United Nigeria Airline accepts VDM, Mr. Jollof’s apology for fighting onboard

By Chinelo Obogo

United Nigeria Airlines has said it has accepted the apologies issued by two passengers, Mr. Martins Otse also known as VeryDarkMan and Mr. Freedom Atsepoyi, known as Mr. Jollof, following the brawl between both men that occurred during the boarding of Flight UN0523 from Asaba International Airport to Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on 17 November 2025.

A brawl between Otse and Atsepoyi occurred last Monday morning at the Asaba Airport, drawing public attention and a video of the altercation quickly went viral on social media. Otse later issued a public apology following his in-flight brawl which caused delays on the United Nigeria Airlines flight. Speaking in a video posted on Instagram on Tuesday, Otse said he took “full responsibility” for the disruption and acknowledged that the incident should not have happened. He said: “A lot of people on that flight had important things to do, but because of that little irresponsibility from my end, their flight was delayed. Some people might have had medical emergencies, and some had business contracts to sign. I don’t know what that little delay would have cost them, and I really want to apologise.”

On his part, response, Atsepoyi shared a video on his Instagram page, offering a public apology to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), United Nigeria Airlines, and fellow passengers. He said: “I want to use this medium to sincerely apologise to the NCAA, United Nigeria Airlines, and the passengers that boarded the airline. I was only defending myself. You guys saw what happened, and I am very sorry if I delayed your appointment. Pardon me. This isn’t my kind of person. It will never happen again.”

Responding to their apologies, the airline released a statement on Thursday saying: “We take note of their commitments expressed via their respective social media platforms to refrain from any conduct that could compromise aviation safety, order, or decorum onboard United Nigeria Airlines flights or any other airline. We trust that this undertaking will be honored in the interest of maintaining a safe, respectful, and orderly travel environment for all passengers.

“We also appreciate the swift and coordinated intervention of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Airport Security (AVSEC), other relevant aviation agencies, the Asaba International Airport Authority, and our crew and operational teams, who managed the situation professionally and in full accordance with established safety protocols.

“As an airline, we remain aligned with the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) and all regulatory bodies in the collective effort to curb unruly passenger behaviour across the aviation sector. We urge the travelling public to continue to cooperate fully with airline personnel, security agencies, and airport authorities to safeguard the integrity and safety of air travel in Nigeria.”

Someone should point out to me a country more lawless than Nigeria...

We can't move anywhere as a country with this level of lawlessness. Especially from those who ought to be held more accountable.

SMH.

I'm so sad for my country Nigeria!

Distraction tactics completed.

Fed Gov was under a lot of pressure recently, Trump threats etc.

All they had to do was pull out the card that never fails, distract them with some drama. grin

The Nigerian rule of law: Have a Godfather and you're free. I’m certain people in high places have already made calls to apologize on their behalf. Just imagine if it was a common man in that situation—the outcome would be very different.
