Re: Mushroom Business In Nigeria By Eti Farms by Alusiizizi(m):
Mushrooms?? I have a love affair with mushrooms. I especially like them in stew or spaghetti sauce.

Sauteed mushrooms:
Frying pan
2 tablespoons of olive oil.
Chopped garlic
Chopped habernero pepper
3 tablespoons of peak milk(concentrated)
1 teaspoon of salt
2 cups of mushrooms
1/4 cup of water

Put olive oil in frying pan and cook until oil starts popping, put everything else. Cover the frying pan. Cook until the water reduces, open the frying pan, then continue cooking until the mushrooms start browning. Remove from fire. Set aside.

Meats:
3 Kg of beef.(Chopped finely)
2 tin cans of peak milk(condensed).
3 tablespoons of salt
Chopped garlic
Ground habenero pepper.
One cup of lemon juice(lime juice can be used here in place of lemon juice)

Mix the milk, salt, garlic, pepper and lemon/lime juice in a bowl. Into the bowl is put the chopped beef. Cover and leave to marinade for at least 5 hours(but not more than 24 hours).

Remove the meat and put in plastic bags and tie up to prevent water from entering. Do not throw away the marinade, as it will be used in the next step. Then you will put those plastic bags in a pot of water and boil for 30 minutes. During this time, prepare frying pan and grease with some olive oil. Remove the meats and put them in the frying pans, making sure to empty the contents of those plastic bags into the frying pans. Cover the frying pan and cook the meats in there until the juices reduce. At this point, open the frying pan, the fat from the meat would have either rendered or broken down, and it is this fat-oil that the meat will be fried in. Keep stirring until some nice crusts are formed on the meat.

Sauce:
1 can Tomato paste
1 can Tomato puree
6 fresh, fully ripe tomatoes
1 clove of chopped garlic
1/2 cup of crushed ginger
1/ cup of vinegar
1 cup of olive oil
1/2 cup of basil leaves
1/2 cup of rosemary
Marinade from the previous step.
1 cup of water.

Into a frying pan put 2 tablespoons of olive oil, then put the garlic and ginger and just enough water to wet the bottom of the pan. Cook until the water is gone at which point you stir until the combination is roasted, Now put a little tomato puree into the pan and cook, this way you can easily scrape the entire content of the frying pan into a large pot.

Now, put everything listed above into the large pot and cook on low heat for about 20 minutes. Open the pot, put the mushrooms and meats that were prepared in previous steps into the pot, cover and cook on low heat for 2 hours. After this period, open the pot, increase to high heat and cook until the sauce has reduced.

Spaghetti:
Boil spaghetti and salt in water.

Food is ready!!!

We used to havest lots of it back then in my village, but it doesn't last up to the next day without having maggots.
The only way to preserve it then was to cut it into pieces, add salt and sun dry it that very day.
@op, what's the best method to preserve it.

I eat mushrooms daily when in the UK. It goes very well with full English breakfast. Eggs, toast, mushrooms, tomatoes, bacon and hash browns. Nigeria is a poverty stricken country hence lack of nutritious foods.

This is the type of youth entrepreneurship we need in Nigeria. Not everyone will do tech or crypto — we need people solving real-world problems like food security, healthier diets, and agricultural innovation. Farming mushrooms and converting them into spices/products is smart. You are growing food, but also adding value, meaning more income and job creation. I love to see it!

Yea, it's a nice and nutritive alternative to meat.
The cultivators could do better by making it more affordable for adoption in Nigeria.

I cultivate mine myself.

Its too simple.

You need two basic ingredients.

1: Substrate or growth medium (saw dust, dried rice straw, Old wood, Grains, old, paper, etc)

2: Mushroom Spawn (This is the seed. It is simply the fungus which had colonized or grown inside a substrate which you can use as 'seed')

Mushroom is simply fungus. Fungus colonizes or engulfs things it likes l, and turns the whole thing white as you can see from the OP's bags. Those were brown before (saw dust).

1 & 2: Sanitize the substrate by steaming for 2- 4 hours if using sawdust to kill bacteria and bad fungus. If using rice straw, use hydrated lime and soak for 14-24hrs. This one is more simpler.

-I use dried rice straws in place of the popular sawdust for the substrate.

-I buy grain spawn from Mushroom Planet (Google this person or ask OP if they sell).

How I do mine:

1: I cut the rice straw into small half-finger sizes. I Soak all in water which has some measure of hydrated lime (calcium hydroxide). This kills unfriendly microbes like bacteria by raising the PH level of the Soak.

2: I remove the soaked straw in the morning of the next day and keep inside a sack to drain.

3: Spawn-straw-spawn-straw-spawn: By evening, using pure water bagging bag (the main bag containing pure water), I pour some little spawn (grain spawn) inside the empty pure water bag, then fetch some straw and add on top. when it reaches the middle, i add some more spawn...add straw and top the bag with spawn...

You can even do the above using that big black nylon bag for waste.

make like three incisions on three sides of the bag and keep somewhere for the bag to turn white with the mushroom spawn. after like three or four weeks, the thing will rear its head from the holes you made.

I find rice straw and soy husk most fruitful for me than what the OP uses (saw dust).

cc:Amwitty

Simply get the edible seed from the sources above if you're not sure.
