Hey guys. This car is dealing with me. It's a 2007 ford focus. (Station wagon). Trouble no 1: the parts are Very scarce. Trouble no 2: there are no mechanics that know how to fix it. The problems I am having with it are: Engine going off when slowing down at the traffic. When at a stop, the engine revs itself, going up and down. Engine making a whistling noise. A brief rattling noise when I start the engine. Please I need help, I am tired 😩. I stay in Enugu. Do you have this car and what are your experiences with it? Do you know a good ford mechanic in Enugu?

DanXTech:First of all, look for a good auto mechanic with a good professional car scanner and run diagnosis on your car. For the irregular idling issue (when at a stop, engine revs itself...); check your idle air control valve and/or throttle position sensor. While I don't understand what you mean by "engine making a whistling noise", but check your air intake system. You may have a leak somewhere. A brief rattling noise when I start the engine; you may have a worn fan belt or check your adjuster. Anyways, scan the car first with a good professional scanner. |

foodlum from Nairaland: "Why is hardly no one talking about the absolute best of all.....the Ford Focus? That car is one of the best kept secrets of the auto industry. Solidly reliable as a rock! Its very economical too with low gas consumption and very easy to maintain. Just make sure you get a Focus with the DOHC engines. Those engines are indestructible. Very very reliable. Avoid Focus with the single overhead camshaft engines. They are made by Ford and they a nightmare. But the dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) engines are like Toyota engines. They are actually made by Mazda. Ford Focus engines and transmissions are Mazda made. The Ford Focus was a product of a joint venture between Mazda and Ford. Thats why they are so rugged and reliable. Ive had two of them in the past, the 2003 and 2004 models. Drove them on long distance trips endless times several times over many years from Georgia to Tennessee to South Carolina, North Carolina, West Virginia, DC, Delaware etc. Never had one single problem with them. Exceptionally reliable, smooth driving wonderful cars!" https://www.nairaland.com/8097385/peugeot-206-kia-rio-ford/4#130136121 DanXTech: |

Let's start with the kind of engine oil you are using on that car! If you don't get it right with the right recommended synthetic oil, every problem you have described in your narrative will start happening to that vehicle. Trust me on this, because my son has the sedan of that same vehicle with invariably the same engine. |

For the up and down engine rev.... Check your oil, it might have lost its viscosity/thickness. You might need to change the oil if you haven't done that recently. |

The quoted post below was an excerpt from a post I made couple years back on NL about Ford Focus. If the engine in your Ford Focus is a single overhead cam engine, you are in for a world of torment and pain. Even here in America, during the hey days of those cars, mechanics had no answer to the innumerable and perplexing headaches of that engine. My advice to you: STOP spending money on the engine if its a SOHC (single overhead cam) engine. Its a horrendous money pit. The problems never end. The Ford Focus was a joint venture between Mazda of Japan and Ford of North America and they came in two variants....with a Single overhead camshaft engine and a Double Overhead Camshaft Engine. The SOHC engine was made by Ford while the DOHC engine was made by Mazda. You are better off changing the engine to the (DOHC) dual overhead camshaft engine. That engine is like a Toyota engine. Exceptional reliability. Or just buy another Ford Focus with the DOHC. Just make sure its clean and been well maintained. Stay away from spending money on the SOHC engine if thats what you got in your ride. Just cut your losses now and move on to sumn else. Good luck! foodlum: |

YOU HAVE AN AIR VACUUM LEAK....THAT IS CAUSING ALL YOUR PROBLEMS
|
| Re: 2007 Ford Focus. (Station Wagon): Do You Know About This Car? by Sirk2018: 1:47pm On Nov 05, 2025 |
It's an electric throttle issue. You have probably removed the battery terminals recently. Start the car , allow it to iddle to optimal temperature. Leave the transmission in Neutral and allow to idle for at least 7minute. The ECU will reset and the car becomes normal. Avoid unnecessary removal of battery terminals. |
| Re: 2007 Ford Focus. (Station Wagon): Do You Know About This Car? by 3Ceagle(m): 1:49pm On Nov 05, 2025 |
DanXTech:This is definitely vacuum system issue. Check 1. Idle control valve, 2 throttle Head and finally all the vacuum lines. Pay particular interest on the vacuum lines, check for broken or damaged parts on the tubes and lines which could have been introducing unmetered air into the system. |

We used this car (Ford Focus) wagon in my former office and it didn't give issues except when it was parked for so long without being driven. After a long time of not being driven, we discovered some electrical issues caused by the rodents around where it was parked. The Rewire did justice to it and it became up and running. We used to get the parts in Ojuelegba, Lagos. That's the epicenter for all Ford vehicle parts in Lagos. It's a very rugged car! |
