Bro, it is like that everywhere but there is a catch to it that Nigerians don't know. Actually, it is not the duty of a DISCO to give transformer to A NEW community, that is , a place that there was never any transformer it's the job of FEDERAL/STATE ELECTRIFICATION BOARD. They are supposed to provide the transformer, radiate the wiring from the concerned stations after which they invite DISCO to come and put electricity in it and maintain it That's when it becomes DISCO's property. If it now gets faulty and needs replacement, it is now DISCO job to replace. So it is because those BOARDS are not doing their job that the community or politicians will do it for campaign purposes.

This is actually the number of documented customers. There's are so many buildings in nigeria that are not registered and yet benefit from the national grid.

If you go up north, one house fit register with disco, and he will be supplying light to other houses. It's a common practice in niger state.

The only way discos can get the accurate figure is by installing smart electricity meters for everyone

It shouldn't be a problem if the house uses prepaid meter. If he likes, let him supply the whole community

I'm not sure there is any house in my area that is using prepaid meter. We are still paying estimated billing. Lass lass na sort we dey sort JEDCO staff

A lot of households in the North do not have meter. Majority is estimated billing and the rest know how to tap light.

According to this electricity statistics, the state has fewer electricity customers than Oyo.

Even if one allows for the higher population density per house in Lagos, the lower number of electricity customers doesn't support the claim that there are over 25m people in Lagos.

The usually relatively low number of voter turn outs during elections also undermine the 25m population claim.

200million people can't be customers. Most of them are dependants from a household.

12.4m real payers and workers out of 250m people in Nigeria yet govt still want to impose tax on this little number to sniff the life out of us.

How is Eko and Ikedc still less than 2.5m combined? With the whole population? It means a lot of people don't have meters and that leads to fraud. We are not yet serious about power.

Really! I thought Nigerian breweries have their own power plant (IPP) managed by TOPEC? Don't forget that Aba has a Nigerian breweries PLC 's brewery and thousands of other small and medium manufacturing enterprises too. Mind you, I am not by any means supporting what the first guy said about Ibadan, even though I found it hilarious

The higher the customers, the higher the revenue that will be generated. Based on this premise, suffice to say that Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company is the richest of them all.

Hummmm it's not a straight line relationship. Ikeja and Eko have some single customers that can sink 132kv feeder in their premises and they are counted is 1 customer while that feeders will be hundreds of thousands in other places

If you are not the most funny and unexposed person in that region, you will know that the ABA brewery of the Nigerian breweries is the biggest in Nigeria apart from the Enugu Ama brewery that has not been working effectively because of poor water problems.

You are using a little brown roof town of Ibadan to compare a heavily business/industrial town of Aba.

Let's just make a little comparison, how many 3 to 4 story building are that place you are staying at Ibadan?

Where I'm staying in Aba ( falks Road) is over 50, you can make inquiries if you like. I'm not even talking about small small buildings like the ones in your Ibadan.

These are number of households not human counts and remember there more buildings with blocks of flats in southern Nigeria than the north........ village areas with bulk community bills are usually counted as just one customer........ now you know

Those Boards were created when the electricity business was government owned to act as you said but since after privatization, it ceased to be their responsibility though government intentionally left them active to keep on intervening when necessary but not a responsibility any longer as that's why they seem less active again

I know IBEDC serves the whole of Oyo and Ogun and parts of Ondo States I think so no surprise there.

This and that price hike that went up last year from retail traders when dollar went up to $/1900 showed that Nigerians deserves their rulers.

And someone will claim they have sense. So many people should stop commenting on Nl, they just spread ignorance everywhere. It was a number of meters that was counted, and are you telling me now that every single individual in your house has a meter, even your one-year-old baby? So many households do not have a meter, only using estimated billing, and even in some cases where there is a meter, it is used by the entire compound and registered in the landlord's name single individual.

If you believe Nigeria population is upto 200 million, you are not normal

What we need is revenue figures for the discos though most big companies are now off grid
