While I agree that protecting local refineries is important, what happens if the Dangote refinery breaks down, requires repairs, or faces supply disruptions? A proactive government should maintain strategic reserves of PMS, aviation fuel, diesel, and other essential fuels—stored in silos or depots—sufficient to last at least six months to a year. You won’t want supply disruption around election year, so work with NNPC to build strategic reserves across Nigeria.

You lack knowledge on economics. You want Dollar to come down while you still want to continue importing what you can produce locally. That's the way we killed local industries and promote foreign products. Do you know why Trump imposing tariff on many products importing to US? US is the largest importer in the world and by placing or increasing import tariff this will discouraged importers and stick to local products

The tariff was put in place to protect Dangote's refinery. Otedola is just pitching in for his friend Dangote and also his interest because he also invested in the Dangote refinery. If you care to want to know and understand |nvestinq in Nigeria (even if you are beginner) and you want to understand Nigeria current economy situation or want to know if your money is safe in Nigeria banks or how to make it work for you.

Read my Newsletter down below, I have a YTube chanel explaining all these.👇

Why is imported fuel cheaper than the one refined in Nigeria?

Who will control 🛂 Dangote because once his is the only one in the market and no one to compete with is only God knows how people can afford to buy his fuel in feature time 😞
Except he has been caution not to increase fuel ⛽ price

This one that doesn't know more than to support BAT and let his daughters squander his wealth.
Obasanjo needs to tell us why he made one man the sole importer of Diesel into the country.
Re: 15% Import Tariff: Femi Otedola Praises President Tinubu by themanderon: 7:16am On Nov 04, 2025
Of course, it's natural that he will praise him. These are the people who made their wealth by squeezing Nigerians to death. We are locally refining crude, but petrol is now far more expensive than when we were importing, so who is fooling whom?
You can never understand this country. Libya, which has been at war for decades, sells fuel at about 50 naira per liter, but here, where we supposedly have peace, the price keeps jolting up and is not coming down because the cartels want it to remain so.

If the fuel from the Dangote refinery were cheaper, tell me why will marketers buy from importers?
This move is to give Dangote refinery complete 100% monopoly over the petrol market in Nigeria. Dangote is not a government-owned refinery. It is a private investment. Otedola, an investor in the refinery is praising the policy because it favours him not the masses.

He has plenty of sense to make a lot of money from the pain and suffering of the masses.

He doesn’t care if people are still waiting for Tinubu to do what he promised in January 2023!

Deltafirstson:
Although the pump price of fuel was N197 when President Bola Tinubu took over on May 29, 2023, the product now sells for N617 per litre – less than two months after.

In his inaugural address, Tinubu announced that subsidy was gone, fulfilling a promise that all leading presidential candidates made during the campaign.

Nigerians have been lamenting the hardship occasioned by fuel price hike. Amid the lamentation, a video where Tinubu campaigned to slash the price of fuel went into circulation.

Checks by Daily Trust affirmed the authenticity of the video uploaded on the YouTube page of Channels Television.

At his campaign rally in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on January 25, 2023, Tinubu spoke on a number of issues, but those of fuel scarcity and naira redesign made the headlines.

However, Tinubu who spoke in Yoruba language, also assured the crowd that though people were saying petrol price would hit N200, it would be reviewed downward under him.

“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200 per litre. Go and relax, we will bring it down,” he had said in the 7th minute of the video.

In your very small mind, you think the politicians who have stashed their loot in foreign currencies worldwide would want the dollar to come downhuh Think again. If they were really interested in the dollar coming down, why didn't they invest their loot here? It's your type that would support banning the importation of foreign rice without knowing that those who ban it don't eat local rice in their house. No wonder it's so easy for politicians to keep manipulating and fooling Nigerians.

Exactly if the cars from Innoson was cheaper why should Nigerian be buyung elsewhere or buyung Tokunbo.

What is it with this petrol import addiction despite having a refinery and removing subsidy!
There is no competition for dangote yet. Unless you want him to monopolize the refinery like he did with cement and dictating the price for everyone.
Re: 15% Import Tariff: Femi Otedola Praises President Tinubu by Alaigbo(m): 7:35am On Nov 04, 2025
Every single person against the import tariff is from the East n Delta n maybe some deluded PDP. They know exactly what they are doing n it is all out of hate for Tinubu Yoruba n Apc, nothing else.

If you doubt me let them support removing import duties on cars since their argument is Nigerians will buy wherever it is cheaper, so we can see how well Innoson will do without govt backing sebi dem say govt no support them.

They will never support it bcosbtheir tribesmen Innoson is the only one in Nigeria enjoying the import tariff on cars.

How is Tax imposition that will hike up the cost of living and cost operation suppose to bring development

Nigeria is a country of low income earners over 80% per cent are under the poverty, I hate it when govt make it seems the only way to development is punish the people with heavy taxes

Govt can support industrialization in many ways without Tax Tax, its ridiculous to say tax is the only way,
WHY not creat an MoU to guaranteee discounted crude price to local refinery ...

Govt can come with regulation to prioritize local refinery supply over imported into percentage

These is the same harvard dropout policy they implemented on rice, close boarder, increase import dury claiming they want to promote Rice Farmers, 9yrs down the line .have we stop importing Rice

Dangote cant meet out total demand for now,you cant possibly dissuade import ahead until we are sure of adequacy on local ground

Govt is stil giving licenses to marketers, nnpc still import and CBN is giving forex to marketers that a govt that want to dissuade "Import" Tinubu is just taken Nigerian for a ride

For now we have only ONE refinery, such Tax policy is almost to promote Monopoly, the next local refinery cant come up in the next 1yr
Tax marketers 30% they will still import fuel, cos the burden automatically goes to end consumer to pay....

Says by a major shareholder in the dangote refinary.
For your information, most of these so called oil mogules are all parts of the dangote refinary ownerships .
In a saner economic world, are they all not supposed to be competing? Imagine all of them going on a constant visit to the refinery when it was still under construction, doesn't that tells you alot of what's happening in the country?.
This kontri is officially dead, killed by the so called defenders of the CURRUPT politicians. Consciously defending lies without conscience just because of monthly stipends
What is wrong being a shareholder. Did anyone stop you from investing or joining hands to build something. I don't just understand you all, he invested. You don't want him to reap from his sowing. Yet you want God to prosper you. Y'all shouting consumption to production yet this is our own, you don't support it. At this point I think you all are bitter your Messiah is not there, not about the good works.

Why won't you support the drug baron because you're part of his cabal who are milking this country dry and placing untold hardship and agony on Nigerians. That 15% tarrif will make petroleum products skyrocket and also cause more inflation and an unstable economy. Make the country better before implenting unwanted tarrifs.
You just lost my respect Otedola

My only fear is Tinubu may have probably done this to create 7% tax on local refineries products, we don’t need tax on locally refined petroleum products
