AK481:That's why you don't need to rush to comments section if your reading capacity cannot go beyond one paragraph. If you check very well with an open mind, you'll clearly see that they mentioned something like Ikere, Olamaboro, Nasarawa LGA etc. |

Father4all:No. It is the core North, full of born-to-rule supremacists and hegemonists, that is too desperate. How some of you self-destructive and self-hating Southerners cannot see this is beyond me. |

Why I support the sack is because they failed Nigerian masses who looked up to them to do the needful, but they failed... If you know, you know, a word is enough for the wise to understand. |

Nobody is asking why, everyone knows it's because they didn't perform, evident of this is continued and embarrassing killings and kidnappings across the country. It's not the army's job to give press conference, it's their job to kill the enemy of Nigeria that declared war on Nigerians. |

iwaeda:which institutional knowledge? Fulani officers promoted indiscriminately by Buhari and the North? Those guys, with their pot-bellies are hardly qualified. We must release the army from the grip of Fulani jihadists. |

Northerners know That Tinubu is Working But The Southerners-that Lost Elections Are always here ,with their footsoldiers - to bring Hatred, Bitterness, Dramatize the Topics. President Tinubu Should -Sack As Many that are Not Performing in his Cabinet - Military and Civilians alike and he should extend it to Many Ministers! Or Why Are They There In The First Place? |

ZombieDredd:To a large extent you're right. But all coups we v witnessed in Nigeria brought backwardness. It's more of ethnic coups. The rumoured one of October 1st too looked ethnically motivated. In all, coup is bad. So it's gonna cause chaos. If there's bad governance, the polls is where it's settled not via undemocratic means. Common sense things no just wan gree work for Nigeria cos the democracy should v performed better since 1999. |

simpleseyi:Sacks who every week? Political appointees or military generals? Be specific oga. If you want to lie, lie with sense. Retiring over 50 generals is wasted investment. I doubt you know. The US, Russia, China or even any same country will not retire a huge number of military brains at once. It only happens in African countries where coup is commonplace. Do you know what it costs the country and means to train someone to the level of a general? I am not against the president's decision to clean up his close circle, but to ignore its huge professional implications on our overall security architecture is plain stupidity. |

Racoon:Are there even any high ranking Igbo officers currently who have attained the ranks to be qualified as COAS? The last Igbo COAS we had was Ihejirika under Jonathan, I've never seen an Igbo Lieutenant-General before. |

zenburster:My thoughts exactly. If anything it might make the situation worse. Those Genarals being retired still have a lot of influence among their junior officers. They could still initiate and direct a coup from outside. Anyway, the Defence intelligence unit are aware of this. Hope they can do something to check that because any coup that happens in Nigeria at the moment will be damned bloody. |

Leaving conspiracy theories to one side Service chiefs have a tenure of. 2 years The president can extend at his discretion so there is nothing sudden or unexpected about this per the terms of service Another consideration is that the military has a very hierarchical system. Generals are ranked alongside course mates and when a General is appointed Service Chief his " seniors" are expected to retire Those immediately junior to them by 1 year or 2 might suffer if tenures are extended because when the change eventually comes they might also lose out if their junior is appointed and they are forced to retire So prolonging tenure of service chief will lead to apprehension in the ranks immediately below them We see the same thing in politics if you have 70 year old governors or presidents those in their 60s and 50s might lose out in younger generations become militant Imagine soludo going for second term at 66. Definitely some age groups will lose out |

zenburster:This is clearly untrue, virtually every successful coup was planned by a general 1975 Brigadier Murtala Muhammad 1983 Muhammad Buhari, Babangida Abacha etc 1985 Babangida, Abacha etc 1993 Abacha We can argue about whether 1966 was a successful coup but then how many Generals were around in 1966 So it would appear your assertion is wrong On the. other hand UNSUCCESSFUL COUPS are planned by Middle Ranking officers Orkar 1990 Dimka 1976 |

Racoon:What is the definition of suddenness? Can you give an example of one Just one that was not sudden?in the last 20 years according to any definition of sudden you like Then we have a clear idea of what sudden means? Do you know there is a rule. ? Service chiefs have a tenure A tenure of 2 years. Extension is discretionary Only the Army COAS had not completed 2 years I believe . He has been promoted to CDS this is presumably based on seniority and this will likely delay the retirement of those senior to the new COAS who may move to defence headquarters Suddenness is your imagination |

mastermaestro:CHATGPT.COM A recent and notable example of a junior officer being appointed as a U.S. military service chief, leading to the retirement of senior generals, occurred in early 2025. President Donald Trump removed General Charles Q. Brown Jr., the sitting Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and appointed retired Air Force Lieutenant General Dan "Razin" Caine to the position. This marked the first time in U.S. history that a sitting chairman was removed and replaced with a retired officer. Reuters Following this appointment, several other senior military leaders were also ousted, including the Navy Chief of Staff, Admiral Lisa Franchetti, and several other four-star officers. These actions led to a significant reduction in the number of active-duty four-star generals, as the Trump administration aimed to decrease the overall number of such officers by 20%. The Guardian While the exact number of generals who retired as a direct result of these appointments is not publicly disclosed, the reshuffling and reduction in four-star positions suggest that multiple senior officers were either reassigned or retired to accommodate the new leadership structure. This situation exemplifies how the appointment of a junior officer to a senior service chief position can lead to the retirement or reassignment of senior generals, particularly when the number of available four-star positions is limited and subject to statutory caps. |
