The op is either mischievous or doesn't know both men well. Ooni is a left handed man and he only passed the mic. Alafin however is used to this invented style of covering mic with handkerchief possibly for security reasons as we learnt with late Idiagbon. However, considering Ooni already used the mic, the swagger of Alafin became dramatic because if the mic was "poisoned" obviously Ooni who used it first would have inhaled the poison.

It's just a very very interesting moment and idiots all over and giving meanings to it. That's absolutely not the case. Make una rest.

There is nothing like rift between two monarchs. If you have been following the two monarchs delivering speech at any public event. Ooni usually collect/give mic with left hand and also, Alaafin do cover mic before giving speech.

Please, kindly watch any public event where either of the two monarchs delivering speech.

However, the Ooni was made to speak first , before the Alaafin.
This has been playing out on most occasions that both parties are present.
Ooni is always recognized to speak for the Yoruba race.
Thank God that Pa Adebutu settled both of them at his 90th birthday. I hope it ends there.

I watch the event live on tv, Ooni was asked to speak but in his wisdom called all the Obas in attendance to join him and after speaking wanted the Aalafin too to speak.

I think Ooni should just mind his business and forget about peaceful relationship with this guy because he is not ready for peace with him and I still don’t know the reason why.

Although for me wrapping the microphone with handkerchief for me isn’t a big deal even though he might have unscrupulous reasons for that.

This is very unnecessary.
Handing the mic to Alaafin wasn't a disrespect by the Ooni. The man is left-handed and feels more comfortable handling things with his left hand.
He even writes with his left hand.
Also, I see the action of the Alaafin as a mere precaution. I have a colleague who doesn't even handle a mic during official events.
I believe this isn't the first time the Alaafin will be wrapping a mic before using it. That's why his aide was there ready with the handkerchief.
As usual, bloggers just want to make something out of nothing.

Every Yoruba child is trained to eat with their right hand. They are also trained never to give someting to or receive things from someone with left hand. When some of us were young, you dare not give something to your parents or receive things from them with your left hand without the appropriate punishment.

Even pointing to something or someone with left hand is seen as a sign of disrespect. There is even a saying in Yoruba that it is a bastard that points to his fathers house with the left hand. We can excuse the Ooni because he is left handed though, so I don't see any big deal.

With respect to the Alaafin's conduct, I really don't see anything bad or disrespectful in what he did. He collected the mic with his right hand and gave it to his aid to wrap with the white handkerchief the way he normally does. Go and look at past pictures or videos of the young king and you will see that when he is holding the mic, he never speaks into it without wrapping it with the white handkerchief. I think the young king is well brought up.
