The Lagos State Police Command has announced the death of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division, CSP Matilda Ngbanoyen, who passed away while receiving medical treatment in Lagos.

The incident occurred on Oct. 24, 2025, at about 11:30 p.m., when the officer reportedly died at the Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere, during a medical session for fibroid treatment.

Following the report, a delegation from the Command visited the hospital to confirm the development and make necessary arrangements.

“The corpse was evacuated to a public morgue for preservation and autopsy,”sources said.

The Command said arrangements were underway, in collaboration with the late officer’s family, to accord her a befitting burial.

CSP Ngbanoyen was described as a dedicated and disciplined officer who served the Nigeria Police Force with commitment and professionalism.

The Command expressed condolences to her family, colleagues, and friends over the tragic loss.

Described as a quintessential officer and delivers in whatever task(s) she is entrusted with, the late Police Officer was until her death the Divisional Police Officer for Festac Division. She has attended Advanced Detective Course, ADC, Human Rights Protection Course and many other courses both within and outside Nigeria.

She held several roles such as:-
Secretary to the then Lagos State Police Commissioner, Hakeem Olusegun Odumosu

Crime Officer, Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos

General Investigation/Fingerprint Expert, State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Lagos

Officer-In-charge, Public Complainants Bureau

Public Information Officer, African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM)

She was further appointed Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command on 12th of December, 2020.

She was decorated Superintendent of Police (SP) in February 2021 and later redeployed to Ilupeju as DPO. She was deployed back to Panti again and later Iponri Division as DPO in 2024 before her posting as the first female DPO of the Festac Division this year.

She was decorated Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) in January 2025.

She is married with children.

Am not a doctor but she probably bled to death or there may be underlying health problems. For example in western countries, you turn up for an operation and they discover your blood pressure is high, that operation will not take place. You could spend the next 1 year trying to control the blood pressure before you now return for the surgery.

RIP to her. I pray God console her family for loosing a woman just climbing career ladder.

If these hospitals don't have the equipment for these serious cases, they should let the patients know. That's much better than butchering people on the operation table in the name of "operation".

If you are a woman and you dey approach 35 without any sign of husband, go carry bele as soon as possible and start making babies. Fibroid is expired eggs which didn't go out well due to either pills or uncompleted abortion.

If you start making babies early, the babies will always melt the fibroid before it get stronger. Don't Joke with biology... Find a way to balance it with career.

The operation may probably have been carried out by an inexperienced doctor,it's uncommon for fabroid operation to lead to death.

She was very professional, worthy, yet, humble. I had a case with somebody last two months at Festac Police Stayion. She handled the case very professionally.
