The information is not publicly available; it was received from other applicants who were contacted by the embassy and given an interview date. The embassy release this information to applicants every Friday. There are other platforms where similar updates are shared, and I think it’s best to post it here as well so that others can stay informed about what’s happening.

Good evening, everyone. Please, I have a question regarding change of name. I applied for family reunion using my maiden surname, which is the name on the passport I used for the application. However, I have now changed my surname to my husband’s name.

Do you think it’s advisable to obtain a new international passport bearing my current (married) name, even though my present passport is still valid for another 20 months? Also, can the visa be issued in my new name if I submit the new passport?
I had the same dilemma but when I went for my interview just last month ending, the VO said it’s totally up to me to change my passport to my legal name if I choose to.. He didn’t collect my change of name affidavit and newspaper publication cos my passport still bears my maiden name so he Said if I decide to get a new passport bearing my legal name, I should send the data page and the change of name affidavit etc via email to the embassy
Yeah, I applied June 30th 2023, got appointment Aug 2025....
Got my visa today after much stress of bringing this and that document....

Pls take note oh. When asked to bring insurance, it is d number of months ur insurance is valid that u will be given visa.
For eg... U submit 3 months insurance u get 3 months family reunion visa, same for 6 months.
And if per adventure u submitted 3 months insurance, don't panic. So long as u are given family reunion visa u are okay. Just make sure u go apply for ur residence permit when u get into germany cos it takes approximately 6 to 8 weeks to get an appointment. So u still can extend ur visa validity no stress.
Thanx.

Massive Congratulations…
That was very fast oh, so they didn’t send lawyers to you for the document verification process?

Hello everyone.

Got my visa and have since arrived in Germany🎉

Here’s my timeline

I applied for FRV on the 6th of June 2024 when the wait was “over a year” and after the intervention of a lawyer, I got a date on the 23rd of June 2025 for July 24. (For more info on this and my interview experience, see my previous posts)

I wrote the A1 exams on 20th June

July 24: Interview

August 13: Contacted by consulate for more info ie newspaper publication for change of name, more old documents + photos and chat history w my husband (I provided a name change affidavit during the interview but my maiden name was still on my passport)

August 18: Husband was contacted for financial info by the Standesamt/Auslandbehörde (can’t remember which one)

August 21: Sent documents

August 22: Contacted by consulate and asked to change my name on my passport, was given till October 15 to submit.

September 15: Sent the new passport

October 13: Contacted by consulate to send incoming insurance via email (they already had my new passport)

October 14: Sent incoming insurance + intended travel date

October 16: Contacted by DHL but I was on holiday so delivery was held till October 24

October 24: Received passport + documents

October 31: Ich hab nach Deutschland geflogen

No lawyer verification and I’m thankful that the process was mostly seamless for me, wishing you all good luck

Is your spouse on Blue Card?

I dont know why they keep such information which IS vital to diffenciate the processs.apart from celebrimor her WHO when asked Made the Mention, Others If U ASK the ignore u..

Like IS IT that they dont know that some FRV Go through lawyer verification and all that ...while Blue Card receives a waiver... The distinction needs to be for the Sake ON those ON norma FRV Not Blue Card..

Hi everyone!
How do you respond to intended duration of stay in Germany for family reunification if the intention was for a while?? Will it be possible to apply again for the same visa after the elapse of the approval of the intended stay on the application form. Who is most suitable for referee for the reference section on the application visa reunification form? Can anyone be used as a referee??

Good morning, everyone.

Please, for those who have done change of name and needed to change their maiden name to their husband’s surname on the passport, does the new passport have two passport numbers (the number of the previous passport and the number of the new one), or just one passport number (an entirely new number for the new passport)?

Please, i will really appreciate your response🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Does this mean you were asked to change your passport to show your new name since there was a change of name by marriage??

Good day everyone,

Please, is it mandatory to do change of name as a woman for the family reunion visa?
Should a woman going to meet her spouse have to change her surname to her husband surname for the family reunion visa? Is it mandatory if she intended not to change her name?
Re: General German Work And Family Re-union Visa Enquiries by NnukwuAda: 2:16pm On Nov 15, 2025
Good day, everyone.

I changed my surname from my maiden name to my husband’s surname two months before taking the Goethe A1 exam. However, I registered for the exam with my maiden surname because that was the name on my international passport at the time. I am now in the process of obtaining a new passport with my husband’s surname.

Do you think the earlier name change affects the validity of the Goethe certificate, which was issued in my maiden name? Since the certificate was issued three months after the name change, will it still be valid? Should I swear a new affidavit with a more recent date to avoid any issues?

I will really appreciate your response 🙏

Hi everyone, I got to Germany on a student visa earlier this year and my fiancee applied for a family reunion appointment date in March (since it takes time, we were hoping we would have gotten married before she got called). Unfortunately, I can not go to Nigeria until March next year for the wedding. We are hoping she is not called for the interview before then. Is there anything we can do? Should she apply for another date?

Thank you
