Efetobore1980:Thank you so much for this info. So that means I can run the pof for one month even if I couldn't secure the appointment day within that same month since it's only one statement I'll use for the two. |

Aside education route, which other route do you advise is quicker to come over. Kindly advise , even though I have quite knowledge in alot of these routes, I want to hear from someone or people who are ground sharing real time experiences. Thanks |

Good Evening Everyone. I did my interview August 5th, but wasn’t called to bring my passport till it was late to resume for fall. I deferred my admission to Spring, and got a new i20 for Embassy at Abuja as requested. They told me to get back to the 2 months before my resumption, which I did. They further asked me to bring my passport a week ago. They moved me from Refused to Administrative Processing after. Since then, nothing has happened. Anyone with similar experience? jenifer007:No, You get your study visa You travel You start studying. As long as you are in the US studying your i94 covers you even if the visa expires. As at current policy if you ever need to leave the US, to reenter to continue your study you must go back to your home country and renew your F1 student visa |

Hello Nairalanders, I’m a first-time applicant in the US graduate admission process, and I could really use some genuine advice from those who’ve been through it or have knowledge about US student visas (F-1). I’m applying for a PhD program with a Spring 2026 start, and things are moving quickly but tightly timed. Here’s my situation in detail: • I recently had an interview with a potential Principal Investigator (PI) at the university, and it went well. He mentioned he’d give me a final decision by November 20, 2025 (I’m about 95% confident it’ll be positive, and it should come with funding). • He also indicated that the official admission letter from the school would likely be released toward the end of November, around the 26th or 27th. • The program’s resumption date is January 12, 2026. • According to the school’s website, the I-20 form must be submitted at least one month before resumption, which means by December 12, 2025. I have no prior experience with this process, so I’m unsure about the next steps and whether the timeline is realistic. Specifically: 1 I-20 and SEVIS Process: Once I get the admission letter (assuming end of November), how quickly can I expect the school to issue the I-20? Will I need to pay the SEVIS fee right after? 2 Visa Interview Booking: If I submit the I-20 and pay the SEVIS fee promptly (say, by early December), is it possible to secure a US visa interview date in December 2025 at the US Embassy in Lagos or Abuja? I’ve read here wait times can be long. What’s the current situation for F-1 visas, and are there emergency slots for Spring intakes? 3 Overall Feasibility: With the short window (admission letter late November → visa hopefully in December → travel before Jan 12), is it realistically possible to get the visa approved and travel in time? What are the risks, and how have others handled similar tight timelines? Any success stories or pitfalls to avoid? Lastly abeg I need tips on the visa interview. Thanks in advance |

Hi all, On the tuition calculator for University of Houston, I plan to enroll in 18 credit hours. However, the system calculates the cost based on 23 hours maximum, resulting in an estimated tuition of $22,374.28 per semester. I have submitted my sponsor’s bank statement showing a balance showing equivalent to $118,642.74 I believe this amount should sufficiently cover at least one academic year, as the school instructed. Yet again, the graduate team keep emailing me that I should submit a bank statement showing a sufficient amount in U.S. dollar equivalent, without further explanation. At this point, I’m confused, no explanation nothing. Please is the funds not enough? |

IsaacIsaac:When you get i20 and pay SEVIS fee, apply for emergency appointment. You'd include these docs to support that. Yes timeline is tight. |

hunee:If your 'quicker route' are safe and legit why not try any out? Right now, you just have to be diligent and careful and follow due process |

sobastical:I asked a question. I didn't ask you to antagonise me. What do you mean by 'if your quicker route' . Be polite I have noted your feedback. |

Hello fam. Please, which university can I apply to without an application fee? I have a BSc in Industrial Chemistry from Nigeria and a Food Processing Engineering with Advanced Practice degree from the UK. I currently work in the healthcare sector and I want to pursue a Master's in Nursing. Please, can anyone recommend a university that has no application fee and offers funding to applicants? Thank you. |

Efetobore1980:Hello bosses, I hear that during interview after approval, you can tell your VO when you issue your visa? Especially with the 3 months thingy going on, that you can tell them say to issue it in one month time or so. That The person can go. If visa is approved the embassy will hold on to the applicant passport or later send an email for applicant to drop passport for visa Please how true is this ? A friend said he saw it in one of the visa groups he is in and just want to know if others are aware of this.Cc: Taal17 |

chibertha:Hi Chibertha, long time. Hope you're doing great. I'm planning on applying for a PhD program in the US and could really use your expertise and guidance. There are some aspects of the application process that are peculiar to me, and I'd greatly appreciate your insight. Would it be possible for me to send you a DM to discuss further? I'd also love for you to review my Statement of Purpose and provide feedback on my overall application package if you're available and willing. |
