The doctor patient ratio in Nigeria is about 1 in 10000. That of the US is 1 in 200 or so. The government doesn't want to employ more docs,with the present docs overworked. Now that means 1 doc for 10,000 Nigerians. This translates to more crowds and longer queues in government hospitals, especially. When I was in UPTH, we usually see about 700 patients per day in the Out patient. And we were only 3. I was a HO then thus the most junior and thus I'd see the most. Now check am. If na you how would you feel? That was in 2006. You don't even have time to explain a lot to the patient. Sometimes as a senior doctor now in 2025,I see it in their eyes that they don't understand what I'm saying but I have to keep it moving. There's a crowd outside waiting. It's that same crowd that'll complain that you are wasting a lot of time with a patient. Some even barge in to tell me that I'm wasting time or bang impatiently on the door! Imagine. And if its a lady, then you'll hear stories that you're toasting her. I ve actually had that complaint after I spent time consoling young girl that was crying after I told her she has breast cancer.
So back to this story, it's either this girl went to a government hospital or a very busy private patient. I went to Mecure Cancer Center and there were only 4 patients. The young doc took her time to explain the procedure there while smiling. Imagine if we were 200? In the UK there is a limit to the number of patients a doc can see,about 10 or so a day depending on the Trust. Why won't the doc take his time and be courteous?

As a female patient you have The right to ask for a female gynecologist, since you knew you can't do what I ask which is not a malpractice you have left initial time than wasting my time and you think you can come back to me ! You have the right to choose a female gynae doesnt mean you will get one when needed. If you want to exercise that right , you might need to wait extra hours , days or month .. depending on availability. What a patient who really needs medical attention needs is a chaperone and th gender of your doctor doesnt matter .

Funnily enough, I went for an x-tray on my waist yesterday. When I entered the lab to do it, it was a young lady that attended to me. I was shocked when she told me to remove my jeans. I thought she was joking o, but I guess that was the normal procedure for waist x-ray. While she was operating the machine on me, I jokingly asked her, "What if I wasn't putting on anything under my jeans?" She just laughed and replied, "We will get you something to wear na".

From the video, there was no talk of misconduct else she would surely have said it. Though she did say the man like other past male GNs was too dismissive.

I feel the discomfort of being seen by a man was the issue. She also mentioned the man was bringing up discussions too fast for her head to gather on.

Another place she was also not comfortable was where she was asked go pull off her pant at the lab where she went to do the test after the GN's inspection.

The whole thing is she's being sensitive about whomever is seeing her unclothedness.

A solution going forward would be to ask for a female GN and a female lab attendant if she goes there next.

Slow down and read what I wrote, keyword here is ADVANCED COUNTRIES......The only reason there are more male Ob/Gyn in the world is because in poor and extremely religious countires females are less educated or not even allowed access to higher education.
