God saved my boss. Thank God he left that place & returned to his former place. This company, I used to desire to work there when I used to work on the island. Such is life...
My elder brother worked there , it was not a pleasant experience for him, this was early 2000s.

Some oil companies like Aradel are sitting on huge piles of cash! Some business managers are horrible managers
In the first place, how on earth should the business have spent so much on such real estate when its competitors are reinvesting profits for expansion.
Food for thought.
I've always had my doubts about obijackson.
I stop taking people that are too interested in "show" seriously cos if you're serious in business, where do you find the time for all that flamboyantness ?

Business World is very brutal.
Over reliance on boardroom logic and foreign verification that lacks touch with uniqueness if Nigeria Business Environment contributes a lot to these issues
Traditional Accountants, Business Managers and seasoned indigenous tax professionals is the answer.

I heard from grapevine source that Dangote once said there is no ethics in Business. Mindset like this is capable of destroying investor's confidence, erodes trust and crumble even the most formidable business empire.
Dangote is referring to the anyhowness of business dealings peculiar to Nigeria, in a more civilized clime where business are heavily regulated say a place like China, I'm 100% sure he would say that.

Risk Management was sidelined when critical decisions was taken
Leave those textbook theories. Enter the field first, you will understand better. Business itself is a risk. You won't watch your company go down without a "fight". Sometimes it works out and people call you a genius. When it fails, everyone starts dropping quotes on you like you guys are doing to Nestoil now. cheesy

Indeed, its not all that glitter that is golds. A magnificent Headquarter building doesn't always make a friendly business organisation

Because a company is public doesn't mean executive ,turning point decisions don't fall on the table of one man!
Them don call NGX before seek their opinion before laying off staff at total downstream before?

Last last the corporate headquarter will be auctioned off to Seyi.
Like play like play Capital Oil went into oblivion.
Taking long-term Business loans in Nigeria is crazy—high interest rates and
one bad government policy away from insolvency. Obijackson is still alive but
we know that rarely do Nigerian wealth enter second generation. It will be worse
for this new crop of “Instagram” billionaires that only borrow to market clout.

Most of our billionaires particularly in the oil sector were doing business with government money. Virtually all oil billionaires ran into problems immediately Buhari came into power. It's flamboyantly lifestyle that consumed obijackson

worked in the building for like a year. The plan was to rent it out while they used 3-4 floors. Unfortunately no one rented it/ could afford the rent as at then .
So technically, this means many of the Grade A office tall buildings in VI and Ikoyi are largely unoccupied?

This underscores my assertion that most of the people the media and the Otimkpus promote as a billionaires are too neck deep in debt. This applies to most of your favorite top richest men and women in Africa. If you see their liabilities, you would thank God for the little you have. There is one of them who has been hiding from creditors for over 20 years, yet the media keep singing his praises all the time. May God help them.
Most billionaires are in debt, including Dangote and Elon Musk. No billionaire is without debt. The goal is to service the debts consistently in the best-managed form. No business grows without leverage which is known as debt.

Did you hear the news? Nestoil's corporate headquarters have been sealed off in Lagos! A consortium of lenders has placed the company under receivership over a jaw-dropping $1 billion debt.
Let us know in the comments: What's your immediate reaction to this monumental $1 billion debt crisis? 👇

BREAKING: Banks place Nestoil under receivership over $1bn debt

Police have sealed off the corporate headquarters of Nestoil Limited in Victoria Island, Lagos, after the company was placed under receivership by a consortium of lenders over a reported $1 billion debt.

A federal high court sitting in Lagos had on October 22, 2025 issued an order of Mareva authorising First Trustees and its subsidiary, FBNQuest Merchant Bank, to take over the company’s assets.

Justice D. I. Dipeolu issued the injunction against Nestoil Limited and its affiliate, Neconde Energy Limited, as well as Ernest Azudialu-Obiejesi and Nnenna Obiejesi, the principal promoters.

That's the opposite side or double edged sword of "compound interest" on loans borrowed from a bank (or a consortium of banks). If you do NOT have do a proper risk assessment of your new project against all potential variables that can manifest down the road, then be ready to go south like a speeding bullet.

If the dude can't pay back WITHIN a specific timeframe, then he should let go of that VI building and concentrate on where his has comparative business advantage or even retire. Period.

This is where politics comes in.

Femi Otedola was also in this type of debt some years back, it was Goodluck Jonathan that helped him to pay off that debt and gave him federal contracts that helped Otedola bounce back.

Aliko Dangote survived all these for decades because he always gets favoured by most Nigerian Presidents. It's all about politics. This is why big company owners play politics. This was how Russia's biggest oil firm Yukos Oil died; Vladimir Putin used politics to destroy Yukos and sent the owner to jail simply because he supported Putin's opponent during Presidential election. This is all about politics but kids won't understand. I know because I know.

If Obijackson was close to Tinubu, this wouldn't have happened because government will come in.

I am sure low contracts and Tinubu's focus on his family's Oando oil affected Nestoil.

Tinubu's family company Oando Oil is currently the favorite child getting all the government contracts and help, others are struggling to balance their books due to low patronage.

I guess because we are mostly bad managers and very poor in paying back debts to even family and friends we do owe

Dude, everybody is in debt including you and me, we acquire debt because our government borrows on our behalf and try to service the debt and it's interest via revenue generated, even big and powerful nations run on loans, we can't escape the reality of loans in the 21st century

It's crazy
The whole world is run on debt, from governments to institutions to corporations to individual consumption and it's glaring in advanced first world nations with credit cards and obvious student loans that is the norm, Africa still believe they can perform magic to the economy without stimulating it with credit/debt , even almighty china use loans, America are owing trillions of dollars as a nation, everybody is a debtor whether it's directly or indirectly by government borrowing to fund deficit spending on behalf of the sovereign nation

Very foolish and ignorant mindset
Everybody globally is a debtor as long as we are using fiat monetary system, government borrows and push everyone into debt indirectly, we must pay inflation tax or direct taxation tax on the loans to service the loans, big business men are wise and connected typically born into elite family and they understand the game of debt, ignorant bottom 80% still want to use their hard earned savings to compete against global giants who are leveraging billions in debt

There’s a level of debt that’s manageable. Most of your so called “African billionaires” are wallowing in unsustainable debt. If Otedola didn’t tell you guys that he went bankrupt in 2008, none of you would ever believe.
