FG Suspends Plannned 15% Import Duty On Petroleum products by iwaeda(op): 11:39am On Nov 13, 2025
PRESS STATEMENT

NMDPRA ADVISES AGAINST PANIC BUYING OF ANY PETROLEUM PRODUCT

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) wishes to assure the general public that there is adequate supply of petroleum products in the country, within the acceptable national sufficiency threshold during this peak demand period.

There is robust domestic supply of petroleum products (AGO, PMS, LPG etc) sourced from both local refineries and importation to ensure timely replenishment of stocks at storage depots and retail stations during this period.

The Authority wishes to use this opportunity to advise against any hoarding.panic buying or non-market reflective escalation of prices of petroleumproducts.

It should also be noted that the implementation of the I5% ad-valorem import duty on imported Premium Motor Spirit and Diesel is no longerin view.

The Authority will continue to closely monitor the supply situation and takeappropriate regulatory measures to prevent disruption of supply anddistribution of petroleum products across the country, especially during thispeak demand period.

While appreciating the continued efforts of all stakeholders in the midstreamand downstream value chain in ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted supplyand distribution, the public is hereby assured of NMDPRA's commitment toguarantee energy security.

Signed

George Ene-Ita

Director, Public Affairs Department, NMDPRA

politics is like anambra egusi soup, you need to balance the bitterness of the bitterleaf and the saucy taste of the remaining condiments. Yekini is just being a good cook.

Govt of trials and errors. Always rash with policies affecting the masses. This still confirms the daft reasoning and economic cluelessness of all the economic think tank under the Tinubu's rudderless government Useless of all useless.

Africa is not very productive cos we have more faith that God will use the next person to do things for us rather than having faith that God will use us to do things for ourselves
Re: FG Suspends Plannned 15% Import Duty On Petroleum products by Kastonkastroll(m): 1:10pm On Nov 13, 2025
Good decision... The timing was wrong but because some people have vested interest in the dangote refinery, they don't care about the suffering that tariff would push 85% of Nigerians into.

We need to have like 4 refineries working in full capacity before we ever think of banning importation of petrol and diesel!

Are the refineries working, for how long have they being working and what is the capacity? These are more valid questions that need immediate answers...

Why did you suspend it,I thought you want to strangulate Nigerians with draconian laws and policies.
Inspite of Dangote reduction of price of gas,the price of gas rather than going down, has gone above the normal #1100 it was sold before, this is so because most importers are no longer importing because of the obnoxious tax and the pressure of supply to the entire nation now lies on the door step of Dangote, which is practically impossible for him to supply the whole nation.
When demand is more than supply,it is quite natural for prices to go up. Those whom have been augmenting the supply from Dangote with importation are no longer doing so!
Anyway thankGod the president listened to the voice of reason!

You can say the government is a listening government, but the policy twists and reversals is getting too much o.
It gives the impression that advisers do not do enough deep thinking and consultations before advising the president. He too should weigh things before giving his approval. undecided

Why kill Nigerian with taxes after removing fuel subsidy
Let dangote compete rather than tax competitors to death
Re: FG Suspends Plannned 15% Import Duty On Petroleum products by Basicend: 1:26pm On Nov 13, 2025
I knew from the onset that that thing will not fly.

Some of Tinubu's executive orders were not comprehensively analysed before being signed.

Even the so called new "tax laws" from January, 2026 will still be further revised or suspended too. Mark my words.

Most Nigerians are extremely suffering currently, and the govt have not yet come to terms with the clear reality.
