Even if you never pay rent since 1960 — your landlord NO GET RIGHT to:
Shout for your head
Threaten you
Lock your door or throw your load outside
Cut your light or water

All that one na SELF-HELP — and guess what?
E dey ILLEGAL!
If he tries it, he fit land for wahala — even prison join.

The law talk say if you owe rent, landlord no go use muscle.
He must follow due process:
Give you proper Quit Notice
Serve all other legal papers
Go court to get permission to collect him house

Until court talk otherwise, that house still be your legal home!

He is right. Resorting to self help is illegal, but majority of house owners would rather take the law into their hands here in Nigeria. Even if the tenant refuses to pay, you can still recover your premises from him and sue him for the arrears of rent owed.

Na court bring you to come rent my house? You no go pay for your house rent for six months or one year and you feel confortably going out and coming in everyday....Na rain go wash you you away by the time I removed the roof over your head..

Wat if the owner took some loan from a micro finance home and expecting to pay back with interest, u go cone dey talk of arears, after he must have billed heavily for failing to meet up with the due date.

Oga make una dey leave all these talks. Tenants should pay their rent as ar wen due, if there is an increment and it doesn't sit well with them, they can use the exit door and try somewhere else. U no come dey stubborn to me for my own house, e no work.

Only the curse wey the landlord go place on that tenant ehn, his life will never remain the same.

No go dey drag right for another man thing. Ur kids go to schools and wen the fees are increased, its either u pay or u pull ur kids from the school, so how house own come dey give una sleepless night?

Who even obeys court orders in nigeria anymore?

Even the government sef no regard court orders.

My advice for every tenant is to always obey and respect the rules and regulations of your landlord.

This one na charge and bail. Nothing you fit tell me.

At some point everyone will need to build their houses or rent houses from govt or court so that they can live free without the wahala of individuals as their Landlord
