Imagine having to reduce the list of 175 convicts to 34. It means a whopping 141 criminals (including drug dealers and illegal miners) would've walked free just like that if we all had kept quite or we were all singing "Bola on your mandate we shall stand " ...😲

It's not an excuse, but my personal observation from the general behavior of African leaders.

Yes, I understand most civilizations were monarchical at one point or the other, but you will agree with me that most western nations were weaned of monarchy much longer than African countries. In fact, most of there were already practicing western style of democracy while we were still fighting each other with Spears, bows and arrows.

I believe the gap between when we were introduced to western form of democracy and when the west has been practicing theirs plays a part in how the African man practices democracy.

Also, I think the aftereffects of Colonialism turned some African leaders to dictators worse than the colonial masters. Most young Africans who turned out to be our leaders saw how the colonial masters ruled us with fiat. The governor generals jailed people anyhow, forcefully collected taxes on behalf of their home country and even forcefully conscripted Africans into their armies to fight on their side in the first and second world wars.

I think some of these absolute uses of power messed the head of some of our leaders and shaped what our democracy became before the years of military and back to the faux democracy we have today.

This may sound like ramblings to most people, but I think African leaders didn't become what that became today as a result of one single factor.

I think this is assuming our people did not have these tendencies before colonialism came. If we rea the way some of the empires were governed even before colonialism, Is it much different than what is happening now?

Of course we had our own high handed way of governance ; but also the colonialists didn't bring with them.the brand of democracy practise in the west when they came to here.

There is nothing genius about being a yahoo boy. Many of them are barely literate. I recalled when I was job searching, I had a friend who also finished from UI. He told me his area boys young boys who didnt pass WAEC were all doing yahoo. When we are browsing to send job application, they will be clogging the internet server with email extractors sending spam format emails and hoping one desperate person believes you are the son of Sani Abacha. When you start drawing a line to defend abnormalities, you won't know where to stop; and that's just the case here!

Because of their "soft crime", your Visa processes, even to fellow African countries are now stringent. As a traveler, you cannot even book a hotel easily in Ghana. The moment you identify as a Nigerian, they bring out more forms for you to fill.
Nigerian remote workers struggle to even get accepted. Some employers have a "No Nigerian policy" from the start.

While you're focusing on what we should compare, you don't even know what we have lost.

One day, you will draw the line from Nigeria to South and North.
Then from South and North, you'll draw it to SE, SW and SS
After that, we can now draw it amongst the 5 Eastern states.

No one is condoning anything. Our international reputation is largely tainted by crimes committed by Nigerians on foreign soil like dealing on hard drugs. Or you think the issues we have with South Africa is because of Yahoo??

Two brothers from Nigeria who targeted a 17-year-old in a sextortion scam have been sentenced to 17 years and six months in jail in the US.

The Ogoshi brothers, from Lagos, lured Jordan DeMay into sending them explicit images by pretending to be a girl his age - then blackmailed him.

He killed himself less than six hours after they started talking on Instagram.

It is the first successful prosecution of Nigerians for sextortion in the US, where it is a rapidly growing cyber-crime, often linked to Nigeria.

Jordan's mother, Jenn Buta, held pictures of her son in court and wept as she read a victim impact statement. "I am shattered to my core," she said.

She welcomed the ending of the trial, but said there was no good outcome from the tragic case.

Jordan DeMay was a popular schoolboy from Michigan.

Samuel Ogoshi, 24, and Samson Ogoshi, 21, sent him a friend request on Instagram pretending to be a pretty girl his age and then flirted with him.

Once they received explicit images from the teenager, they blackmailed him for hundreds of dollars, threatening to share the pictures online with his friends if he did not comply.

Jordan sent as much money as he could and warned the scammers that he would kill himself if they spread the images.

The criminals replied: “Good… Do that fast - or I'll make you do it.”

John DeMay told Marquette federal court in Michigan he still has nightmares after finding his son dead in his bedroom. He said his family was forced to move home to escape the memory..

This is first of its kind. We've never done an operation that is centered around sextortion. We've been doing many on BEC, on auto theft and, you know, different kinds like that. We've had Operation Wire Wire, Operation reWired, Operation Gold Phish, Eagle Sweep which are all almost on BEC. So this is the first time will be doing an operation solely for sextortion. And then sextortion, you know, it's a kind of new fraud coming up with youngsters in Nigeria. They see it as a kind of a crime that they engage in and they see it as a game. Because most of those I've interviewed—I've been in interview of most of these fraudsters—and when you ask them is this work or is this a game. So it's either a job for them or a game for them. And I think it is they also find it easy to do because they are not actually seeing the person they are hurting. So they don't see us, you know, like they are doing anything bad. Yes.
