Sit-tight Presidents in Africa are able to pull the magic wand because of the fragility of institutions, but basically, it's also because there are very powerful individuals (King makers) behind the president, who want a continuity in governance for their selfish and heartless gain. These guys rally behind to ensure that the president continues in office, so far there is steady flow of resources into their pockets. The president is merely a figure head. The actual leadership is provided by these so-called powerful political team of "Bandits" that hold grip to the national affairs. |

For those calling out Saraki’s father, I think sit-tight is allowed at local or state level but not at national level. Some states in US and some European cities have been dominated by one party/clique for hundreds of years while some members of parliament have sat for 40/50 years. So whether Tinubu in Lagos or Saraki in Kwara, there’s nothing wrong with a political clique controlling a city or a state but not a country. |

bigpicture001:I am not spewing trash, stating facts and if your mind turns it into trash, thats not on me, blame your head for acting like a landfiill The only thing worse than being a slave is being a slave without an analytical mind. Whatever Saraki built is on the back of his father's active participation in the weakening of democratic institutions in Nigeria. Bukola only harvested from a field his father poisoned and you clap for him as though that is greatness. |

bigpicture001:The same thing he is doing now. Finding his voice and antagonizing the same system he has benefitted from when the sytem no longer serves him the way he wants. Principles don’t mean much when they only appear after the feast is over. Between him and his sister, He felt handing over the kwara political machinery to Gbemi was unhealthy and bad, after he had benefitted from the same political machinery that was handed over to him by their father 8 years earlier Its the same pattern with him, finding his voice to criticize the weakening of the democratic system by the people in power. When the same dysfuctional sytem was serving his ambitions, he was conveniently silent. How come he never finds his voice until he is no longer at the table |

alphaconde:You forgot to add China. Xi Jiping amended the Chinese Constitution so he can rule multiple terms till he is tired. But he has lifted over 800m Chinese from Poverty. But Paul Biya is too old sha, if it was Russia or China the ruling party won't have agreed for another term. |

nairalanda1:Nigeria may not have a Biya at least in the near future even with a strong and united elites because of the tribal differences. The North and South dichotomy in a way is a blessing in disguise. Assuming all the governors and senators including local government Chairmen all decide to join APC, and Tinubu decide to go a 3rd term in office, thereby taking the turn of the North, this will never fly, the system will trigger massive unrest and possible civil war. As at now even a sit tight Northern President will not last with the present system. So Nigeria 🇳🇬 will not have a sit tight President. |

bigpicture001:That Saraki sister wanted to become Governor and he kicked against it, doesn't make him a better person. The real question to ask yourself is what infrastructural developmental change that Saraki brought to Kwara State given his exposure and number of years he enjoyed power and state resources!!!!!! Is he any different from that 92 year old man? |
| Re: Saraki: Why Africa Has Sit-tight Leaders Like Paul Biya by bigpicture001: 4:35pm On Oct 29, 2025 |
bixton:What was saraki reason to kick against his sister .? Do u remember even his father fought him to allow this governorship become a family inheritance ND he refused .? Know ur fact and dnt pour the baby away with the bath water.. on that ground of sit tight family tradition emperor behavior u can't have a stain on saraki .. So he knew what he was saying at that conference.... U are the one who is overzealous to comment even without thinking about who u are condemning.... It's okay to b tinubu's guy and fight for everything he believes... U see saraki... U is not a sit tight leader or a homogeneous leader or nepotic or party man or tribalistic... Call him anything else mr |

saintopus:Nigeria doesn't not have elites that are united behind one man. We have several power blocs that are organized on ethnic and religious lines. Someone spending too much time on seat will trigger unrest among other tribal power blocs |
