Daejumong:Can we ask the wife if this is true? In my home, I do these too not because that is what I believed but because my wife decided not to be useful. My parents were collaborating. Based on today's realities, for a man's sanity, wives must contribute no matter how little. Women must have a source of Income. Else Family progress will be very slow. |

Daejumong:This is a wrong interpretation of 1 Timothy 5:8 and it's unfortunate that most pastors don't even know their left from their right. That verse is speaking directly to children of widows about the need to prioritize taking care of their parents first (v4) then he continued with the same message until you get to verse 8 which simply says that any grown up child (man or woman):of a widow who fails to take care of his mother/father is worse than an infidel. Our pastors have weaponised this verse against men to mean that the man is solely responsible for taking care of his wife and children and the needs of the home. God did not put that kind of pressure on any married man. That verse apply equally to men and women please. Read proverbs 31:10 - 31 and you will see that the bible is balanced. There is no scripture that forbids a woman from taking financial responsibility in the home just like the man - infact proverbs 31 seems to suggest that the woman is responsible for working to meet so many needs in the home. If the husband and wife are truly one then there should be no secrets in finances and everything should be done together This is the same way that Malachi 3 has been quoted out of context to preach monthly tithing with money whereas the passage is God rebuking priests who were stealing tithes paid by the congregation! You can't build a doctrine on just one verse. Always read the preceding verses so that you can understand the context. |

Switruth:Ok thanks for clarifying. Im just wondering how the system successfully duped men into thinking this way because women are very wise and they don't think like this A woman died last year and left over 30 million in her account with her last born as next or kin. The husband had asked severally and this woman would pretend she doesn't have any money. Meanwhile her husband is struggling to pay rent and school fees and take care of her parent out of the meager salary he is earning. She will still nag him for not giving her enough money. The man went to process letter of administration and discovered this, he couldn't believe his eyes and ears. As for me, any woman that keeps her finances secret from a responsible husband is just taking advantage of him. If you and your wife are truly one like you think then she should be transparent with you just like you are transparent to her. But hey it's your life. Do you bro.... . |

Not every man is like you. My own wife demands that I ask her what her salary is. Nothing special in both situations. |

If women won't provide at home as well, they should be excused from all jobs, so men can take all up and take care of you. Men can't be going to interviews with you to compete for a job, after getting the job, you will now tell tour husband that your money is your right. Who does that |

I have copied your write-up to my archive. It's a very valuable material to me. It is a well-written solution to counter this. I have never seen a better explanation of 1 Timothy 5:8 than this. Thank you so much. Iamzik: |

Daejumong:Dear men., Avoid messages like this. Bible talks about woman designed to help a man... Finances inclusive. Only a witch will go to school, get a career and then say that her earnings must not benefit the man and children. Even if it's not 50-50, the wife should pledge a significant part of her income to improve the finances kf the home. |

In the culture of God's kingdom not the worldly,a wife owns nothing outside of the husband -(Wives, submit YOURSELVES unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord-Ephesians 5:22-23). |

Switruth:I'm not even concerned about whether you want to ask or not. What I'm concerned about is correcting that wrong notion that men should not have any interest in knowing their wife's finances but wives have the right to know the husband's. That is what the OP is trying to normalise with this post. God bless your wife and all women who support their husbands with all their hearts. Cheers |

Women too should help out in the home and not dependent entirely on husband income. Women are designed by God to be help meets _not parasites. |
