FG Releases ₦2.3 Billion To Clear Salary, Promotion Arrears In Universities. by Deputy1111(op): 9:04am On Oct 30, 2025
The Federal Government has released ₦2.3 billion for Batch 8 salary and promotion arrears to universities across the country, with staff expected to receive payments immediately.

A statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, quotes the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, as saying the disbursement was processed through the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), reflecting the Tinubu Administration’s commitment to clearing inherited backlogs and improving staff welfare in tertiary institutions.

Dr. Alausa added that the Ministry of Finance and the OAGF are finalizing the release of third party non statutory deductions and pension remittances to NUPEMCO, expected to be completed soon.

He further discloses that the Federal Government has approved the full mainstreaming of the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) into university staff salaries from 2026 to ensure timely and sustainable payments. In addition, funds have been released under the Needs Assessment of Nigerian Universities, with budgetary provisions made for its continuity.

The Minister notes that the Yayale Ahmed Negotiating Committee continues to serve as a bridge between the Federal Government and unions in the tertiary education sector.

Who pays this money for private universities training more trustworthy hands for the country?

A new divide has been created. Before it used to be north/south, muslims/chriatians, hausa/non-hausa.
Now it is private vs public. Private can suffer.

2.3 billion indeed, something that wont even go round the staff concerned. the amount cannot even pay staff of ABU Zaria their monthly salary and you want to use that to pay all the promoted workers arrears, our union chairman calculated about 12k plus per staff if all universities will be captured.

What of Polytechnics and Colleges of Education? Why not clear all FTIs once and for all. Clearing only universities will signal the others in the sector to also go strike.

Lagos — Pension teachers in Lagos State under the aegis of Teacher Pensioners of Nigeria (TEPAN) have urged Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to review his stance on paying the harmonised three year old outstanding pension allowance or risk losing their votes.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of TEPAN, Mr. Ayodabo 'Lade, accused Tinubu of failing to pay the arrears to teachers on their correct pension grade since the year 2000, contrary to what was obtainable in other five States of the South-west controlled by the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
