Used to enjoy traveling across Naija and neighboring countries during and after my Youth service.

Those that have never travelled would never understand the thrill, fun and education of embarking on such journeys.

Sadly, Insecurity and Terrorism severely damaged and dampened my love for travelling in this country... Such a shame!!!

I know friends that narrowly escaped death while on such "tourism"... Others were not quite fortunate. embarassed

...It's a real shame what the beautiful nation and even continent have become badly reduced to due to Politics of terrorism.

Growing up back then, traveling was a must for anyone serious about understanding and learning... It is a proper form of education.

Shocking to know there are a lot of men and women in Nigeria that have never visited or stayed in more than 2 cities in their country... Smh!

Some of you even brag about being local champions in Lagos, Abuja, Benin, etc... Una no just dey shame.
cheesy grin

u don't wonder why some states in North have better road infrastructures than some so called oil producing states in the south, especially south south, when I see some SS people complaining about other people stealing their oil money, I tell them to better hold their governors responsible, a state like jigawa should not be looking more advanced than bayelsa or delta...... U r right about the emptiness though... I still don't believe we are up to 200 million people in Nigeria.... U can travel for more than 3 hours in Niger state without seeing a significant village or town
We definitely are . . . . regardless I understand your hesitation believing it, when there are places in this country where they count cattle in census figures . . . .

How to know we are? There are some indices that can tell . . . when you look at mobile subscribers alone, you get an idea (notwithstanding that many people have more than one line - still many more - especially in rural areas, have none at all still). Over 170 Million subscribers as of May 2025. That gives you an idea.

If you look at the voters registered in the last election, almost a hundred million people. . . . all of these give an idea and a hint.

let me tell you why northern Nigeria states have better roads than southern Nigerian states. are you ready?

Rain

you have no idea how much damage rain can cause to our roads. A shabbily built road in the North will last longer than a less shody one done inn the southern nigeria states for the same reason. Swap the weather for 5 years and I can assure you, none of the northern roads will last 2 rainy seasons.

Even to travel home for Sallah, I no dey try am.

I used to enjoy travelling before, but insecurity and all the unpalatable stories have made me detest it. 7 years running, I never comot for Lagos.

You have to understand that the west African CFA which you are referring to is different from the CFA the poster is using which I believe is centra African CFA

With due respect let me enlighten you a little

There are two types of CFA in use in Africa:

1. The west African CFA with ISO code "XOF" and issuing authority being "BCEAO" which is in circulation in about eight African countries

2. The central African CFA with ISO code "XAF" issuing authority is "BEAC" which is in circulation in about 6countries.

You dare not spend Cameroon CFA in Benin Republic, it's practically impossible.

Hope this helps
Knowledge is like onyx, one digs deep to get it cool wink
thank you bro. I was confused for a bit when I saw OP's first conversion rate. I totally forgot we are dealing with a different CFA

Exactly what I was thinking...
you do realise west african CFA (like one of you posted a screeshot of) is different from central african CFA? right? I mean the man that did the exchange physically is telling you what happened in front of him and you in your bedroom are doubting. c'mon now

FULL disclosure: I was also confused when OP shared how much CFA he got at the exchange. Someone's post here reminded me we are talking about Central african CFA. I expected the poster that "researched" to put up a screenshot to at least see that there is more than one CFA on the currency exchange rate table.

people travel all the time. even people who do not have a needle to their name will never leave their street so i don't know what you are on about. There are risks involved with travel, but you should be able to handle them as a normal adult. If you read through this thread, there is somewhere they had to wait until 9AM because the gates to the city were shut.

Make una try dey travel abeg. Africa is a very big land mass. you have allowed foreigners to lock you in one corner in the name of international border and insecurity. Please travel more.

I grew up in the North and we have our fair share of rainfall and even flooding , so u can't blame it up on rain, you construct roads without drainage, contractors use substandard materials, they don't do regular maintenance on your so called roads and you're blaming it on rain? Kai

you can not even estimate the number of people using mobile phone service subscriber count. Some people have more than 5 registered phone numbers. Some mobile numbers are registered to devices e.g. vehicle tracking software. Some of us have never owned a mobile device

Nigeria is not up to 200 million. That number is around 100 million or less

you grew up in the north. that statement tells me you must have lived in the south. are you comparing the amount of rainfall a southern town like Warri gets with a northern town like Maiduguri? that's why I said earlier "you have no idea how much damage rain can do to our roads". you don't. so try and travel more then you might understand what I am talking about.

oga I'm currently in the south, I'm currently in ogun state, and I travel around, my job requires I do so.... You can't have all this bad roads and blame it all on rainfall.... I served in Ekiti and it rained throughout my stay there, rain started around march and was still falling in December, they have good road network, even in remote villages, most of their roads are old but have good drainages and they are regularly maintained....
I'm in ogun now and I see all dis bad roads, u can't blame everything on rainfall sir...

Don't use rain to cover your greedy politicians in the south, North have more quality roads than south.rain or without rain the roads will more than the ones in South.

But why does he have to travel to Maiduguri for this journey.... Is there no road from Calabar through Cameron then CAR to south Sudan.
He doesn't even need to get to Calabar. From Uyo to Oron beach market, he'll get a boat to Cameroon with just N8000.

Bros, in road design and construction, there are considerations for impact of water. Most roads in the south are of poor quality and maintenanceis poor. Let's be truthful.
