Sannisege:Do you mind these people, they want to eat their cake and still have it, most people that are complaining here ask them are they paying their tax except for the civil servants whose tax are deducted from the source. The most important thing we must hold government to is accountability,if they are collecting taxes let see what they are using it for. The America and western world we are praising and running to for good social amenities are not plugging the money from the trees it's mostly from the taxes being paid by the citizens. |

Fujiyama:It is true. Thirty-one states have no contribution to the federal budget and depend entirely on FAAC for their survival. Yet, these states are borrowing money to build conference centres, airports, and flyovers instead of investing in education and healthcare to develop skilled workers and industrial parks to attract investment. Why do you think Bua is investing in a new refinery in Awka Ibom when there are options in other states? |

Sannisege:In your wildest dream the taxing is to better Nigeria and make it look like America . The taxing is to fund elections and loot. Not to better the country |

sulaak:^^^ There is strong demand by Nigerians for private education (after leadership failure has all but destroyed the public education system). That challenges your assertion that Nigerians want good schools but don't want to pay for them. Its more complex when it comes to roads (because of their nature) but the evidence clearly suggests that Nigerians are willing pay for good roads. sulaak:^^^ No. This isn't the time or place for the usual back and forth about Lagos. Yes, it may be in a better position (financially) than nearly all other states but it is still an urban hellhole. sulaak:^^^ ![]() Hope you are never put in the position where you need to pay ransom for a kidnapped relative or close friend. You don't want to experience it, trust me. |

Guestmale:^^^ Very good. The accountability you speak of isn't an abstract concept. You talked about seeing what the taxes are being used for, right? The Tinubu administration is required by legislation to issue budget implementation reports to Nigerians on a quarterly (or is it every four months?) basis. The last time the BAT administration complied with this rule was in early 2024. What does that tell you about how BAT views accountability? At the click of a computer mouse button, I can see the tax returns or statement of net worth of nearly all prior US presidents (those still alive at least). Yet I cannot do the same for BAT. See how it gets difficult to make accountability a real thing? |

Watianoengineer:Taxation is not our problem. Afterall we go to developed countries and pay their taxes. But Taxation is only in order when govt is efficient in enabling a productive economy. By providing basic infrastructures. You should not over tax a poor population. People will say the uk taxes alot but they also do alot for their citizens. If nig govt wants to tax us like UK, they should do what uk govt does for its citizens. Stable electricity Good roads Access to free basic education Access to good public healthcare Efficient court/justice system Security All the above are not rocket science. If they provide just 70% of the above, we will be too busy being productive than to complain about Taxation. You may argue that they need tax money in order to provide these things. But they have been taking loans upon loans in the name of infrastructure, if they are not siphoning the loans, that's more than enough for infrastructural transformation. |

Sannisege:The question I have for you is this: why is importer fuel cheaper than dangotes locally produced fuel. Cost of operation is too high in nigeria due to infrastructural deficits. Locally produced goods should not be costlier than imported. And we will pay tax in nigeria when we begin to see transformation across the board. I said across the board. Meaning when we start seeing standard govt hospitals and good govt schools in the local communities. No be to dey use 10b building road of 2b dey use style steal money |

Fujiyama:Private education has always been a prevalent option in Nigeria. I went to a private primary school in the 1970s. The fact that Nigeria's public education has deteriorated is due to government corruption and a lack of funding. Nigerians forget that the currency and national income (both foreign exchange and local currency) are dependent on oil exports, and if the value of Nigeria's oil export deteriorates and the cost of imports increases, Nigeria will have to depend on debt and diminished oil revenue to fund services at both the state and federal levels. There must be some level of taxation to reduce dependency on oil and debt. Lagos has become a hellhole due to the overpopulation within Lagos, a City designed for 1 million people, now has a population of 24 million. I support the Lagos state action on destroying illegal structures across the state. The mass migration to Lagos is unsustainable; people are not moving to Lagos for its social services, but rather because their home states are unsafe, and Lagos is the most viable option in Nigeria due to its large population. Lagos' economic vitality is due to the Lagos State government's ability to collect taxes to fund infrastructure programmes, independent of federal government funding. In 1991, when the Federal Government relocated to Abuja, we all thought we would have some respite from the population burden; instead, the streets are now a marketplace. FESTAC, which was once a beautiful town, is now a ghetto due to overpopulation. There has been a suggestion for state police, but many state governments and Nigerians are against it because they believe it will be used to victimise them. The federal government is limited in its capacity and resources. Armed state police will be the first line of support for banditry. Nigeria must accept that the federal system of government requires that the state governors must be the Chief Security Officer responsible for state security; the other option is for Nigeria to return to regional government (My preference) |

realG101:This is why the imported fuel is cheaper, and the Importers cannot stop; they have taken loans from both Vitol and Trafigura to supply dirty fuel to desperate Nigerians because of the incompetence and corruption of Nigeria's oil regulators ,include the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) for the upstream sector, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) In the energy industry, the cheapest, dirtiest petrol is referred to as “African quality”. This type of petrol, laced with high levels of toxic substances, is banned in Europe. |

Stop comparing Nigeria with those countries like UK , USA etc where their leaders can be held accountable. Their leader don't have private jets like Nigeria rulers and politicians. Nothing works in Nigeria because Nigeria is fantastically corrupt from head to bottom. Stop leaving in self denial. Tayorshd87: |
