It does not necessary means the asylum claim is fake.
When asylum is sought and given, that means it was established that there was a life threatening situation with the person wherever he or she is coming from, and the threat or risk still exists. Traveling back to that same place under asylum, nullifies this claim, this is under humanitarian law of the UN.
So it's fake
Would you go back to what threatens your life? It's grounds for canceling and revoking whatever benefits you got incl citizenship

I have an uncle who's been driving in the US for over 30 years, but he's scared of driving whenever he's in Nigeria. He usually employs the services of a driver.. Even fast and furious drivers got nothing on Nigerian drivers 😂

I had to do the driving stuff because most jobs here requires you drive and a driver's license and most of them are in locations not in the line of buses and trains. They are as far as 20 to 50 miles. The city is too big.
Yea your city, a car is a necessity.

You will have to pay the sum of 220 dollars before you can get your green card. It would have been better if you paid it here in Nigeria before you travelled to reduce your wait time when you get to the US.

I opened but I discovered that all you have to do is to track your passport on the CEAC website. When it shows issued, you go to the OIS website put in your passport no. When it shows that it is ready for pick up, you book an appointment then go for pick up. At least that is what I am doing.

Okay.
I opened an account on the AVITZ page, the page the link takes you to, but it doesn’t bring up anywhere to update phone number and email, as instructed on the sheet.
I’ll keep tracking it then, thanks.

You just argued for nothing.
Others have answered you, you need to pay for the actual green card.

Since you are not new to driving, you are good to go. All you need to do is watch out for the signs and always double check with your mirrors and look over your shoulders for blind spot (this one is the most important). Trust me, they care more about these things than your actual driving skills..

In my case I hadn't even driven before in my life. I just got here August and started practicing. I only managed to practice for few weeks. I don't think if you combine all the hours I used to practice will accumulate to 6hrs. So I was still a little bit wobbling on the road as a new driver, but they didn't mind probably because they knew you become a better driver through experience..

What they care most about is the safety measures which are the road signs and mirrors checking. They don't forgive you if you make mistakes relating to these; that's why some experienced Nigerian drivers fail it when they get here because most of those signs are not on Nigerian roads. Hell, I know one who failed his the same week I did mine.

Good luck, man.

Good evening my people. I used to be a very active member of this thread 10 years ago . Was active until COVID time but lost access to my original account. Infact, I was one of the most active here then. We used to have this person from the consulate that helped with Q&A. We used to have a thread that was strictly for immigrants visa shenanigan. I don’t know if the thread still exist. I did my spouse immigrant visa 2011.

I have a small DILEMMA and need some help . I have kinda lost touch on the current policies AND updates as it pertains to immigrant visa . A lot have changed the past few years.

In 2016, my parents came to US on visiting visa. My dad was retired and my mom headmistress. My mom stayed for 1 month then and went back to Nigeria cos she couldn’t leave her school for too long. My dad stayed back and I ended up filing for AOS for him to immigrant visa. He got his green card and then got his citizenship in 2023.

After my mom came back to naija, I filed for immigrant visa for her as I’m a citizen and It was at the NVC stage in Lagos in 2019 when I stopped processing it . All I needed is to renew and update her case every year since then so the case can be active. I write or call nvc to keep the case active. I never submitted docs needed at Lagos to schedule for interview because of some personal issues . Marriage is hard oo. Story for another day . But I didn’t want her to come then. My dad was doing whatever I would have needed help with.

The thing now is, I want to go ahead and submit all the supporting documents needed in Lagos to be able to have her scheduled for interview. What is the CURRENT WAIT TIME for this process? The only thing holding for me to submit this docs is that I am waiting for her to get a new police report .

Secondly, my dad works. He’s been working for 6 years now and pays his taxes diligently . He’s a full time worker and has his citizenship. Is it BEST for him to apply for her but that means that we will start all over again from the scratch.

Any help/input will be well appreciated.
Thank you

$235 now, although your visa serves as a temporary green card for one year. Visit https://my.uscis.gov/accounts/uscis-immigrant-fee/start/overview to conclude the process of payment.

I think the immigrant visa petition for your mum has likely expired by now, since there has been no follow-up for more than a year. You will need to file a new petition. Your dad can also file a new petition for her, there is no issue with having two petitions running at the same time. Since this is an immediate-family category, the process is faster and usually takes a maximum of about two years.

I’m not sure about the delivery option , but you can send someone to pickup on your behalf.

They’d hand you a form , na that form you go fill give the person wey go pick am up for you.

I hope this helps.

I do follow up every year . Do petition is still active. Just didn’t submit documents and continue processing.

Check the bulletin for where your mums category stands now. Use her priority date to see when it might be her turn to submit documents.
This will tell you how long it will take for your current application. Also look at the category your dad would submit under if he's the one applying and look at the priority dates they are currently attending to, and compare.

Once you know the timeline to submit documents for both categories, this can help you guage which will be faster. After being documentarily qualified the rest of the process till the interview is 1 year.

In some cases, the mother-child application is better for interview cos they hardly reject it. But you have to consider your household size and current dependents if you can afford it.
I believe the spouse application is faster but might go under more scrutiny at interview.

Compare the pros and cons of both.

Hi sorry to disturb, please can i ask how long from the interview date before the tracker showed that visa was issued? I just want to have an idea of number of days.

Also if you check the OIS website, there are other pickup locations across Nigeria, not just Lagos and Abuja. So you might have one in your city, but youll have to pay for the service for them to take it to that branch.

Had my interview on the 13th of November, showed administrative processing on the 14th, showed issued on the 17th which was on Monday, then ready for pickup on the 20th of November.
