Nobody intimidates or demolishes anybody's house because he is Ohu. They just can't hold traditional Chieftaincy and other traditional rites that's all. It's different from what is happening in Lagos
It is even worse. Because in Lagos you only destroy property, while in ohu/osu you destroy someone's spirit. Igbos don't commit suicide because of property but do becsuse of osu!

Our blothers still live in the stone age in 2025,

How about people who prostrate to descendants of people who killed and subjugated their forefathers, and crown them and their descendants "king" forever?!

The day my dad was like "See that place where those beautiful women are coming out from, they are ohu and we can't inter marry", was the day I knew I might disappoint him one day.

Osu is a relic from the old religion.
As long as they are Christians, they are our brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus.
That's the amazing thing - you will see firebrand Christians who carry am for head - but when it comes to their child marrying osu/ohu they become wimps!

Flangelo12:
They can't marry non-Osu.

Clearly, they would not be voted in an election.

I'm pretty sure they cannot own certain lands.
Yet non-osu/ohu will go to other lands like US and proudly and happily marry people who were truly slaves!

Same people who cry Yorubas hate them, when they don't even love themselves grin grin
Na wa. But Yorubas also prostrate to (criminal) descendants of people who killed and subjugated their forefathers, and crown them and their descendants "kings" forever!
Which is worse?

That's a mind set!
Better grow up!
The Osu of a thing is as stupid as those who initiated it.
It is EXTREMELY stupid indeed. But he has a point.
Only legislation with serious consequences will abolish it

How do they keep track of the families with ohu lineage? How accurate is the labelling?
Especially in this age of japa. But like anything, it boils down to what people believe to be true.

Your state? Why can't Nigeria copy from US that whatever state you're born is where you're from?? I mean, we copied everything else!

Hope it works. Igbos should come together as a nation and abolish the Osu or Ohu (is there a difference?) system.
I wrote a thesis on this caste system in Igbo land during my University years and interviewd some traditional rulers and elders in many towns and villages in Enugu and Imo state and I can authoritatively tell you that Ohu and Osu are not the same.
Ohu is a common slave owned by a person or a family and the offsprings automatically inherits it, while Osu is one owed by or betrothed to the gods of the land.

Interestingly, most of these Osu being freeborns, willingly consecrated themselves to the gods so as to avoid punishment for a crime commited, like murder etc, thereby becoming immune to prosecution as no one dares touch what belongs to the gods. The person is now under a convenant with the god and is being protected by it.
This is usually done via a blood covenant and the person in question and his/her offsprings becomes the property of the God he/she has sold their soul to forever. Hence the freeborns tag them as Osu.

Ohu, which is a slave owned by a freeborn can be undone. It only takes the master to give his word and he/she becomes free. Reason this community can easily set them free to become equal and freeborns. It is commendable.

The Osu which involves a blood convenant cannot be undone easily. Reason being that the ancestors who entered the convenant with the gods has all passed on and a blood convenant can only be broken by them and not the offsprings.

If you marry one, automatically you become one. No two ways about it. They are often blessed with immense riches by the gods, but then they mostly die mysteriously and untimely.

This can only happen in the yeast, as for me and my family in my region there is nothing like ,OSU so I can marry whoever I like. those people who still believe in this Osu system are the worse people on earth.

Dont mind them bunch of tribalist hypocrites.
Who did this thing to Igbos??

Thanks for your erudite and in-depth answer to my question.
I think you are wrong about it being easy to abolish though. Check back on this Oguta in a few years and you'll not see intermarriage. I think government should make a law

Ohu is not even that serious as it is not that common and not visible any longer. One can easily inter marry with them.

Osu is more serious. They never mentioned it, only the Ohu caste system.

Even the church could not eradicate it (Osu) as some things are better left as it is.

Oguta is Charley boy’s hometown

You would have thought he would have fought against this in his hometown

rather than fighting over a Bus stop in Lagos that was never supposed to have been named

after him

The Osu people have spoken and they absolutely hated how the system treated them worse than Lepers.

Worse than lepers because the Children of Lepers didn’t inherit their Condition and leprosy can be cured

the children of the Osu did inherit the Osu Caste and it was an incurable situation
