LAMATA Hands Over New EKEDC Office Complex, Fulfilling Blue Line Compensation Promise

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) today marked a major infrastructure milestone with the formal handover of a newly completed office complex to the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC).

The ceremony highlights the state government's commitment to responsible development, strategic partnership, and infrastructural renewal in Lagos State.

The new building was constructed to replace the former EKEDC facility, which was removed to pave the way for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line.

During the ceremony, the Managing Director of LAMATA, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo represented by the Technical Adviser, Public Transport Rail, Engr. Olasunkanmi Okusaga stated that the handover serves as a fulfillment of the promise by the Lagos State Government, through LAMATA, to ensure that stakeholders affected by the ambitious Blue Line project were adequately compensated and supported.

The newly constructed edifice is a testament to that commitment. The modern office complex comprises 43 functional offices, six spacious halls, 18 well-fitted toilets, and a generator house, all designed to meet EKEDC's operational needs and enhance service delivery to the people of Lagos State.

LAMATA expressed deep appreciation to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, whose visionary leadership continues to drive infrastructural renewal and ensures development is carried out with compassion and strategic foresight.

Gratitude was also extended to the Lagos State House of Assembly, ably led by the Rt. Hon. Dr. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, for their consistent legislative backing and oversight necessary for the smooth execution of such projects.

The management of EKEDC led by Mrs Rekhiat Momoh was thankful to the state government for fulfilling their promise.

The handover signifies more than the completion of a building; it represents partnership, continuity, and the unwavering determination to build a better, more functional Lagos.

The Managing Director of Ebun Links Engineering Limited, Engr. John Laoye expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government, LAMATA and EKEDC for their cooperation and support to achieve the prompt delivery of the complex.

This is one of the things I normally say about the Lagos State Government, Most people don’t know the “sacrifices” the State had to make for the Rail Projects you see today, Imagine building a new office complex for EKEDC, In Mushin, we rebuilt a new school which was affected by the Red Line Rail, We also removed the very old NRC Staff quarters in Ikeja and rebuilt a beautiful one for them and relocated it to Agege, Before starting construction at all, Compensation was done for so many people. Sometimes, It’s not just about ‘money’, it’s the AUDACITY. @jidesanwoolu

Gbolahan @iamgbolahan

Here’s a quick look at some of the relocation and compensation efforts that made the Red Line Rail Project possible:

📸 Image 1: The newly built primary school (top) vs the old structure it replaced.

📸 Image 2: The new NRC staff quarters (top) compared to the old one removed in Ikeja.

📸 Image 3: The newly constructed NRC quarters now located in Agege.

Beyond infrastructure, the Lagos State Government also ensured compensation was paid to both landlords and tenants affected by the project.

Sometimes, progress truly requires audacity backed with responsibility. 🚆💪🏽

Your states are by no means rich.
Lagos budget is 2.2 billion dollars...which is not enough for a city its size.(For comparison, a hospital in Kansas paid 1billion dollars for an expansion of its facilites. Harvard budget is 6 billion dollars for one year).

Nigeria is not rich...revenue from 1.5 m bpd is not going to be enough for even one state to live like in saner climes.

That is why APC Is useless.

They're not going to rebuild because they belong to Igbo.

Is that what you have in mind?

I've helped you to say it out. 😊

They should not forget to remind law abiding citizens that there is NO compensation for illegal structures in compliance with global and traditional standards.

Your lagos, indeed no city in Nigeria, has a budget like say London, tokyo or new york or paris that can run into tens of trillions of naira.

Also, EKEDC is running a loss because most lagosians don't pay cost reflective tarrifs...so how will they afford modernity.?

And why does it matter whatever "they" choose to call it? How are "they" relevant here?

When you know this why do you compare here and there? Why do you condemn just because we lived a fake subsidized life pretending to be rich when we are a poor nation. Why are you not in support of someone that said: gentlemen we can't continue this fake and borrowed display. Let's strip ourselves of all these fake life, owe up to the truth, make sacrifices and work towards what we ought to be?

@Topic.
Lagos is always moving forward and recording consolidated progress year on year.

This is a good and expected development because Lagos is now a stakeholder in EKEDC meaning there must be synergy of support, geared towards aiding efficiency, between both. Kudos to Eko. 👏🏽👏🏽

Truth also is that in 2015, APC promised diversificaiton and by extension profitability...which hasn't happened.

Yes, Nigeria is a poor country, but we can't keep on saying that. Something's got to give

What's the sacrifice here? How does the govt following the law- compensating those that have given up their land/buildings for development?
It's the universal obligation of govt! It's not a favour or sacrifice, Mr Jag should know that
