Invite tech companies, cybersecurity firms, and even former “hackers turned experts” to train these youths. Many of them already understand the digital underground, teach them to use those same skills to build protection systems, detect fraud, and develop apps.

3. Create Structured Incentives
Offer small grants or competitions for the best app idea, cybersecurity solution, or online business. Channel their hunger for quick rewards into constructive innovation.

4. Integrate into National Digital Policy
Make these programs part of Nigeria’s broader digital economy agenda. Train, certify, and then employ the reformed talents in government cybersecurity, fintech, or ICT departments.

5. Change the Narrative
Instead of treating them as criminals first, treat them as misguided potential. When you give people purpose, they’ll surprise you with what they can create.

If the Nigerian government builds spaces that nurture digital creativity, today’s Yahoo boy could become tomorrow’s cybersecurity expert, app developer, or tech entrepreneur. The raw energy is already there, it just needs the right channel.

We have Faculties and Departments where ICT, Science in computer, both in Engineering and many more are being taught in Nigerian Universities.

Ok, let me break it down again for you like I am explaining to a 5 year old since you cannot grab it as an adult.

Programming is a system language used in creating applications and system or programs that functions on either a local system or the Internet. The person behind that system language called a programmer can either be a good guy (Legit or White hat programmer) or a bad guy (fraudster or black hat programmer). So, in this context the Yahoo boys choose the path of the programmer that is the bad guy to defraud people using the code they have written e.g Trogan, viruses, botnets...etc.

If after this simple explanation you still cannot understand the point then I am sorry for whoever your lecture is.

What is Rocket science in relation to the crude scam activities of the two below who have now bagged 17 years for their evil scam that led to the death of a promising young man?

If you see how the American ethical hacker 'backdoored' and snared the two brothers (similar to the expose of secons video below) you will know theses guys are merely desperate and lazy thieves not intelligent or particularly knowledgeable per IT.

Only Obi, because his own knowledge is poor, can create "genius" myth around these crude desperados whereas many bright Nigerians are already making it big in IT home and abroad.

Have you watched the movie "catch me if you can". it is a true life story of a fraudster(yahoo boy) who was wanted in over 5 countries for fraud crime.
The United later arrested the young man and he was sent to serve 25 years in prison but still fraud did not stop in the United States even after catching the most wanted fraudster.

Guess what the FBI did, they went to prison and made a deal to that wanted fraudster that if he helps them crack down fraud he will be pardoned...his skills were put into use to by the government instead of letting him rot in jail ...He helped reduce fraud in the US even till now.
