If light can be like this all over the country it would be a big achievement. Someday it's 24hrs even they seize the light 5mins it's back unless something happens to the transformer or main feeder that worse a day light is back.

It's the facts my area in lag light is 100% constant. If they can achieve 80% constant light like this all over the country, it's a big achievement.

Most Nigerians don't get that power has been privatized.

Low revenue.

Has nothing to do with federal government. DISCOS can't earn enough revenue because at the end of the day, they don't earn enough cash....because only 20% of customers...band A ...pay cost reflective tarrifs. Of the rest, many bypass their meters, or pay below the cost reflective tarrif.

That means discos don't earn enough cash for even salaries...so sacking of workers.

Blame Nigerians...harsh, but true

Before you shout at me, let's say you own a shop. 20% OF your customers are paying you, the rest refuse to pay or underpay you. You also have five employees. How do you pay them, since una dey lose money.?
Re: Abuja Electricity: AEDC Sacks 800 Workers Amid Power Sector Crisis by kenmaro: 11:52am On Nov 07, 2025
They should keep quiet, there's no revenue shortfalls. Rather, it's mismanagement and misappropriation of excessive revenue. The electricity sector is currently a gold mine in Nigeria courtesy of excessive segmented band billings.

Has nothing to with the government, been that way since 2013. Any one who has been ministar of power has nothing much to do since discos and gencos got privatised.

Transmission is not private, but since revenue for transmission comes partly from the discos, and the discos are earning low amounts due to power theft and underpayment by consumers, wahala dey

Tinubu could make everyone pay cost reflective tarrifs, but una no want...because y'all will shout poverty.

Okay, let's explain revenue shortfalls

1.Less than 20% of consumers are on band A...these are the ones that pay cost reflective tarrifs...ie tarrifs where the discos can make a profit. Most don't pay that much, because government subsidises them, but subsides are not sufficent even when paid.

2.60% of metered customers bypass their meters. IN other words power theft.

3. Also a majority of people on estimated billing either underpay or do not pay for their power . You can have someone who has used say N10000 worthof power and decides to pay N2000

All the above adds up to losses...and even more losses.

4. Yes the discos made a prifit of nearly N1 trillion naira...but the real koko...is that discos need to make at least 15-20 trillion naira or attract investments in like amount to make enough to fix power. Yearly . for the next 10 years.

Investments are not coming because of no 1-3 above. Investor wants to see ROI...not losses.

I keep suspecting that Nigerians, especially those who comment on this site, have a bipolar personality issue.

On one hand, you say "Privatize for better efficiency". Then, you now say, "But don't sack people who you find out later are the inefficient ones".

On one hand you say, "Deploy better technology, like Ai". Then you turn around and say, "Don't sack the people who become redundant once that better technology is put in place".

Like what does an average Nigerian want really?

#my confusion is confused#

I can't believe you really took the time to correct this person.

Wow. Just wow.

Kudos for your good heart.

No kudos for not spending your time in the right place though.

Lol.

And I really do applaud your intelligence.

This is not an FG layoff please. Discos are private companies and I honestly think that many of them are over-staffed. Distribution companies do not need the present number of employees that they carry.

As privately owned entities many of them require critical personnel audit to evaluate their personnel needs. If they are over-staffed they will pass on the cost of this inefficiency on to their customers.

Can't the power companies device a means of tracking these people that are bypassing their prepaid meters?

They do, but anytime they send someone to rectify the issue, their workers are assaulted or threatened.

@bold Tinubu can pay those money via oil drilling per day, normal we as citizens should be paying less tax because we natural resources we can sell and use the money to pay for entity in the country. In fact with all the tax I pay every month 8 get nothing in return, if today I should send my boy to the hospital I will pay, if I send him to school I will pay, bro I'm not getting anything in return walai cry cry

It's annoying when I see people bypass meters. You know the funniest thing, it's the NEPA guys who help people to bypass.

If they're really serious they can go with armed officers and make arrests. By the time they parade some people on national TV for electricity theft, others would take dressing.

Such a large workforce must have many "do nothings" ... hopefully ...those are the ones laid off and most likely will not affect operations. What I don't agree with is the sudden layoff without at least a month's severance pay. I can understand the sudden layoff and lock out ... to prevent sabotage but not giving those workers time to find other employment to maintain to cash flow.for their living expenses.

About less than 30% of eligible Nigerians pay tax, plus oil revenue comes from 1.5 m bpd which is too low for revenue generation unless oil prices are above 150 dollars per barrel.

Selling other resources may help, but we don't set their prices.

Where is tinubu?
Is he not going to say anything?
Or is he and his supporters waiting for Peter Obi to do his job for him?
If that's the case, then he's clueless.
So he's telling us he was not ready for the job, yet he went and stole Obi's mandate.
Karma is indeed, a beetch.
