ransom will wipe millions from account; that is, if the person gets out alive.

If not for insecurity, I would have still managed to be staying in Nigeria.

Abroad, I will be making much more than $1,000 as there are better opportunities and more profitable business climate compared to Nigeria.

You have not been there. That's why you think so. There was a time in this country when people from other parts of Nigeria particularly the south east used to think that once you come to Lagos you pick money on the street. People that lived in Maroko, Mushin, Ajegunle, Orile etc. when they go home they painted a picture of El Dorado.

I have someone that after spending so much for a masters in engineering in the UK is still stuck in care job three years after graduation. They have been scammed by a Nigerian into an employment that has no income but they were made to pay £11,000 for skilled labour sponsorship for the wife. You can imagine someone that lives in Aberdeen that is made to go to work in Glasgow and at the end of the month the employer will say that he has no money to pay. She is stuck with it for three years unless there is divine intervention.

Japa is like any other thing in life. Sweet but not sweet for all and all the time. Let's not make it look like El Dorado.

Food is not the major expense for families in the US, it's probably the least worry of many families. They have gone far above that, unlike our Nigeria.

Rent and healthcare (and education for older kids) are the main bills.
