People who come up with topics like this one are only half clever….
The question everyone should be asking is the category of people earning 1k in the US and those earning 1.5 million in Nigeria….

1k usd isn’t up to the minimum wage in America but 1.5m naira is like 20 times the minimum wage

Instead, we use our cheap labour advantage to make domestic life comfortable — not to build export powerhouses.

This fact of the matter, and is the very deep narrative.

Nigeria is not America mate in all ramifications and indices. Call a spade a spade.
Then there'd be no discussion and the thread will never make Frontpage

Bro if they carry you enter Quilox for Lekki with 1.5m you will come out owing the club. However, no club in US can sqander 2k dons. Note I leave in Brooklyn NY.
You probably live in Brownsville. See below, cost of dinner for one in same Brooklyn. Is this type of cost for dinner possible in Naija?

Am no in US but here in 9ja, how many of us earn monthly income of 1.5mil without side hussles and scamming, except you are a minister, rep, senator or oil company worker and few other professions
If i can earn 1.5mil monthly then am a big boy!
Once you have the right skills, you'll earn big even in Nigeria. Na people wey study business administration and don't even have knowledge of Microsoft word no get any hope of such jobs.

As someone who went and then returned and then went back again, I assure you Nigeria will deal with you. You can lose all you worked for in 15 years abroad in just 2 years in Nigeria. Nigeria is a very very expensive country especially in relative terms. Eg in the UK, petrol costs say 1.50 that's 3000 naira per litre, and in Nigeria just 1000 naira per litre. You might say oh petrol is 3 times as expensive in the UK as it is in Nigeria. But the min wage in the UK IS nearly 13 quid per hour that's 26000 naira, meaning your 1hr salary can buy 8 litres of fuel in the UK.
But in Nigeria monthly min wage is 75k , assuming an 8hr a day working week that's 160hours a month which translates to just under 500 naira per hour, which means ur hourly salary in Nigeria can't even buy a litre of petrol, it can't even buy a loaf of bread..
For your 1 hour salary to be able to buy 8 litres of fuel in Nigeria you will need to earn 1.3m a month which is 17 times the minimum wage.

Enough of these noise and comparisons.

If the conditions are better in Nigeria, the folks abroad will return. You don’t need to sweet talk them into returning.

Less than 2% of folks who left have returned, the remaining 98% who stayed back have their reasons. The government of the day should quit these japa propaganda and focus on making Nigeria work for Nigerians
it’s a simple question. Someone earning 1.5m Nairaland living in Nigeria and someone earning 1 k dollars living in America who will live better life

I don't know about you, but my broda based in the canada with his family of 5 earns $6k after tax doing blue collar. This year alone he has saved $12k in his S&P 500(he sent me a screenshotof this and was thanking God he left naija 3 years ago). You people should tell young nigerians the truth! They are wasting away in nigeria. How many upper-middleclass people can save 15million a year in naija? Also you should know that food is very cheap. Those places you mentioned are high end restaurants. You will get a decent naija meal for at least $20

And in nigeria 80% of the population dont earn 1.5m na yeye comparison.

DoTheNeedful:
I have been living in the US for almost a decade, and I can tell you that the value of $1,000 in the US is less than 90k in Nigeria.

It is surprising that many of you, including graduates, don't understand that you cannot just arbitrarily convert dollars or pounds to naira in this context.

You cannot start a family anywhere in the US with $1, 000. You would need at least a job that pays you $6,000 per month to think of marriage. An ideal monthly salary would be around $10,000.

With 1.5 million in Nigeria, you can afford to marry a jobless partner, support two children, and own a decent car.

You could eat out in Nigeria with 2k, but eating out in the US would cost you around 25 dollars (35k). I get a haircut every month for $50 (75k) in the US. In Nigeria, I could get the same haircut for around 1k.

If you have a baby in the US, you would need to spend around $2,000 (3 million) per month on day care. In Nigeria, you would pay maybe 50k.

I laugh each time I see some posts on social media converting people's salary in UK/US/CA to naira, thinking the naira equivalent of those figures have the same impact in those countries. It is unfortunate that some people have such mentality.

That being said, if you manage to have some savings in places like US and you bring such to Nigeria, you could tie up a project or more.

In that USA, a monthly minimum wage can get u 6bags of 50kg rice and change go dey.
How many bags of rice can monthly minimum wage in Nigeria buy you?
That is what u should be comparing.

It is very green on the other side
If i am working in USA and earn their monthly minimum wage, i can comfortably afford 6bags of 50kg rice in that same USA.

If i am working in Nigeria and earning monthly minimum wage in Nigeria, i cant comfortably buy one bag in the same Nigeria.

The person converting $1000 that is even less than their monthly minimum wage to Nigerian N1.5million,
Let him convert Nigeria minimum wage 70k to USD lets see if he can buy a pencil in the US🤣

why the guy said so is because 1000 dollars is equivalent to #1.5m . Since that is still too small for you . Between someone who earn $10,000 per month living in America and someone who earns the equivalent of #15,000,000 per month living in Nigeria, who will live better?
