Do degrees really make great leaders? Or do vision, grit, and character matter more than any certificate?
From PhDs to high-school diplomas… and even some without completed degrees, the world’s most powerful decision-makers come from wildly different academic paths.
So here’s the real question: Would you choose a leader based on qualifications or performance? And where does Nigeria’s leadership fit into this global pattern? 🇳🇬

Wole Soyinka is a proof that academic qualification does not translate to proper education by its most sensible definition.

On the other hand,

Buhari was a proof that at least, a little academic involvement, if taken seriously could improve one's reasoning beyond the primitive standard of normads or herdsmen who hate books and pens.

patrickcollins:
Everybody in Nigeria pays tax directly or indirectly.
That's not true.
1.PwC put it at 16%(2016)
2.World bank put it at 30%(2019)
3.Tinubu government optimistically puts it at 44% (all percentages of the tax paying population)(last year's figures, I take them with a pinch of salt)
4.Tax to gdp ratio has gone up...from 5% to 10%, which is lower than the African average of 16%. Heck it is lower than Ghana and Niger republic, and those countries are not rich either.

Most goods and services are taxed here.
That's not true. It's only goods that you see in the supermarkets and shops that have VAT...also some resturants. Foodstuff you see in the market is not taxed...at all. No VAT. (Ask your trader if he or she adds VAT when they sell you yam or beans or meat. They would look at you with shock)

Also, VAT revenue for Nigeria as at last year ending was 6.75 trillion, which may seem like a large amount of money, until you realize that our national budget for this year was 30 trillion, which is half of what the UK spends on their police (all values in naira). It's also 4.7 billion dollars, which is approx 2/3rd of what Harvard spent as its operating expenses so far this year

IN other words, scanty.

The minimum wage is too poor for such taxation policies
FIrst off, do you live on minimum wage? I doubt.
Second, even if we take your assumption to be true, that means that you are essentially supporting tinubu's decisions to borrow. No, I am not mocking you
Government revenues for this year were expected to be based on an oil price of at least 75 dollars per barrel. Instead it is basically 63-68 dollars for most of the year, has even been as low as 58 dollars this year

Now, if you read my original comment, you will see I blame APC for not diversifying the economy. That is true. But meanwhile we need the money now , regardless of how wrong the government has been, otherwise people won't get paid, and it is not just civil servants mind.

At the end, it is either taxation....or government takes loans now (already doing so). I would like it if tinubu was removed self...but any incoming government will face the same issues. Even with fighting corruption, we still have 30 trillion for a nation of 230 billion people. That leaves us with 180000 naira per nigerian per year. (Can you live on 180000 naira for a year alone, no other source of income? ).

So, taxes, or government takes more loans (which you oppose). Diversificaiton is going to take a while..(sadly government is not serious). ANd the IMF and world bank is yelling at us that we are taking more loans (which is why subsidy went because credit scores needed some improvement for us to take loans).

If it is any comfort, most nigerian governments have had the same issue. A nation too poor to tax, so loans have to be taken. And the loans are destroying our economy.

Nigeria president is one of the most intelligent presidents on the surface of the earth .

You may hate him but that will not take away the fact that he is a guru and know how to manage both financial and human resources.

He needs more time to make things good if we are all patient .

Remember our grandparents also protested of hardship back then despite having good leaders and things were not yet bad to this extent. A dollar to naira then was as low as $1=#25 yet they called the government out for bad governance.

As a yoruba man ,i want Obi tested and you will all understand that the complaints will never stop

This means that human cant be satisfied regardless.

This leaves me to conclusion that as far as there are opposition parties, there will be gnashing of teeth and complaints/protests
Tinubu knows how to manage finances ! You're delusional

We understand your Frustration since your Party lost Elections back- to - back,in 2023 and six months ago on the BY- Pass elections around Nigeria.
Wole Soyinka no be your mate - he has paid his Due- as Activists, against the Military rules in Nigeria( not a Social Media gaulible)
He walked barefooted from Nigeria- Across To Benin-Republic with Tinubu-As NADECO Members,to evade Abacha Dictatorship.
Where were many of you then?
He ( Soyinka) will never stoop low to people like you on Social Media because of hates and gaulible audiences!

It seems some of your types are sadist1c and having obsess1on of Tinubu.

If you know what it means to work with European or American companies. Any one that works with these reputable companies. They will surely verify his academic qualifications

Tinubu work with Exxon Mobil and reached top managerial level in the company. Yet you're doubting the authentication of his qualifications. Very illogical.

Nigeria's own should state "allegedly" since it was never confirmed! I think education level should play a very big role in leadership because if we have real intellectual knowledgeable people all these wars here and there could be avoided, but we're unfortunately lead by hooligans and agberos
