IKENNE, OGUN STATE – In a stunning development for the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL), Daniel Ogunmodede, the coach who led Remo Stars to their historic 2024/2025 NPFL title, has announced he will no longer continue as the club’s manager, effective immediately.

Sources close to the club indicate that a growing conflict between his duties as Remo Stars Head Coach and his role as the Assistant Manager for the Super Eagles has been a major point of friction.

His national team commitments have often required him to miss crucial club games, including a significant part of the pre-season campaign, a factor that ultimately became unsustainable for the club’s executives.

Legacy Secured, Focus Shifts

Daniel Ogunmodede, affectionately known as ‘Ijaball’ for his sleek, possession-based philosophy, achieved legendary status by guiding Remo Stars to their first-ever major trophy—the 2024/2025 NPFL title—a monumental feat for the club and the entire Southwest region of Nigeria.

While his time on the sidelines at Ikenne is over, his focus will now fully shift to his responsibilities with the Nigerian national team, particularly ahead of the upcoming AFCON in Morocco in early 2026.

2. Professionally he is top notch.

UEFA A license UEFA B license and CAF B license. Also already coached in Portugal as an assistant manager. All at the age of 45.

Sometimes we find it difficult to manage success, especially when gotten as a newbie. Most times ego takes over and the hardwork put up to get it diminishes.
It happens to players as a group and as individuals.....

he is good and hard-working, but nobody is self made. Maybe you forgot that kunle Soname sent him to his club in Portugal, fairense, to go and under study their coaching set up for a year and the mgt of Remo help in no small way in equipping with some of those licences he has today.

Great things are happening in our national league, such that privately owned and for profit clubs like Remo are exploiting the socioeconomic benefits.

If only Enugu, Oyo, Rivers, Edo and other states could privatise their legacy clubs, we would have the same kind of exponential success as Nollywood and afrobeat music. The two entertainment industries have had little to no government involvement in their development of the past few years.
