Our budget is around 15 -16 billion dollars. One city in the USA spends about 2.6 billion dollars on its ambulance and fire service.

I recently watched a documentary on YouTube where a proposed tax increase in a town was voted down by the citizens. And the city government was not corrupt.

Nigerians don't pay tax because most of us work in the informal sector and because most of us think we are in the same class as the Saudis. That kind of attitude contribute to our poor income. And thus government cannot provide us type infrastructure.

Also corruption does not mean politicians eat all your money. If they did, Nigeria would have ceased to exist since 1964. Parasites don't kill the host.

If the response were to be as swift and responsive here, we have people who will call the number because they can not open their lunch box. But as response no dey, dem dey apply their brain. If response no dey, the lady would have used her brain.

Countries like Europe have comprehensive government insurance that covers everything. Much better than USA. Unfortunately you pay heavily in taxes which go up when you get richer..and if the condition is too complicated, coverage can be refused.

Same thing with insurance in Nigeria.

True but you don't have to pay. They will huff and puff then sell the debt to collection. Nobody gives a shit about that in America. You get your treatment and move on. They can't deny you emergency treatment. Many simply don't take time to understand the system.

Nigeria, bandits can invade the whole community for days and no security personnel will respond to the distress calls from the community.
The only time they respond is to come and bury the dead in hundreds of the community inhabitants after several days.

You can’t build something on nothing. We all have a duty to fulfil our responsibilities as citizens, rather than constantly expecting the government to provide or subsidise everything for free. Everyone wants to enjoy the kind of system found in more orderly societies, yet forget that people there actually pay their taxes without being chased.

Yes, corruption and embezzlement exist — no one is denying that. But real change starts with the individual.

Consider that our police has a budget that is one tenth of what new York spends on its city police, and consider that our police has to look after 230 million people , while NYPD has to look after 25 million people.

Also consider that our budget is half of what the UK alone spends on its police

Then you will get why.

Note that I do not deny corruption. Note also that the budgets I am talking about are planned before corruption comes in. Even without corruption, Nigeria police and army don't have the type of resources available to saner climes.

Nigeria is a poor country because your government is not doing what saner climes did to become saner climes. Note that it is not by taxes alone. It also includes diversification and industrialization
