Minister Wike: Power, Process, And The Rule Of Law

Any law enforcement officer, in uniform or plain clothes, represents the President and the sovereignty of the Nigerian state. To abuse such an officer is to diminish the authority of the Republic itself.

Minister Nyesom Wike’s decision to personally enforce a directive at a disputed site was a fundamental misstep. In constitutional democracies, power operates through institutions not impulse.

Executive authority must be exercised or adjudicated through the courts, ministries, and lawful instruments of state, never through confrontation. No matter how justified a grievance, a minister cannot become an enforcer; that violates the very idea of ordered government.

In a democracy, ministers act through process, not presence. A formal communication to the Minister of Defence, whose office oversees the Armed Forces, would have sufficed. If the officers were on illegal duty, the established disciplinary systems would have addressed it.

When a minister trades words with a uniformed officer acting under orders — lawful or otherwise — it corrodes discipline and confuses hierarchy.

The officer’s duty is to obey the chain of command, not verbal instructions on a roadside; the minister’s duty is to act through lawful channels.

The Minister should apologise to the officer for using abusive language. It is not acceptable behaviour.

The conduct of the DSS protective details was equally unprofessional. Their responsibility was to extract their principal from a rancorous and potentially dangerous situation, not to escalate it.

Security officers must remember that their loyalty is to the state, not to personalities.

This episode is a cautionary tale: This episode demeans the dignity of the office of the Minister and undermines the image of disciplined governance.

Wike should issue a public apology to the Nigerian armed forces.

Its one thing for them to be protecting the looters

Its another thing for the looters to be calling you "Big Fool" to your face.

I hope Tinubu has the wisdom and wise counsel to demand a remorseful public apology from Wike for this singular act.

Wike crossed the red- line when he called a uniform commissioned officer "A Big Fool"

After the Officer had introduced himself and told him he was only taking orders.

That was when Wike crossed the line, Everything else can be forgiven.....But that statement "You are a big fool" I dont know how that Officer took it calmly.

If Tinubu doesn't make Wike apologize to that particular officer publicly. His whole government will be seen as a joke !! He has to step up as commander in Chief and demand Wike to offer a public apology. He has to be made to eat the humble pie. Everybody saw it the whole world saw it, the officers, the retired officers, the veterans, the rank and file....they all saw it. Tinubu has to move quick and move fast.

I commend the training they are giving these officers.

Wike is a tout and that's an understatement.

That rogue, in saner climes ain't gonna smell councellorship.

But then when you have someone like Tinubu as the president, of course, he has to assemble a damned crew of his likes!

Birds of a feather, they say, ....

Wike doesn't know how the military works. Neither does he know his place..

The military is not under the control of any minister talkless of fct minister. Who is he? Is he the first fct minister in Nigeria?

The military is not even under the governors control. They are not above the law but they have different rules of engagement within the law.

Both are lawless, nothing concerned the military with land issue, a civil matter just that Nigeria is Lawless.

URGENT ACTION REQUIRED AS MINISTER WIKE'S CONDUCT POSES A CLEAR THREAT TO NATIONAL SECURITY --- TUKUR BURATAI

The events of November 11, 2025, involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, demand an immediate and serious response. His public disparagement of a uniformed officer of the Nigerian Armed Forces transcends mere misconduct; it represents a palpable threat to national security and institutional integrity.

A minister’s verbal assault on a military officer in uniform is an act of profound indiscipline that strikes at the core of our nation's command and control structure. It deliberately undermines the chain of command, disrespects the authority of the Commander-in-Chief, and grievously wounds the morale of every individual who serves under the Nigerian flag. Such actions erode the very foundation of discipline upon which our national security apparatus stands.

This can not be dismissed as political theatre. It is a reckless endangerment of national order. This action by Wike is clearly an indication of undermining the federal government’s authority.

Consequently, Barrister Nyesom Wike must tender an immediate and unequivocal public apology to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Commander-in-Chief, the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria, and the specific officer whose honour was violated.

Our nation's security must come first. It is time for decisive action, not politics of military bashing. The integrity of our Armed Forces demands nothing less.

Seeing that he was a relatively senior officer acting on order, Wike should have been more civil. He would have simply contacted the Naval authorities over the matter. Insulting that officer openly was very crude. Wike should be careful especially with the coup drama still casting a shadow over the seat of power.

The president doesn't need more enemies in the military in particular.

He should be suspended. His public insult on the officer who was carrying out instructions from his superior officer was to say the least an embarrassment to the APC government whom he claims to represent.

The military follows a general rule obey the last order. Even an elected sitting governor knows he has to follow due process when dealing with the military. How much more a minister who is just an appointee of the president.

Wike was wrong in his choice of language.

The chain of command that deployed the officer in such a civil matter, was also wrong.

Wike just behaved like an illiterate tout a minister of his office should have known that there are more responsible channels he should have used to deal with situation instead of shouting and abusing the officer like a violent tout.

Apologise for what? In analysing an issue, I go to the root, instead of dancing around chasing shadows. If the foundation is faulty, nothing will stand.

This fellow is just another charlatan and attention seeker who never speaks the truth. Always looking to score cheap and useless political points.

I want to read about the punishment of the soldier and his superior on this platform, if we are being serious. Enforcing illegality and expecting to be treated with dignity. Are you kidding me?

I support the FCT Minister's actions 100%. Did that soldier have the right to be there and also prevent the Minister's access to the land? How dare he? What are we even talking about in this country? Is this a military regime? What a country.

Ikr Obosi, you've said all that needs to be said by helping to draw a line between professionalism and barbarism, but the problem I see here is power and booze intoxication, a lack of education and an oversized impression of oneself. What if Wike wakes up tomorrow to the news of his sack by the president? That's not likely to happen, but it is still a possibility because he is in an appointed position and not covered by any four year mandate.

He doesn't need to do so publicly, but he will do that to the Military high command in-house. It will not be taken lightly privately and he knows that.
