You need to open the space for imports of cement $7 Cement is unfriendly to infrastructure ambitions Cement is $2 in China The other thing us construction should be buying cement by the tonne at wholesale prices |

“Funding will not be a problem. By the end of this week, we’ll present a strategic plan to the President for continuous financing of NNPC projects. None of these projects should stop,” he said.President talk na do. Wailers will not know what will hit them by the time FG starts commissioning projects back to back by next year. |

Gyeongbu coastal highway in south korea is an example of when political will is put into project . We are not sincere with project construction in this country . Everybody is always looking for an avenue to squeeze something from the government . |

Thank you Umahi, I like the way you supervise your projects like Wike. Security should be taken seriously before opening the road or else armed robbers, vehicle snatchers and kidnappers will have a field day in that axis. I suggest they build a permanent vigilante watchtower every 10km on the road. |

This road project is one of the benchmarks I use to show the slim probability of of having a coastal road from Lagos to Calabar. Just pull up your Google map and have a look at the route and the terrain. Even without zooming in, you'd notice the several rivers criss-crossing the swampy terrain. From Delta down to Cross River same story. This project took almost a decade partly because of its complexity and I suspect funding issues, and it's just about 40km. What of a 700km road that's dual lane? |

aribisala0:The problem with this is that the importers will form a cartel and jack their price up. They preferred to make huge profit on a small sales than to make small profits on a large scale |

Putindbutt:That is watery We have built hundreds of roads in Nigeria and there is always a budget No where in the world is anyone given a blank cheque and told start building when money finish come and take more Anyone who completed secondary school understands the concept of variation If you read the story completely the road had a Budget and there were variations at least 2 times The commencement of the project was on 20th of October 2017. The initial contract sum was ₦120 billion as of 2017, later augmented to ₦199 billion, and now ₦280 billion. The President directed, ‘go and give them what they want,’ because of his commitment to the people of the Niger Delta,” Umahi explained. That simply means the per kilometre cost was varied We are not unintelligent people in Nigeria This idea that the road must finish first is not only fraudulent THAT IS NOT WHAT HAPPENED WITH THIS ROAD Nigerians are asking What is the per kilometre cost of what you have built What is the per kilometre cos budgeted for the rest It is not that complex Let them PUBLISH THE CONTRACT THEY SIGNED WITH HITECH are they telling Nigerians they gave Hitech a blank cheque |

| Re: Umahi Directs Opening Of Bodo-Bonny Road by aribisala0(m): 8:34pm On Oct 25, 2025 |
Ttalk:No I am talking about contractors building government infrastructure Government can negotiate directly with Dangote and international manufacturers Dangote has first refusal and contractors are free to import The main issue is cement price is not a secret and if government is spending billions on a contract like the Lagos Calabar Road Hitech should be allowed to import if necessary Your theory about a Cartel only works because individuals build houses in Nigeria if we have companies like Julius Berger building 50000 Houses a year one company can buy everything One cement factory produces in a month So government or a major company can build 100000 houses in one year Such a player will not buy at the same price as individuals. They would have their own warehouse and logistics To be fair to Dangote cement price almost doubles from factory to end user which is logistics inefficiency |

aribisala0:This is how those people destroyed all the very big Textile industries in Lagos, Kaduna and Kano with their Importation mentality. Tinubu is not Jonathan that allowed IBETO to import and repackage in Portharcourt while DANGOTE, BUA, Lafarge and others were investing billions of dollars to create Industries that produce locally. |
| Re: Umahi Directs Opening Of Bodo-Bonny Road by aribisala0(m): 8:47pm On Oct 25, 2025 |
professorPABX:This is not about being an ideologue I do not argue things I have not researched The fact that there is a ban on imports creates an oligopoly and abuse Dangote cement is the most profitable cement company in the world The. EBITDA is nearly 60% This is outrageous The biggest cement company in the world Anhui us doing under 20% and selling at $2 Dangote will only drop prices when there is competition and if that comes in the way of a threat of imports so be it The main input in cement manufacturing are energy and limestone China imports energy Dangote does not Clearly the cement industry in Nigeria are operating as a cartel and opening up for imports is the only way to keep them on their toes This is particularly important for government infrastructure Umahi is talking about concrete roads the difference between 2 and 7 dollars is too much Dangote should be happy with 20 % profitability like the 4est of the world |
