Ciara Pledges To Showcase Lagos’ Beauty As Lagos Fashion Week 2025 Kicks Off by eyesoflagos(op): 5:50am On Nov 02, 2025
American singer, dancer, and style icon Ciara has pledged to use her global platform to celebrate the creativity and beauty of Lagos as the city’s much-anticipated Lagos Fashion Week 2025 officially began on Thursday.

Ciara, who touched down in Lagos earlier in the day, joined Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) closing gong ceremony, where she expressed admiration for the city’s fashion culture and entrepreneurial drive. The four-day event, which marks the 15th anniversary of Lagos Fashion Week, runs from October 29 to November 2, 2025, and features top African designers, models, and creatives. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Speaking to reporters at the NGX floor, Ciara said she felt deeply inspired by Lagos’ evolution into one of Africa’s leading creative capitals. “I will be using my platform to showcase the beauty of Lagos,” she said. “My heart beats differently whenever I’m here. The city’s growth and creative energy are inspiring, and I’m excited to see what the designers and young talents will unveil this week.”

The Grammy-winning artist, who has long been known for her love of African culture and fashion, emphasized that Lagos represented a blend of innovation and resilience. “Lagos is not just a city — it’s a movement. There’s something powerful about its energy, and I want the world to see that through fashion, music, and culture,” she added.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also addressed guests during the ceremony, applauding the organizers of Lagos Fashion Week for their consistency in positioning the state as Africa’s creative heartbeat. He noted that the event has not only elevated Nigerian designers on the global stage but also contributed significantly to the local economy by promoting exportable creative talent.

“Over the past 15 years, Lagos Fashion Week has become more than a showcase of style — it is now a major driver of innovation and investment,” the governor said. “It reflects the spirit of our city: resilient, inventive, and forward-thinking. Our administration remains committed to supporting those pushing locally created brands to the global market.”

Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the ongoing partnership between the Lagos State Government and the Nigerian Exchange would continue to open financial and global opportunities for fashion entrepreneurs, particularly among young people. He described fashion as a critical sector in the state’s economic development plan, capable of creating thousands of jobs and promoting Nigeria’s soft power on the world stage.

He. further stated, “Lagos symbolises Nigeria’s potential to lead Africa’s economic and creative future. We are proud of what this platform has achieved and look forward to seeing our designers grow into global brands.”

This year’s Lagos Fashion Week is themed “In Full Bloom”, signifying a new era of creativity and collaboration within the African fashion ecosystem. Organizers say the theme reflects both the maturity and the forward momentum of the continent’s fashion industry, which continues to gain recognition internationally.

Since its inception in 2010, Lagos Fashion Week has evolved into a prestigious annual showcase attracting local and international attention. It has provided a launchpad for several emerging African designers who now display their collections on runways from Paris to New York. The 2025 edition is expected to feature collections from over 60 designers, alongside exhibitions, business forums, and sustainability-focused workshops.

Ciara’s presence at this year’s event underscores Lagos Fashion Week’s growing global relevance. Her participation has already generated significant buzz across social media platforms, with fans praising her connection to Nigeria and her efforts to spotlight African fashion. Industry insiders believe her involvement will further strengthen international media coverage and collaborations between African creatives and global fashion houses.

Other People’s Money, OPM is very good to spend on misplaced priorities such that the 36 states are not employing enough teachers for the free education of all children. Do you know why Lagos is setting a bad example in this regard despite being ruined for 26 years by progressive politicians who have squeezed out increasing tax burden on the masses?

Lanrelagboi:
Lagos has now crossed the 3 Trillion Naira annual budget mark. Crossed 2 Trillion in 2024.

Memory Lane: the first full-year Lagos State budget (Year 2000) in the 4th Republic was in the region of 40-something billion Naira. And it was described as “unprecedented” back then.

(A case study of Nigeria citizens & their elected oppressors).

During the Soviet dictatorship of Joseph stalin. He was a brutal dictator with mind of his own. On one fateful day, stalin came to Politburo meeting with a live chicken. Standing in front of audience, He started to pluck the feathers of the live chicken off one by one. The chicken trembled in pain, blood tricking out of its pores. It gave out grievous cries, but stalin being a cruel dictator continued without remorse plucking the feathers out until the chicken was completely Unclad. After which, he threw the chicken on the ground. The Unclad chicken was staggering in pain. stalin goes into his pocket and from his pockets, he took out some chicken food and started to throw it at the poor & hapless creature. The poor chicken in pain started eating and stalin started walking towards his seat. As he walked away, he kept dropping some feeds on the floor & the chicken followed him and sat feeding from his feet.

