INEC Affirms Damagum As PDP National Chairman, Sends Monitors Ekiti Primaries by kcmichael(op): 2:50pm On Nov 10, 2025
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum as the legitimate and constitutionally recognized National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This comes as INEC officially dismissed the purported elevation of Abdulrahman Mohammed as Acting National Chairman by a faction of the party loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

In a move signaling institutional clarity, INEC confirmed that it recognizes the Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC), which currently enjoys the support of 14 out of 17 members. The commission also deployed its monitoring and observer teams to Ado-Ekiti to supervise the ongoing PDP governorship primaries in Ekiti State.

According to INEC sources, the commission’s decision followed a formal correspondence from the Damagum-led PDP leadership notifying it of the primary election. Acting on the letter, INEC dispatched its monitoring officers to ensure transparency, credibility, and compliance with electoral guidelines.

This latest development effectively quells internal controversies within the PDP over leadership legitimacy, particularly as the party braces for a decisive governorship contest in Ekiti ahead of the 2026 election.

Observers say the decision could reshape internal power dynamics within the opposition party, setting the tone for renewed political maneuvering ahead of the general Election

I see wike allocating lands and doling cash to the judges in Abuja. I also see him filing backyard injunctions at Omotosho and other compromised judges court. He is yet to speak directly to the press or thru his leprous mouth piece, Lere, on this matter because his heart is still heavy from this inec sucker punch. I see him babbling later today to feign relevance. However, he will speak out loud later after assurances from his coterie of compromised judges.

The Wike's faction and Damagum faction would be working at cross path in the Ekiti state election.

The winner of the Ekiti state primary would be the next PDP governorship candidate in the state.

It would be interesting to see how the both factions would handle the election.

Good luck to them all

There is nothing like damaging faction

There is no faction in PDP

Damagun is the PDP chairman

No faction anywhere

have you to tried to engage in a task and you keep getting distracted by someone or issues? Be discerning enough to know that just by distracting you your enemy has accomplished his task. So it is a simple mind that thinks this means Wike lost. If my mission is to distract you and i suceeded in distracting you, i have accomplished my mission. imagine how much progress PDp would have made in other matters in they werent devoting energy to this matter?

Try and be a bit more discerning and know when dogs are barking to distract you or else in your personal life you wont acheive your goals.

they say do not respond to every dog that bark or you will never reach your destination. Wike's job was to bark..he has accomplished his mission. he will continue barking not because he thinks he can defeat them but because he knows every distraction keeps them from acheiving their goal.

Many of you are very ignorant, you let media deceive you a lot. Every court cases will be determined by the court not INEC. After the convention, the real battle begins, I only feel sorry for those who will end up being the losers after spending money on delegates. All the loans Makinde is borrowing to settle PDP members, it will choke them by the time his tenure ended as Governor and there's no more money for them anymore.

Instead of getting clearance from appropriate court they are relying on inec recognition and efforts without approval of appropriate court are efforts in futility. Has appeal court vacated the order of federal high court Abuja?

the case is dead already, who is going to challenge the result of the convention, the people that initiated the case are no longer pdp members and therefore lacks the right to take pdp to court
