*ONE STATE SLOT FOR EACH ZONE* : *NATIONAL ASSEMBLY PICK ANIOMA STATE OVER TORU-EBE STATE.* When I grew up to recognize myself as an Ijaw person, I once asked my late father a question that still troubles me today: Where were the Ijaws when states were being created? How did we allow ourselves to be so kpalakpala—so fragmented and balkanized—across many states, when the Ijaws are not even scattered by nature? His reply was simple but painful. He said the Ijaw people went to school late. When the main things were being divided, there weren’t enough Ijaws in positions of influence to defend the rights of our people. He also said there was fear among the powers that if the Ijaw became too united, the oil they drink from Ijaw veins would be threatened. This issue of state creation must not be taken as a joke. Before they announce the six newly created states—one for each geopolitical zone—we must make our stand clear. We cannot continue to use our oil to feed Nigeria while being underrepresented and politically weakened. Toru-Ebe State is a must. They chose Anioma over Toru-Ebe State. Anioma should naturally belong to the South East, not take the single slot meant for the South South. The Ijaws of Ondo, Edo, and Delta must never again be marginalized. We are already forming 31 LGA teams and will establish a full-time state executive to pursue this cause. What’s the essence of more states when the same foundational issues remain? It would have been justice for the South east if the new state was created for them since they lacked one state to make up with other regions but this is Nigeria where justice is not justified. 2 Likes |

Give the Anioma people their flowers they didn't go to sleep when Ned Nwoko was busy trying to sell and finish them and their descendants They even let everyone know that Ned Nwoko's Papa was from Enugu but they had still embraced him as their own because his mother was Anioma They really took their time to dissect and explain his ancestry and why he was misbehaving towards them |