Joseph stalin then turned to members of his political party leadership. He said, "This chicken represents the people". "You must disempower them, brutalise them, beat them up, starve them and then leave them". "If you do this, go into your pocket & give them peanuts when they are in that helpless and desperate situation, they will blindly follow you for the rest of their life, worshiping you". "They will think you are a hero forever. They will forget that, you're responsible for their sorrowful situation in the first place." Breath taking, isn't it ?

Now! Take a look at all the people some Nigerians are busy defending on social media. Take a look at those they call their heroes. They are the same people who plunged Nigeria into the situation she is. They are the same people who are responsible for their predicaments. Did you see the numbers of people that throng to Saraki's House during this Sallah period to go collect peanuts? People trooping to Bola Ahmed Tinubu Foundation offices to collect branded One kilo bag of Rice & Noddles. Did you see the number of people of all ages who troop out to welcome Ex- convict James Ibori to South South! Do you see the number of handle mop following obi as if he is a seat? what of the one following dino malaye?

Your guess is as good as mine. Nigerians kill those they should defend and defend those they should kill! Pass to all your contacts & let your Political & Religion Leaders read, understand & digest.

Babasessy:
The Awolowo rebirth in the Southwest has inspired gongs, songs and rhetoric of sorts. But they have missed one point.

It occurred to me in Abeokuta last week amidst the big crowds and euphoria of the swearing-in of Senator Ibikunle Amosun as governor. In all the states from Lagos to Edo, where Awo has witnessed ideological resurgence, hardly a single family member has played a role.

So we have an Awo family without an Awo. That is an irony. But history overwhelms us with this sort of twist. Obafemi Awolowo toiled for his reputation. His roots were lowly, he toiled to school both home and abroad, launched into careers in law, business, journalism and eventually politics. He carved a niche for himself, and became the first methodical and charismatic leftist in our history.  Other leftists abounded but they did not inspire comparable drama and following.

He faced tribulations, went to jail, failed in elections, won a few, but he imprinted his ideas and legacy in the country, and no single mortal has beaten him in the history of this country. His greatest achievement was in the area of ideas, and that was how he fashioned a family. Most families are born of biology but his issued from ideology. That family suffered with him.

In a spoof of Jesus Christ, these were the men who followed him in his teachings, and endured with him in his temptations. So he formed a kingdom for them in the Southwest, in the old Western Region, presiding over his projects, his legacies and people.

In all of these, the family he had was not his flesh and blood. In another spoof of Christ, who were his family anyway? Those who were with him must be counted as his family. So, I combed in the ambience of Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), and I found none. I went to Ogun, I frisked the crowd under Amosun’s bower, hardly any. Around Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in Osun, I could not lay a finger. With Governor Kayode Fayemi in Ekiti, where are the forbears of Awo? Yet, I can hear the chants of Awo. Hardly in any of the inaugural speeches or any of their other public intervention would you miss the philtre and filter of Awo from these gentlemen. To parody Novelist Joseph Conrad, they are the sparks from Awo’s sacred fire, the messengers of the might within the man.

Already all of them are pursuing the legacy ideas of Awo: free education, free health services, infrastructural development, urban renewal and economic engineering.

Lagos has posted itself as the John the Baptist. The others are putting up valiant efforts, and the world of course is watching to see how well they will perform. It will call for great work, resourcefulness and cooperation. They are the real Awoists, and Awo was a man of rigour and vigour.

The Awo son that many expected to take after the father was Olusegun, who unfortunately died in a car crash. We shall never know if he could have pulled it off.  But the others have not shown much of the paterfamilias’ brio and depth. In the past decade, under this republic, they have blended with the wrong crowd. Even H.I.D, hobnobbed with Alao-Akala, who brought illiteracy to governance; with Oyinlola who turned the grace of office into a hell-hole of despots; with Daniel who could not arrest his quick fall into megalomania.

I wrote once that this woman whom Awo once described as the jewel of inestimable value has lost value to his cause. If he came back to life, he would have committed the extraordinary act of divorce after death. Even his newspaper, The Tribune, has so stumbled and fallen that it swims in Awo’s vomit.

Look, just go and seek healing. You're not right. Always miserable, morose and depressing even when there is no need to be that way.

Has all the negative and depressing garbage you cull from www.depression.com you supply 24/7 and paste here for years now, stopped the likes of Ciara, Idris Elba, Didier Drogba and so many global icons from visiting and praising Lagos profusely?

The Oyo State-born mechanic said, “We don’t have toilet in this area, including our compound. This canal that you see serves as toilet to all of us living in this area. We defecate inside nylon and throw it inside the canal.

“For people that don’t want to use nylon, they have a special bucket that they use after which they pour it inside the canal too.
