bestman09:You are right : As long as Trump is in charge, if I absolutely have to visit the United States, I prefer to go in the queue for a regular visa with others. I’m no longer part of the society, not even as a resident.” Soyinka described the act as cathartic: “I delivered myself from uncertainty, from discomfort, from internal turmoil.”

Soyinka, who is a staunch critic of US President Donald Trump,Yet he can't criticise Tinubu |

helinues:Even if we do not like Trump, we have to be objective. Prof Wole Soyinka himself said he destroyed his green card in protest to Donald Trump getting elected as US president. He says he no longer wants to be a part of the US society. What is wrong if the US decides to cancel and take away his visa. Its not about his remarks of Trump. His status as a green card holder is a privilege that enables him to be a stable member of the American Society, the man himself says he does not want that anymore. Why should the US keep his visa valid. If he ever changes his mind, he should talk to them that he now wants to be a part of your society, give me my visa back. |

shortgun:His Nobel prize in literature was not in African literature category but in literature. Don't water down his achievement even if you don't like the man |

tunapawizzy:USA has every right to revoke his visa and he should just suck it up and let it go considering what he had said in the past. |

Lukuluku69:People don't know because it's a well kept secret. But I am writing a book on the topic, it's something every African should know, else we'll keep repeating the same mistake over and over again. At least let me keep it for the records |

Prof Woke Soyinka knew what he did. He is pretending as if he has not done anything. You threaten to tear USA Green if Donald Trump wins the USA 2016 presidential election. When Donald Trump won the election, you kept to your word and tore the green card. Those guys have good records oooo. |

At age 91+, I don't think he should be too worried about a US visa. If God allows me to reach such an age, I'll gladly return and relax in my country home to enjoy the twilight of my life on earth. Such things won't bother me in the slightest. |

EnergyEnerrgy:If this happened in the 60's-80's, the US embassy will be on their knees begging Soyinka to resolve the issue. But I don't blame you or anyone else if you don't know |
| Re: US Defends Soyinka Visa Revocation by shortgun(m): 4:13pm On Oct 31, 2025 |
EnergyEnergy:Exactly what other African authors were trying to achieve, a platform that celebrates and promotes African literature written in African languages. The advantages is far more rewarding than wole soyinka's Nobel prize in the colonialists language |

mablie:No, you are wrong. Destroying your US Green Card has serious consequences. Expedited deportation, revocation of residency status, difficulty re-entering into the US and sometimes criminal prosecution are some of the consequences. All of these are handled by the US immigration. What's Trump's business with prof? I urge prof to respect himself to avoid further humiliation. He had acted before thinking. Now he is thinking, but it is too late. The US cares less about a non-citizen. |

God never take prof from us now. We need more of this type of voice in the world. I concur to that name.... The White Idi Amin, lol. FarahAideed: |

Omoawoke:And he held a press conference? Common, stop this man. Some of you don't know Cap'n more than us. Prof goofed on this, truth be told. One thing about truth is it knows no boundsries, age, or status. There are some utterances you don't allow to to go out of your room, and outside camera. The need to stay relevant exposed Prof, honestly. |
