The detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has dropped his earlier plan to call witnesses in his ongoing trial for alleged terrorism-related offences.

At the last hearing on October 24, the court had adjourned till October 27 for Kanu to begin his defence. The IPOB leader had previously written to the court expressing his intention to summon witnesses and requested more time to review his case file.

However, when the matter was called on Monday, Kanu told the court that after thoroughly reviewing the case file, he found no valid charge against him. He argued that since he believed the charges were baseless and his trial unlawful, there was no need for him to present any defence.

Justice James Omotosho directed Kanu to file a written address to formally present his position and to serve the prosecution with a copy. The judge also advised him to seek legal counsel from criminal law experts to fully understand the implications of his decision.

The case was subsequently adjourned to November 4, 5, and 6 for the adoption of final written addresses, based on Kanu’s stance that the evidence and charges so far have failed to establish any case against him—or, alternatively, for him to proceed with his defence if he chooses to do so.

He's very right, what is there to defend?

Accusing someone of terrorism without providing ingredients of terrorism found on him.



They real Case should be first court settle the jurisdiction of him to face trial, no saying he should add that among the written defense after his defense.



It shows they are not out for justice.

Can't happen, won't happen. Kanu and Igbos forced tha hand of the Government by engaging in a campaign of calumny against Tinubu, who had nothing to do with Kanu's case, for "unjust imprisonment ".

Kanu's and his pathetic lawyers then ensured case lingered till Ekpa was jailed meaning Nigeria's hand has been forced publicly to the extent no option of soft landing is now available to Kanu if his underling copped 5 years jail term in Finland.

This whole thing again highlights how Igbos do not understand how to be level-headed, bridge-building, pragmatic and diplomatic to gain what they want.

Lolz the biggest mistake Tinubu or this government would make is to file a nolle prosequi or drop the charges against him without allowing the trial concluded and have him convicted.

I believe the British are also thinking in that line so they would have reason to ban the nuisance character from ever stepping his foot in their country that could cause them to waste their tax payers money on him.

They will castrate him with a conviction and afterwards those crying for a ‘political solution’ should increase their decibel so as to get him a pardon after spending maybe 5 years.

You and all your family members are all in jail alongside everyone currently living in this forsaken country. Nigeria is a big prison and all everyday citizens are inmates. If you live in this present Nigeria and consider yourself free, then you must be a privileged dependant.

I live in "forsaken" Nigeria. It has it's challenges but the future is bright if everyone, leaders and followers, commit to playing their part.

Nowhere in the world is entirely easy today or with street paved with gold. Even the traditional developed nations are struggling today because they have no source of new wealth whereas Africa and Nigeria has tonnes that just needs to be managed well and for the benefit of Nigeria and Africans.

You can sit around complaining and cursing Nigeria daily, hating on her leaders and those who still believe in her as a nation, but I can tell you that in the next 20 years Nigeria will be a wealthy nation and fairly developed nation.

This will happen if we take charge of our resources and manage them well given that we live in an age where mineral and resources-rich nation will define the future of the world if they have smart leaders and patriotic citizens to profit from the position God has now put Nigeria and Africa in.

Keep whining and predicting doom and gloom for Nigeria, because you did not get Igbo Presidency, while events bypass you so that Nigerians who love their nation, are patriotic and have seen the future become rich, successful and fulfilled helping our nation develop optimally.
