• MD-11 plane: A UPS freight plane crashed shortly after taking off from the Louisville, Kentucky, airport Tuesday, leaving a fiery trail of destruction and a massive plume of thick black smoke that stretched for miles.

• Reported fatalities and injuries: At least seven people have died and 11 were injured, Gov. Andy Beshear said Tuesday, warning the numbers could climb as the investigation continues. The Louisville mayor said the three crew members on board the plane are presumed dead and four of the people confirmed dead were not on the plane.

• Fire caused by crash nearly contained: Hundreds of firefighters have nearly contained the fire spreading over “a massive area” and are working to “create a formal grid” to search for potential victims, fire officials said Tuesday night.

• Crash investigation: The NTSB will lead the probe into the crash, the FAA said Tuesday. A team of at least 28 people is scheduled to arrive in Kentucky Wednesday, an airport official said.

Crash sparked explosions at petroleum recycling facility

The freight plane touched off “secondary explosions” at a petroleum recycling facility in the area where it crashed, the Louisville fire chief said.

“There are some storage tanks there that have propane and oil. Some of those have ruptured. You might have heard there were some secondary explosions … some of that were small tanks,” Chief Brian O’Neill said.

The chief noted some of what might have sounded like explosions were actually relief valves releasing pressure as they’re designed to do.

“It can sound very scary, but that’s a good thing. That means the relief valve worked, and it didn’t actually explode,” O’Neill said.

Earlier Gov. Andy Beshear said the facility, Kentucky Petroleum Recycling, appeared to have been “hit pretty directly.”

O’Neill stressed the fire from the crash is “controlled and contained” but the area around the facility is “still going to be a mess … because of the fuel leaks and the oil.”

“We’ll be there for a while handling that scene,” he said.

Let's assume this is happening in Nigeria. So far it is always US, everything is perfectly normal. In fact, any country that does not have this huge number of crash incident is not a serious nation.

If Trump does not immidiately swing into action to curb the increasing rate of life lost from airplane mishaps, Nigeria will have no choice but to come into that now disgraced country to save lives that Trump has sworn to protect. We will not fold our hands and let this happen again.
